I did not know that lights also are "pruned", thanks for the enlightening (though needless) comment gu.shillong !!
Geetaji, The light in front of my house was not functional since a long time now. The particular light gets left off as whenever they repair the lights, this escapes their attention as it is in a corner.
Dear Rakesh, Mohan has fixed quite a few lights and this one was definitely mentioned on our list, so either it has gone bad again or he has forgotten to fix it. Why don't you just call him and tell him. He will definitely do it. If I tell him he will say I have done it and then we are back to square one.

Congrats to the RWA team on installing the new barrier at the entrance !! This should enhance the security even further (I am hoping that it would be installed on the other gate also)
However, I would appreciate if we can revisit the idea of
dividing the road behind the security gate. This has serious safety concerns. Just to name a few:
1) As I right this mail, there are cars parked near the markings thus reducing the road size significantly. This can cause
seriously harm the pedestrians in the peak traffic hours!! 2) Whenever there is an event at the relgious center all the cars get parked on this road only. With the divider this can cause a lot of confusion.
3) In the evening with power outage, the non-visibility of divider can cause accidents, specially for speeding drivers (and yes even the speed bumps have not deterred people from this...may be we should consider one)
Lack of designated vistor parking in the colony is another challenge which convinces me that divider will not deter people from parking cars here and whats seems like a logical idea could turn into a logistical nightmare and would go against the vision of the RWA team.
Sincerly, I have no doubt about the conviction of this RWA team to make Greenwood city one of the most green, clean and safe colonies to live in and because of this conviction I know you will reconsider your decision to put a divider on the road and
address issues like parking first.
Congrats again on your mission and vision !!!

I surely agree with you to prune the tress as per the guidelines. It is not only important to have proper street lights but also to ensure the safety of the colony by pruning the trees whereever necessary on the road sides. We have trees which are hiding the light poles completely and in some cases we had to paint the light poles with great difficulty as they were not accessible for putting even a staircase to paint. It is understood that the pruning of the trees will also make the trees more healthier and thicker.
We have discussed the issue once with the Unitech Estate Manager who did express his concern regarding cutting of tress (We need to impress upon the people who have cut the trees on their own) but accepted to prune the trees wherever necessary as per the guidelines.
Greenery is indeed very important as it is life sustaining , safety and security of life of residents is far more important .
Let us prune the trees with prudence ,ensuring that light is not hindered and roads become so dark at night giving open invitation to intuders.

Good thought,Mr Kaul did look at that option, when he was doing the survey. It will be wonderful if you could do an independent survey and if it seems feasible, why not turn lamps, it will be so much easier, getting permission is not going to be easy at all. We all love greenery, that is why we are all in Greenwoods City.Let us all bring forward our suggestions and efforts and find solutions.
My suggestion would be to explore alternates instead of looking at only cutting /pruning greenery - which is almost becoming rare in gurgaon
A more eco friendly solution - would be to redirect/reposition or lower the lamp/ street light away from the tree... in these days of dust and haze pollution around greenwood city cutting/chopping greenery is not necessarily an ideal solution.... an alternate solution would also avoid the penal consequences I guess.....
I am not getting into a debate on this just request everyone to think about other options too....

Hi
I would like to bring to the attention of the community that there are various trees in our block, which have grown to more than 20' ht & are obstructing the streetlights - rendering the lights useless.
I think the trees need to be pruned to a level of around 10-12 ft in order for them to serve their purpose as well as not be a hinderance to the dissipation of the lights.
Some lights are also on the blink & beed to be looked into, the corner light in front of D-12 & D-15 being a case in point.

Subject: [greenwoodscity] Pruning of trees

It is nothing short of a BIG ACHIEVEMENT, that the trees now look pruned & not a jungle. If one may notice the light dissipation from the street lamps is also far more effective.
Kudos to all who took the initiative & made the effort in making this happen.
The streetlights next ? I certainly hope so, as the one in front of my house is on the blink for a LONG time.
We seem to be moving in the right direction, so let us keep the spirit up & the work happening !!!!
1) As I right this mail, there are cars parked near the markings
thus reducing the road size significantly.

I fully agree with Mr. Bhatia. everybody loves greenery but it should not stop the light. our colny looks like ghost town in the night becoz of these tall trees and heavy branches which can fall anytime. you can see the same in front our line from D-37 to D-43.
Haven't we debated enough regarding pruning of trees?
SAFETY AND SECURITY OF RESIDENTS IS FAR MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING ELSE. I WOULD LIKE TO GO ON RECORD THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF TREES IN RASHTRAPATI BHAWAN HAVE BEEN PRUNED. I HAVE PERSONALLY SEEN IT AS I SPENT NEARLY HALF A DAY AT RASHTRAPATI BHAWAN ON 29 AUG 09. NO ONE IS BEING ARRESTED FOR THIS.
I WOULD ONCE AGAIN REQUEST THAT LET US PRUNE WITH PRUDENCE. LET US STOP DEBATING BEYOND A POINT. VIEWS OF TREE LOVERS ARE MOST WELCOME AND EQUALLY RESPECTED; HOWEVER PLEASE ENSURE SAFETY AND SECURITY BY PRUNING TREES TO MAKE OUR STREETS SAFE AT NIGHT. IF REQUIRED I AM PREPARED TO TAKE THE RESPONSIBILITY.
PRUNING SHOULD NOT MEAN CUTTING BIG BRANCHES NOR DOES IT MEAN TO MASSACARE ANY TREE. KINDLY GET ON TO THE ACTION, AS WE HAVE DEBATED ENOUGH.

