Failure to abide by the rules and etiquette may result in your membership being
canceled. Please pay extra attention to Rules #8 and #13.

Dear Freecycle™ Member,

Thanks for being a part of The ever-expanding Freecycle™ Network. We're changing
the world one gift at a time! This message is sent to all subscribers upon
joining.

If you're new to the group or want a quick refresher on making the most of
freecycling, please read on! (Yes, this is a long message, but it contains
essential knowledge for all freecycle members and will answer MANY common
new-user questions, so please take the time to read through it.)

Begun on September 3, 2004, the Grey/Bruce Area Freecyle™ group is a branch of
an incredibly fast-growing international Freecycle™ movement, which began in
Tucson, AZ on May 1st, 2003 and now boasts over 1,353 offshoots from Japan to
Wichita, with more than 454,004 members and our local list continually growing
(with lots of great people in our community, as you know!) And if you tell your
friends and relatives about it, and they tell theirs...well, you get the idea.

USING THE FREECYCLE™ LIST
To post a message, simply click on "messages" at the Grey/Bruce Area Freecycle
group web site (see link below).

To post, read or reply to messages or to manage your membership settings
(including email delivery options), visit the group site (a/k/a main page):
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/greybrucefreecycle

For more information on how to freecycle™ in general and a list of other
freecycle groups, visit http://freecycle.org/ (Highly recommended!) You can also
find freecycle.org along with other related recycling-related sites by visiting
the Grey/Bruce Area main page and clicking on "links" on the left.

The following list rules have been adapted from the original freecycle™
etiquette sheet; For a refresher, read on. A certain structure definitely makes
the group run smoothly and effectively for everyone's benefit. Remember, the
success of this group depends on all of us, and that means each of us need to do
our best to keep on task and, well, be nice and patient. Good Luck, Have Fun &
Keep on Freecyclin'!

Grey/Bruce Area FREECYCLE RULES:

1 - NO POLITICS & NO SPAM - All new - member posts will be moderated.
Please do not take offense as this is our way of eliminating the spam!

2 - SUBJECT LINE and location- You want your post/ad to be noticed!
Give details or the post will not be approved. For example, please use
these phrases:

OFFER: old couch
TAKEN: old couch
WANTED: old couch
ADMIN: new idea

...and please indicate your general location...ei: 10 minutes south of
Owensound, or located in Hanover, or well you get the point.

What does ISO mean? This simply means: In Search Of

3 - WANTED POSTS - If you're looking for an item, please state the
item you are looking for and leave it at that. There is no reason to
give life details and huge explanations as to why you want the item
... a simple please and thank you is nice. Also, please limit your
'WANTED' posts to ONE PER WEEK.

4 - REPLYING TO OFFERS - Please reply directly to the person offering
the item, not to the group. Please, please... and I cannot stress this
enough - common courtesy goes a long way! A simple please and thank
you to the person offering is greatly appreciated. Again, there is no
need to give life details as to why and you should not be expected to
do so! Also, just because you are replying to the offer, it does not
mean it will automatically go to you. Also, just because you've picked
up items from the same person before, it does not mean the item is
automatically yours and does not give you the right to show up at the
person's home and expect it. With that said, please limit your replies
to offers and give other members a chance to receive items they are
looking for.

5 - OFFERING - If you are offering an item, please state the location!
It is important for people reading the 'offers' to know what area you
are in and your approximate location. The decision is yours, as to who
you give the item to. Feel free to use the 24hr rule, first come -
first served, etc... it's up to you! What is the 24hr rule? Some
members choose to wait 24hrs before making a decision on who they are
giving the item to. This gives people that are not at computers
throughout the day or only have limited computer access, to read the
posts and a chance to reply to the offers.

6 - CAN WE POST OFF-TOPIC POSTS? No! If your post is not an 'OFFER' or
a 'WANTED ITEM', it does not belong here.

7 - CAN WE USE FREECYCLE TO FIND NEW HOMES FOR PETS? Yes, keep it
legal & be lovingly careful.

