Hi I just bought a GP68 and got the manuals. It says to remove R417
for programming. So where is R417? I opened up the unit and it is
not obvious where R417 is located. It does not match the layout in the
manual. Can someone help me?
Much appreciated.

Just received my Radio today. I can not get it to go into Channel
Display Mode. It will on stay in Freq display mode. I was looking for
jumper R417 and can not find it, even by using the posted schematic.
Any help would be appreciated. I already did a factory reset and still
no luck. Thanks
If I recall correctly there is a very thin flat multi conductor Interconnect
cable that goes from the controller board to the rf board. This cable may not
have been seated into the receptacle on the board. I have attached a jpg from
the service manual into an email below all of the text that will be sent to your
private email. Pardon the quality but it was a quickie taken with my cell fone.
But you will see that this flat ribbon cable is on the left side and just might
be the culprit.
Be Careful and good luck
Garth

Subject: [gp68] screen problems
I just recieved my GP-68 and now the screen will pause. I can push on
the left side of the radio and everything will go back to normal. But
when I take the pressure off of it, it will pause again. The radio
works perfect, just the screen is messing up. If anyone can help me
write back.
Thanks

Please help I believe my programming problem is because the jumper has
not been removed, I have the black and white diagram picture that
shows a few componets near R417 but I don't know where to find it on
the board, or which board for that matter, the only place I have not
been is under a metal box on the board that is mounted to the back
cover (I don't know how to remove it and don't want to break
anything). And I have not looked on the board facing the
speaker,(again its hard to remove). Any help would be great. Thanks

yup contact a local pmr dealer(yellow pages under two way radio)they
will point you in the right direction, you may be able to lease a
repeater on a day to day contact, this would more than likely be the
cheapest option, you may be able to pick one up secondhand if you want
to buy one be it must be still currect spec to get a licence for
it,owe you would need a licence also.
but at the end of the day o dont know if you would get a licence for
a mobile repeater type system in a car, though i may be wrong and
ofcom may have channels set aside for this type of set up.
some pmr radio dealersrun there own CBS repeater systems, this is a
uhf or vhf repeater with a number of local users paying for time on
the repeater for a flat fee every month, you would get your own ctcss
code, this means you would only here traffic for your group of users
and not joe bloggs skip hire, but be ware, these repeater can have to
many users on them, this makes getting air time a pain at peak
times, askboutoverage, and can you use your own set or do you have to
rent from the dealer.
get the best deal you can that suits you and your pocket

dear friend,
In GP68 hold the * button for more than a minute will automatically
locks the station tuned or the frequency you have set.

Hey,
Have you received any responses yet? I'd hate to have you flooded with
responses or something. If you havent, I'd be happy to help you out.
Thanks,

Hi Folks,
I'm a new owner of a GP68 I got from eBay, and while it works great so far, I
can't seem to be
able to enter the Channel mode. The manual says to click the Mode/Backspace key,
but
hitting that does nothing.
If my radio is one of the "95% new" ones that is partially disabled, is that a
common
symptom?
Many thanks,

I am a new user to the GP-68 and was wondering how to program the
unit. Do I just need to input the frequency that I want to transmit on
or do I need more than that? please respond

the info. What voltage and milliamps was the x-former rated at?
Also where did you hook the 2wires to? This had a center tap x-former
in it, and when I tried it on 120 volts it had 17 volts on each leg.
So it stood to reason the transformer should be 33 volts CT. Thanks
for the quick reply. It's terrible to have a new radio and no way to
charge the battery.
If I remember correctly, the transformer in the 220v unit has a center-tapped output, connected to two diodes for rectification. By replacing the two diodes with a bridge rectifier, disconnecting the center-tap (now no connection), placing the negative output of the bridge to where the center-tap was, and connecting the positive output of the bridge to where the two diodes originally met, and the transformer leads that once went to the diodes to the AC inputs of the bridge, you should double the output of the supply, and make it work on 110 instead of 220.
Hi, bought a GP68 and need to know how to adapt the 220 volt charger to U.S. 120 volt. Or does anyone know where I can get the charger cup to adapt the gp68 battery to go into a sp50 charger? Thanks.
I took the internal workings out of my GP68 charge and
wired in an universal charger which does R/C batteries of
the same voltages. I works great with the large batteries
I use.

You are in one of the programming modes. You should be able to get
back to the regular mode just by turning the unit off, then turning it
back on again.
in that mode you can edit your scan list, dtmf features, time out
timer, etc.
Hope it helps!

I don't know how I have arrived here, I think I did a long keypress on
the MEM button (changing antenna) and then switched off when switched
back on I get r1.01 and then Scnl.st. Please can anybody tell me how to
get back to normal function?
Many thanks to anyone who can assist, Carl
Hi,
I recently just purchased a GP68 myself, and I've ran into a few
problems that hopefully someone might be able to answer. First off,
the ceramic cover on one of the crystals (labeled N 7.9488 08.) has
popped off, and it seems like the crystal is fried. I'm not getting
any connectivity across the leads.
Also, when I plug in a external mic/speaker system, I'm not getting
any audio output. I can still transmit, and if I don't use the
external system, the built in speaker works fine. I just can't seem to
get any audio output via the jack.
If anyone has any info, it'd be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ray
thanks all,
I found batery case/try the contents 6 batery, costing 125.000 rupiah
or around 14 dollar..

Hi, No Investment , No Buying , No Online Time Wasting
MGinger.com pays you to read ads on your cellophane! These ads are only about your interests. Not only that, you get to decide when you want these ads. Based on my calculations I can easily make enough money to free up my cell phone bill. Check it out...
1. While in Channel Display Mode, select the channel to program.
2. Press the X key to enter Frequency Display Mode.
3. ENTER FREQUENCY: Use the DTMF keypad. The LCD display will reflect your keystrokes.
NOTE: You only have about five seconds between key presses, or the unit will revert to the previously-stored information.
If your frequency won't "take,"you might need to change the Frequency Step Size. You may choose between 5, 10, 12.5, 20, or 25KHz. To change, press and hold the LOW C key for about three seconds - until the current step size is displayed. Use the Channel Selector knob to choose your desired step size. Then press the ENTER button to store it.
Or are you wanting to go below 136.00 or above 174.00 or the low/high if it is a UHF model.
If you are looking to go above or below, I would say you are out of luck. There has been rumor for years that it can be done. But I have never heard of anyone coming forward with a step by step on how to do it. I would have to say in general there is almost always a way to push something a bit either way. But how to do it, and most importantly can it be accomplished by the average Joe (myself included there) is a whole different ballgame. If you have every opened up a 68, I am sure you would agree it is not for the faint hearted, 20/15 vision and rock steady hands of a brain surgeon would be a must for sure. Possibly another member will show me I am wrong. I for one would like to be able to listen a bit lower than 136.0 That way I would not have to carry the Vertex/Standard VXA-700 around all the time.
