Just wanted to post a big THANK YOU on behalf of P.U.R.R. West Virginia, Inc., and the PURR Babies (who can't type yet), for all the amazing support the area has shown us as we become Grafton's newest non-profit organization. We have been shown such kindness and support from so very many people, our hearts are just full of joy and hope for 2009.
P.U.R.R. WV Inc. is a non-profit cat and kitten rescue, our mission is best spelled out by our name: People United for Rescue and Rehabilitation. You can read more about our mission and our rescue at www.lornacats.com and also visit our Petfinder website www.petfinder.com/shelters/wv141.html . P.U.R.R. may be a new organization, but we are not new to rescue! I have been rescuing for over 10 years with different organizations and on my own. The very new and exciting organization is celebrating a new hope for changing the reality of felines in our area for the better - one kitty at a time.
Please help us if you can and spread us around to others who can help us help the PURR babies!
Special thanks to the Mountain Statesman who has been so generous with their ad space and support! Thank you. Thank's to the City ofGrafton too~ and everyone who has shown such great support!

Dear Friends and Family, The forwarded message below is from my dear friend, Lorna Vincent-Venter. For those of you not living in Grafton or are not familiar with her, Lorna operates a Cat Rescue in Taylor Co. and has saved literally hundreds of cats and found them loving homes. The challenge below will help our local Humane Society, which is struggling financially, and helps Lorna with her endeavors. All that is required is a click of your mouse each day for the remainder of the challenge in December. I vote each morning as I check my emails. You can vote once daily for your favorite shelter. Won't you please help these critters who need so desperately and if there are friends in your email address book who also love animals, please forward this to them. Thanks to all for your
time.

Hi Friends!.
Our Shelter is falling behind! Randolph County took number one today so lets VOTE please, everyday until December 14. The Taylor County Shelter will win a state prize of $1000. if we remain number one! I know we can do this, so please pass it along to all your friends, family, associates, just everyone who can vote. We could double or triple this prize if we all sent the TCHS a $5.00 donation! Yep that is how many people have been getting this mail and hopefully voting!

Taylor Made -Country Music Superstars- takes downtown Grafton for a
ride!
On Saturday October 25 Grafton will rock to the sounds of Taylor
Made, a country chart-climbing band whose roots extend to a back
porch here in Taylor County.
What: A Good Time with some Great Music!
When: 3:00pm Saturday October 25
Where: Main Street in downtown Grafton - the City of Grafton property
beside The Grafton 123 House of Coffee.
How Much: FREE.
Yes, really, I said FREE. The local trio -Brian Duckworth, Wendy
Williams, & Greg Duckworth- are pleased to have an opportunity to
bring their talent back to the community where it all began. There
are, however, costs associated with the sound, stage, additional
musicians, & transportation. Several local businesses have come
together to share expenses, so donations will be accepted.
Why: Taylor County is proud of Taylor Made's success!
This is the perfect opportunity to showcase our hometown celebrities,
the great strides that downtown Grafton has made recently (the new
sidewalks and streetlamps look great, don't they?), and the growth of
Taylor County!
Thanks for coming out to this Homecoming Celebration!
See you Saturday!
If I understand correctly, Governor Manchin will be in Grafton for
this event.

Imagine a collection of vintage photographs from West Virginia's most
important musicians. Add a listening station with songs from many of
those artists and you will have an idea of what to expect when you
visit the WV Music Hall of Fame's "Music of the Coalfields" exhibit
at the Grafton B&O Railroad Heritage Center.
With many photos dating back to the early-1900s, there are rare
photos of Maceo Pinkard, who penned "Sweet Georgia Brown," regional
promoter Ralph Weinberg (pictured with boxer Jack Dempsey) and a
striking photo of Duke Ellington performing to a packed hall in
Bluefield in the 1950s. Other photos feature the Ink Spots (which
included Bluefield pianist Bobby Benson), a young, fiddling Senator
Robert C. Byrd, Hazel Dickens, Aunt Jennie Wilson and Boone County
psychobilly pioneer, Hasil Adkins.
From classical composer George Crumb to the renowned Appalachian
singer Hazel Dickens and country star Brad Paisley - and with
musicians like Winston Walls, the Lilly Brothers, Little Jimmie
Dickens and Hasil Adkins in between - West Virginians have made
significant and lasting contributions to the rich and varied music of
America.
The mission of the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame is to document
and preserve those contributions and, at the same time, remind and
educate people in West Virginia and beyond its borders of these
important artists.
The exhibit will be on display at the Grafton B&O Railroad Heritage
Center from October 2nd through November 15th. The Center's hours of
operation are Thursday and Friday 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

I began geocaching this Spring. For those of you not familiar with it, it is like a treasure hunt using a GPS. You can find out more about it at www.geocaching.com
After finding the hidden cache, you sign a log in the cache and on www.geocaching.com. While doing this, I noticed that some people were specifically going to a location to find a number of caches in that area. So, I decided to add some caches in the Grafton area to see if we could get some folks visiting downtown and around who wouldn't normally come to town. I have 3 downtown, one in the 4-corners area and just published 1 at Valley Falls and 1 at Tygart Lake. The 4 in Grafton have had over a dozen people visiting them in the past 2 weeks - not a huge number, but a few extras! One person even commented on how nice the music downtown was!!
Maybe some of you would like to find out more about it and put out some caches of your own. The more we have, the more people will come to visit!

The purpose is to buy and resell CDs, DVDs, video games, and hopefully some good ol' VINYL records.
All types of music can be found at Grafton WV Disk Exchange--anything from Acid Rock to Zydeco (as soon as I can find it :-) ) At the moment, the
majority of music I have is Rock (including all subgenres), R&B, Rap (including all subgenres), Country, Spiritual, Heavy Metal (including all subgenres), and Classical (including Chamber, Opera, etc.).
If anybody knows any local musical artists that are looking for a place to sell their material--this IS the place to do it. I would love to support local artists and in time, I'm sure that word-of-mouth will make that happen. In the meantime, there's a lot of work getting a new business off the ground, so to it I must return.