8 - KEEP IT FREE - There is to be no money involved! If you're looking
to sell your items, please go to
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/GreyBruceCheapcycle/

9 - NO TRADING PLEASE

10 - PICK UP - This is to be arranged between you and the person
offering the item. If you cannot make it to the scheduled pick-up,
please have the courtesy to let the person know! It is up to the
person wanting the item to pick it up and NOT up to the person
offering the item to bring it to you unless this is your agreed arrangement. If
it's a large item you are
picking up, bring a helper with you!

11 - SAFETY - Be aware! It is up to each individual member of Freecycle™ when
arranging for pickup of the item being given away to be appropriately aware of
the potential risk of having "a stranger" come to your home to pick something
up. Freecycle as a listserv assumes no responsibility for this risk. If you, for
example, are a single woman living alone, you may want to say that you'll leave
the item on the front porch while you are not home. I instead reccommend that
you arrange for pick up or deliveries in public places such as Tim Horton's when
possible and have a "buddy" with you instead of going it alone.

12 - NO "FREECYCLING" YOURSELF OR YOUR CHILDREN - Freecycling oneself (or one's
shy friends) is, I'm afraid, not allowed. There are many fine Internet dating
sites better suited to this purpose, or you could try Craig's List or a Burning
Man mixer (just kidding). "Freecycling" your kids is not on the menu either, no
matter how crazy they make you sometimes. Try getting them involved in
after-school band practice.

13 - GOT A PROBLEM WITH ANOTHER MEMBER??? No problem! Let me know about it and
I can do the "dirty" work. This IS A RULE. "Beefs" with other members are not
allowed to be publicly expressed on the boards. Doing so will result in lost
privileges like unmoderated posts. If you are mature enough and you see a
member doing something they are not suppose to, take into consideration that
they do not really mean to offend you, and politely and privately message them
to inform them of the rules and their mistake. Please carbon copy the email to
myself at binary.speaking@... to cover you tracks and make me aware as
well.

TIPS TO ORGANIZE ALL OF THE NEW E-MAILS YOU ARE GETTING:

a) CREATE A SEPARATE E-MAIL FOLDER & AUTOMATICALLY HAVE FREECYCLE STUFF GO TO
IT. Create a separate folder in your Outlook Express & have Freecycle™ stuff
sent to it automatically with a new rule under tools/message rules/mail/

b) SET TO "DAILY DIGEST" OR "NO E-MAILS" (which means you'll just browse the
messages online). Realize that you can set your personal preferences on the main
page (under Edit My Membership in the top right corner).

IMPORTANT: THERE IS A TIME LAG FOR CHANGES: Whenever a user changes settings,
there is an overlap from the time it takes for Yahoo to process the change,
until emails in the queue waiting to go out to the users are delivered. In other
words, in the six hours it takes for Yahoo to permanently stop the emails from
coming, there are emails already set up to go out, and will continue to go out
until the queue is emptied. (Some people have reported this taking up to three
days.) So please don't email the moderators with comments like, 'I changed my
settings/unsubscribed yesterday, why am I still getting emails?' Just be
patient, and all should be well. Don't make more than one change at a time (each
additional change adds on another day of wait).
If you encounter further problems, you might want to consult the Yahoo! Groups
help pages at:
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/groups/

Just so you know, you CAN delete your own posts for any reason (for example, if
someone's taken the item you offered, or if you've received the item you wanted,
or if you posted something by mistake). Go back to your original post and bring
it into view on the screen. Right under the Messages bar, where it reads:
    Reply/Forward/View Source/Unwrap Lines/Delete

Click on 'Delete.' That should do it. (Note, though, that deleting a post won't
prevent it from showing up in the next digest for those with digest options.)

That should just about do it. Have fun and Keep on recycling my Freecycle™
Friends!

