The Greenleaf Trail is a multi use non-motorized trail being planned in the Town of Islip on Long Island NY.
Do you like to hike or bike?
Would you like to help people to burn more calories & less gasoline?
If yes is the answer to any of those questions we need your help!
A portion of the Greenleaf Trail is currently paved and is on a LIPA right of way. It runs parallel to Nicohls Rd and runs north and south of Patchogue/Holbrook Rd. This section will be improved and when finished it will give easy access to the Ronkonkoma Train Station and Macarther airport as well as local shopping centers and pocket parks along the way. In addition, there will be improvements made to the existing natural paths within the adjoining green spaces. It will be a car-free way to travel within the community away from the dangers of the roadways with only a few main street crossings.
This will be similar to the Bethpage State Parkway paved bike path and Wantagh State Parkway paved bike path that Nassau County residents have enjoyed for years. These paths have encouraged many families to engage in a positive recreational activity. Having more people out and about, increases the "eyes and ears" on the paths. This will encourage appropriate use of our outdoor spaces and reduce any negative use.
Having a better maintained path will increase the nearby home values and reduce the time it takes to sell a home because people want to live near a recreational pathway that can also be used as a safe bicycle path to run errands without the use and expense of gasoline.
We need your help to make it happen. Letters & E Mails to the Town of Islip & Suffolk County will be needed to let them know you want this to happen.
Please contact us and let us know that your interested in helping the Greenleaf trail project.
