Hello! This is Grisel, and I am a writer and professor who has brought her own brand of crazy to Chicago (born/raised), New York (met my Vincent), and now BIG TEXAS! Yep - yeehaw - I got accepted to the Ph.D. in English program at the University of Texas at San Antonio, so ol' girl's gonna be legit, y'all! (Yes, even English profs can use colorful language.) Grisel's Poets and Writers began seven years ago when I jumped on the poetry scene and quickly became the creator and host of three groundbreaking poetry/music/art events in Manhattan. I have performed my own work throughout the United States, and my work has been published in various literary magazines, including Chicago's "After Hours." I wrote and produced "THE ROOM," a multicultural, all-female play, that was part of the 2004 Urban Pop Festival, at Common Basis Theater, on 8th Ave. and 46th St. in NYC. In 2005, I directed "The Teacher's Lounge," in the Songs From Coconut Hill Festival on Manhattan's Lower East Side. My current projects include a compilation of stories, ideas and opinions on the black Latino experience in the United States, and publishing short stories and memoirs of life in Chicago. The NEW incarnation of GPWriters will contain info. about my discoveries down here - San Antonio, Austin and Houston have a lot going on and I'm gonna be a part of it, damn it! I'll also continue to forward links to my underground research blog, Wright to Right, and links to any articles I might publish or cool Ph.D. research discoveries I think you might get a kick out of. Both CREATIVE and FACT-BASED writing is covered here, along with fun artistic endeavors you may want to participate in. Expect an email 2-4 times a month. Questions? I'm at dsegotism@yahoo.com. Enjoy!