Your friendly neighborhood Freecycle™ moderator and group owner,

Rachel

a) CREATE A SEPARATE E-MAIL FOLDER & AUTOMATICALLY HAVE FREECYCLE STUFF GO TO

sent to it automatically with a new rule under tools/message rules/mail/

b) SET TO "DAILY DIGEST" OR "NO E-MAILS" (which means you'll just browse the
messages online).

*MANDATORY READING***
Failure to abide by the rules and etiquette may result in your membership
being canceled. Please pay extra attention to Rules #8 and #13.

Dear Freecycle™ Member,

Thanks for being a part of The ever-expanding Freecycle™ Network. We're
changing the world one gift at a time! This message is sent to all subscribers
upon joining.

If you're new to the group or want a quick refresher on making the most of
freecycling, please read on! (Yes, this is a long message, but it contains
essential knowledge for all freecycle members and will answer MANY common
new-user questions, so please take the time to read through it.)

Begun on September 3, 2004, the Grey/Bruce Area Freecycle™ group is a branch of
an incredibly fast-growing international Freecycle™ movement, which began in
Tucson, AZ on May 1st, 2003 and now boasts over 1,353 offshoots from Japan to
Wichita, with more than 454,004 members and our local list continually growing
(with lots of great people in our community, as you know!) And if you tell your
friends and relatives about it, and they tell theirs...well, you get the idea.

USING THE FREECYCLE™ LIST
To post a message, simply click on "messages" at the Grey/Bruce Area Freecycle
group web site (see link below).

To post, read or reply to messages or to manage your membership settings
(including email delivery options), visit the group site (a/k/a main page):
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/greybrucefreecycle

For more information on how to freecycle™ in general and a list of other
freecycle groups, visit http://freecycle.org/ (Highly recommended!) You can
also find freecycle.org/ along with other related recycling-related sites by
visiting the Grey/Bruce Area main page and clicking on "links" on the left.

Yes, keep it
legal & be lovingly careful and animal must be free.

8 - KEEP IT FREE - There is to be no money involved! If you're looking
to sell your items, please go to
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/GreyBruceCheapcycle/

9 - NO TRADING PLEASE

10 - PICK UP - This is to be arranged between you and the person
offering the item. If you cannot make it to the scheduled pick-up,
please have the courtesy to let the person know! It is up to the
person wanting the item to pick it up and NOT up to the person
offering the item to bring it to you unless this is your agreed arrangement. If
it's a large item you are picking up, bring a helper with you!

I instead recommend that
you arrange for pick up or deliveries in public places such as Tim Horton's when
possible and have a "buddy" with you instead of going it alone.

If you are mature enough and you see a member
doing something they are not suppose to, take into consideration that they do
not really mean to offend you, and politely and privately message them to inform
them of the rules and their mistake. Please carbon copy the email to myself at
binary.speaking@... to cover you tracks and make me aware as well.

TIPS TO ORGANIZE ALL OF THE NEW E-MAILS YOU ARE GETTING:

a) CREATE A SEPARATE E-MAIL FOLDER & AUTOMATICALLY HAVE FREECYCLE STUFF GO TO

sent to it automatically with a new rule under tools/message rules/mail/

b) SET TO "DAILY DIGEST" OR "NO E-MAILS" (which means you'll just browse the
messages online). Realize that you can set your personal preferences on the
main page (under Edit My Membership in the top right corner).

IMPORTANT: THERE IS A TIME LAG FOR CHANGES: Whenever a user changes settings,
there is an overlap from the time it takes for Yahoo to process the change,
until emails in the queue waiting to go out to the users are delivered. In other

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to let everyone know that what went on here the past few
days was unacceptable as most of you know.

I want to let everyone know that the offending members and those who
expressed concern have all been personally emailed and appropriate
measures have been taken.

8 members have been put on moderation and it was quite surprising to
me that the majority of the members that were involved are elite
members. Members that have been with us since 2006 or longer that
should be familiar with the rules and etiquette of our Forum.

I guess the only thing to say about this positively is this group has
been around for almost 4 years and we are almost 600 strong, have only
one moderator and this is our first real incident.