Dear All,
Now the street lights are on the blink, earlier it was just the overgrown trees !!
A crucial one at the turn in front of D-12 is out of order as is the one in front of my house D-13.
Let's be sensible about it and not keep arguing with each other. I can now see why Unitech has a good laugh at us. Rakesh is very right, some of the branches are so low, they come in your face while walking. Also as Ramesh is saying the branches and trees are becoming weak with their own weight. One storm and we see so many trees on the ground. So many branches have been falling on cars. On Friday I had a huge branch falling on me in gajender's lane, his neighbours are witness. I had a narrow escape but what if it had fallen on a child. So let's do what is good for all.And please, NO ONE WANTS TO CUT TREES.
I think from the last few posts it seems there is a mis-understanding on the word pruning..... who so ever may be in doubt may kindly look at the tree in front of my house D-13. I can assure you all your querries AND worries will be put to rest.
Time & again I have said that there is no motivation to "cut trees" nor any intention. The whole dialouge stems from the fact that our trees are in a state of neglect which is what needs to be corrected. I think it is only fair to do so & should not raise such a hue & cry.
1) As I right this mail, there are cars parked near the markings
thus reducing the road size significantly.

Amit Sondhi

Now that is nice to hear !! A Diwali Gift ?!!! Kudos for the effort put in by all concerned. While at it - it'd be nice if the street lights can also be restored.
We met Mohan Singh on 16th for Security concerns. We raised the pruning issue with him and reminded him that he was doing it in South City. He has agreed to do it provided one the residents supervises it. Mr Kaul had earlier offered to help us in this regard. I will request him again and I think we will begin.

Dear All,
Now the street lights are on the blink, earlier it was just the overgrown trees !!
NOBODY WANTS TO CUT TREES !!

My suggestion would be to explore alternates instead of looking at only cutting /pruning greenery - which is almost becoming rare in gurgaon A more eco friendly solution - would be to redirect/reposition or lower the lamp/ street light away from the tree... in these days of dust and haze pollution around greenwood city cutting/chopping greenery is not necessarily an ideal solution.... an alternate solution would also avoid the penal consequences I guess.....

Bhatia Sahib, you are right- enough of discussions. We should get down to doing some work!

South City Residents do not go and complain to police and get notices issued against their own fellow residents.
I will complain to Mohan Singh for the lights mentioned!!

Dear All,
Now the street lights are on the blink, earlier it was just the overgrown trees !!
NOBODY WANTS TO CUT TREES !!

I am glad you raised this on this platform. It would be very insensitive for any one of us to call it spam.I think as the fortunate ones we should do whatever we can as individuals or as a group. We have many women in our colony who have chosen to be at home for their kids even though they are professionally qualified and have several times expressed their desire to do something more than what they are doing. We could ask for volunteers who could spare 2-6 hours a week and get involved in giving computer classes, science and math teaching, cooking classes, dance and singing classes( some of our senoir residents have the expertise to do that very well). The biggest gift is of time and involvement. Once you have a bigger group involved they will autonatically pull in money, computers, books and other resources. I suggest you ask for volunteers in a circular to all and have a Greenwoods City group working with you.Maybe the libraries in Gurgaon will happen much quicker than what you had planned!

I am associated with a small charitable trust (NGO) which sets up libraries in poor areas and encourage children to learn through reading. The trust is called Children’s Library Trust and it also has programs to teach use of computers, teaches classical dance to girls, has a program to improve understanding of science and maths, educational and fun trips, cultural programs and scholarships.
I am attaching a slightly dated brochure for you to see what the trust is all about (new one is under development).
From Greenwoods, Mrs Geeta Sachdeva has been very kind to support our cause by donating two rather heavy duty invertors to handle our computer rooms.
We are working on the possibility to start at least 2 libraries by end of 2010 in Gurgaon also.
We always need help in terms of time, money contacts, ideas, program development and running. Anyone of you who can be of help and would like to know more about what we are doing can drop in a line at rajeev@fables.in or call me at 9811038446. We need help to grow the program and would be very thankful for any relevant help.

