This e-mail list has been established as a free service to people who live or work in Greenbelt, Maryland. With 1,000+ subscribers, it is far and away the largest listserv in Greenbelt focused broadly on the community.
While moderated, this list is essentially open (most anyone connected to Greenbelt may join and post to the list from a subscribed e-mail account). All topics pertaining specifically to Greenbelt are welcome. Topics such as local politics, public safety, local history, community events, architecture, gardening or even garage sales, for example. The key is that it must be local and Greenbelt. Please avoid national and international issues, for example, unless they have a very specific and particular connection to Greenbelt (like a planned local meeting on issue X).
Locally-oriented commercial postings are welcome, provided the originating business is in Greenbelt, and recurrent postings are reasonably *in*frequent.
Since 'Greenbelters' is the primary e-mail forum for Greenbelt, and includes members with many different attitudes, values and backgrounds, please work hard to keep it a positive and welcoming place. That said, independent or minority views are typically welcome here, and spirited, courteous dissent of all kinds is often celebrated.
All posts MUST have your *full* name in the text block of your posted message or it will be returned to sender. Other list rules and etiquette will be automatically sent to you by separate e-mail. ***Please read them through once to avoid misunderstandings or returned messages.***
Of course, messages sent to this list are the sole responsibility of the person sending them (don't assume accuracy). And while the City of Greenbelt infrequently uses e-mail to broadcast information, we hope they--and YOU--will take advantage of this resource.
One marvelous irony of the ethereal Internet is that it can enhance physical, and not just virtual, communities. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to join.