I hope this is the last. I have been on my computer since 6pm (it is
now almost midnight) trying to clear this all up. So please take a
minute to review the rules in my next post.

Please take the time now to review the following rules:

8 - KEEP IT FREE - There is to be no money involved! If you're looking
to sell your items, please go to
http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/GreyBruceCheapcycle/

13 - GOT A PROBLEM WITH ANOTHER MEMBER??? No problem! Let me know

myself at binary.speaking@... to cover you tracks and make me
aware as well. ALSO...no sarcasm please.

Well it's late. I spent long enough on here in hopes of productively
clearing things up.

personally at binary.speaking@... with FREECYCLE in the subject
line.

ATTENTION all members.

The situation that has gone on over the boards the past few days has
NOT GONE UN-NOTICED by myself over the past few days. It is being
dealt with.

Please refrain from posting any further comments about it to the

Welcome to all the newcomers.

Just a heads up...sorry for the new members that have been
experiencing spam at your old Freecycle Site. We welcome you here.

I try to keep spam down to a minimum. One of the ways we do that here
is to moderate all posts except for our elite members who have been
part of the group since the beginning.

Sometimes because of moderation it occasionally takes a few days to
get messages approved. Please be patient as messages eventually all
do get approved if they meet the criteria.

Also, we have a policy that if you have any problem with another
member, you are to come to me about it. This cuts down on any
conflict, and we have been able to successfully run our Group with
only one major incident in the past 4 years.

Thanks for joining...and please make sure to occasionally read the
Rules and Etiquette...Happy Freecycling!

Rachel,

I hope I speak for the group when I say no apologies necessary: if you
have seen the mess over on the Owen Sound Freecycle, where our
list-owner unmoderator appears to have skipped the country long time
ago, you will appreciate the vital role played by kind volunteers
such as yourself. This list only works because you make it so.

so from all of us, good to have you back online, and thank you.

I would like to apologize to everyone about all the extra mail we seem
to be getting today. After thinking maybe I was imagining things and
seeing double and triple and even more!!! I discovered that yes Yahoo
is having issues. Please do not email members complaining about their
post as it is a Yahoo problem. Many of the posts going through
including moderated ones are appearing two or even three times. It is
not just this group but several yahoo groups. I am trying to remove
them as they come through but unfortunately I am not at my desk all
day. Anyway thanks for your patience and hopefully this problem gets
resolved shortly.

I have 2 kittens that are almost 7 months old that need good homes. The male Buddy is a big suck and will not use claws when he on your lap. Loves attention and to cuddle. And Princess is his sister she love attention as well. Both are Tabby and very well behaved and litter box trained . They use scratching post. Loves to play and both have been treated with the once a month flea medication so they do not have any fleas and have never been outdoors. If interested I can email you a pictures of them . magicwoman78@...

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to remind you to POST YOUR LOCATION when posting an OFFER
or REQUEST. (EI: The town you reside in...but don't get to detailed
and give out your address. Save that information for the person you
decide gets your item.)

Doing this simple task of stating your approximate location can save
yourself and other members lots of time by determining whether or not
a member is willing to travel a certain distance to pick-up an item or
not. It also may save your inbox being flooded with unneccessary
responses.

Thanks.

Hi all.

I just wanted to let you know that I do my best to prevent
inappropriate posts or handle the inappropriate posts by directly
communicating with the poster.

Sometime they are honest mistakes...sometimes they are not. I
moderate every new member until I am happy that they understand the
rules and regulations. If a member posts something that is not geared
to the site, they are put on moderation and encouraged to reread the
rules and regulation, except if they email me back and inform me that
it was an honest mistake.

I appreciate the heads up though.

Cheers!

Hello Freecycle Members!