We have been recieving messages from all residents appreciating the landscaping at the gate. We thank all for the encouragement! It was done after numerous debates and discussions, the Diwali festival pushed us into making decisions. We need to really thank Sandhya Gupta, Kanchan Sharma, Meera Aggarwal, Ashok Gupta and Ramesh Saproo to make it happen.
As far as the divider on the other side , we all realised after seeing the drawing that the first plan would have been disastrous. The objective primarily is to discourage parking of cars close to the entrance, secondly to have a deterrant for vehicles speeding out, last but not the least some more green inside the colony. So the contractor is now going to make another drawing which will as per what all are suggesting- to have a narrow patch (3-4 ft) and running for about 25 ft. We can place pots and experiment but it just means more cost. I think the drawing will give us an idea and we can all then take a call by consensus!!

However, I also would second your proposal to request a rethink of the 20-30 foot division earmarked in the middle of the main road. I'm no expert in matters of roads, etc. However, is it normal to narrow a road to plant a tree or make a green patch or something in the middle- I thought it usually was the other way round. Normally dividers, traffic islands or corners, wherever they have to be put to control traffic are further spruced up and beautified. However, this is a live road and the most busy one at that inside this side of Greenwoods. It is perhaps hard to imagine whether the pros of having a bit of incremental greenery would or would not outweigh the cons of shortening the width of the road.
Maybe, as a trial, we can put some planters inside the earmarked periphery and see whether it is a workable thing or not- if it looks so great without interfering with the traffic, we can at some future date go ahead with the proposed plan; if not, we can remove the planters without having done any permanent damage.

NOBODY WANTS TO CUT TREES !!

I am not getting into a debate on this just request everyone to think about other options too....

Subject: [greenwoodscity] Pruning of trees
Hi

MY REGARDS TO ALL FELLOW RESIDENTS AND WISHING YOU HAPPY DIWALI.

Time & again I have said that there is no motivation to "cut trees" nor any intention. The whole dialouge stems from the fact that our trees are in a state of neglect which is what needs to be corrected. I think it is only fair to do so & should not raise such a hue & cry. NOBODY WANTS TO CUT TREES !!

I am not getting into a debate on this just request everyone to think about other options too....

While the entire AC 77 Gurgaon (100% urban AC) lies within Municipal Corporation Gurgaon, AC 76 Badshahpur (partially urban AC) lies only partially within Municipal Corporation Gurgaon as the attached comparative map clearly shows.
Hence a door to door elector survey separately done under directions of SEC Haryana is a necessity. Citizens of Gurgaon insist on this exercise to be undertaken.
There is utter confusion among electors about which constituency they belong to - Gurgaon or Badshahpur?
There has been no information on this from the Gurgaon district administration - not even when Gurgaon was divided into two constituencies, neither when the elections were announced, nor now when elections are just 5 days away. There has been no public announcements, no advertisements, no leaflets, no information to the RWAs....in short, no visible attempts to educate electors about the electoral process.
Please see attached some documents which will inform you about:
Which constituency your locality falls under. What is your polling booth number and name. (see PDF files 76 and 77 electoral roll and 76 &77 supplementary roll files)
Who all are the final contenders in your constituency, their names, party-affiliation, etc. (see DOC file Gurgaon constituency candidate information)
And the contact numbers of Returning Officers, hotline number, etc from your constituency so that u can call and ask your questions directly as an empowered citizen. (see DOC file Gurgaon constituency candidate information)
Please forward this mail to everyone you know in Gurgaon so that all citizens can feel educated and empowered. RWA members are requested to help their resident member voters in this task.
Do write back if you have concerns. Mission Gurgaon Development members will help all they can to make you exercise your franchise successfully.
Best wishes and happy voting on October 13. Let the best candidate win!

I am told, that there is a big excercise going on in South City 1 for pruning & trimming trees. Was wondering - it is the same colonizer after all !!
Just FYI

I think from the last few posts it seems there is a mis-understanding on the word pruning.....who so ever may be in doubt may kindly look at the tree in front of my house D-13.
NOBODY WANTS TO CUT TREES !!
Hope this helps.

Dear All
I surely agree with you to prune the tress as per the guidelines.

I am not getting into a debate on this just request everyone to think about other options too....

Subject: [greenwoodscity] Pruning of trees

Mr. Sehgal,
If all the people in your lane do not want pruning (trimming) done, that seems perfectly well. I do not see why you or anyone for that matter should be forced to accept pruning of trees if you don't want it.

Dear Geetaji/ Rakeshji,
I spoke about this tree issue with all residents of our lane, i.e. D1-D7 and we have unanimously reached a decision regarding the pruning (later renamed as trimming) of trees, which we, because of circumstances and facts remnant from the last similar exercise undertaken, translate as cutting of trees... Gaganji (D3), who is the also the D block representative, would convey our collective decision to you. We request you to kindly respect our unequivocal decision regarding the trees in our lane (D1-D7) as per same.