It's been a while so I wanted to touch base and say Hello to you all!
Please take note of the RULES & CHANGES! I'm sorry that some of the
changes may sound harsh, but due to some unfortunate experiences of
some members and complaints I've received in the last while, I feel as
owner of this group, things need to be said and changes do need to be
made. It is with great pleasure to Welcome all of our NEW members to
the Grey and Bruce Area Freecycle!! As of today, we have 214 members.
We are growing.

A huge thanks to you all for making this group what it is today, and
for spreading the word! Without you all, we wouldn't be here. You have
all taken part in helping someone in need and have taken part in
saving our landfill ... by offering one treasure at a time.

With number of people we have here, I have to say that it is running
smoothly! You all are awesome and I thank you!

It is up to the
person wanting the item to pick it up and NOT up to the person
offering the item to bring it to you. If it's a large item you are
picking up, bring a helper with you!

Again, I apologize for sounding harsh, but I'm trying to take
everyone's complaints, comments and feedback into consideration and
trying to have this group running as friendly and smoothly as
possible! Thank you to those who have personally emailed me. It's
always nice to hear from you and I really do appreciate your
feedback!! If you have an idea, any comments, questions or concerns;
please feel free to email me at any time!
Have a great day!

The Mildmay Carrick dump west of Mildmay has good junk from time to time
too, take what you want. I've got a bunch of computers from there over the
years, and assorted computer parts. My husband has found lots of good junk
there for his skidoos etc. The dump has a couple of levels and we call it
Upper Level Shopping and Lower Level Shopping!

I am directing this response to the list as it may come in handy for
others.

The Bentinck (West Grey?) landfill on Grey County Rd 3 near Hanover has a
bunch of gas bbq's. I can't say what kind of shape they are in, but there
certainly are a number to choose from.

This landfill has what we affectionately call "The Bentinck Mall". An area
where items that really should not be buried in the landfill are put aside
so that others can pick up what they might use. That old adage - one man's
junk is another (wo)man's treasure - is certainly true!

I'm not sure if this idea is unique to the Bentinck landfill or whether
others are doing the same, but it certainly may be worth checking out.

Hi, just wanted to post a shout out to all the new additions to our
Grey-Bruce freecycle. Just wanted to let all know that as far as I
know, all items still posted from beginning to end are still available
if interested.

Items you could freecycle:

-old furniture and appliances not being used and taking up space
-used clothing/outwear/shoes/sports equipment
-computer parts/accesories
-books/magazines (school textbooks, fiction/non-fiction, etc)
-bedding/towels
-scrap fabric/material/yarn
-baby toys/cloth diapers/receiving blankets
-kittens/puppies (provided they go to good homes)
-movies
-useless Christmas/Birthday/Wedding/Shower gifts...ha,ha!
-the possibilities are endless

"One man's garbage is another man's treasure."

Tips for posting:

Try to be detailed as possible. Use photographs if you have the
resources. The menu bar on the left has a convenient program attached
specifically for uploading pictures for our Freecycle Group.

Have fun and know you are being kind to our environment and other
people's pockets too. It's also a great way to make new friend too!

Good Luck and Happy Freecycling,
Now get out there and clean out your junk...or accumulate more...:)

Rachel Hommersen

In an effort to remove old posts, items taken, please use the
following examples.

SUBJECT LINE OF YOUR POSTS. Use these phrases to make it easy for
others to delete or view:

OFFER: love seat, downtown. [Offering more than 1 thing? Still keep it
in 1 e-mail, please]

TAKEN: love seat (SO THE ADMINISTRATOR CAN DELETE AFTER OR OTHERS KNOW
THE ITEM ISNT AVAILABLE ANYMORE.)

WANTED: love seat, any condition. [Please use this sparingly and don't
offer money. And above all else, don't ask for an extravagant item
like a DVD player which we'd all like to have or the strike rule will
kick in - see no. 1 above. ]

REMOVE (POST #): LETS THE ADMIN AND OTHERS KNOW THE ITEM ISNT
AVAILABLE ANYMORE OR YOU WANT IT REMOVED FROM THE LIST.

Thanks,
Your administrator,
Rachel
