These are the rules that are to be followed by every member of Gour Govinda
Katha, and are sent to all members every month as a reminder.
1 - No use of profanity in any form. Please maintain Vaishnava etiquette at all
times. A polite and respectful tone is requested of all participants, even when
engaged in controversial discussions.
2 - No personal attacks on other members will be tolerated. Proper Vaishnava
etiquette should be observed at all times. Maintain a respectful stance towards
all individuals, even when disagreeing with them. Members are also free to
disagree politely with each others' ideas, but please do not resort to a tone or
remarks which come across as condescending, sarcastic, threatening, or blatantly
insulting.
3 - It is acceptable to discuss one's understanding of the teachings of guru,
sadhu, and shastra so long as primary sources are quoted. One need not be
correct in his understanding of the above sources to post, and the moderator
does not enforce philosophical correctness nor claim to be qualified enough to
do so. Nevertheless, one must at least be sincere in his effort to represent the
sources which he alludes to, rather than deliberately ignoring what they
actually say.
4 - Sincere, even controversial discussions are acceptable, but stubborn
argumentativeness is not. Examples of the latter include, but are not limited
to: (4.1) Strawman arguments, or in other words, criticizing an opinion
attributed to an opponent even when it is obvious that he/she never wrote such
an opinion, (4.2) Evasive arguments, or in other words, deliberately ignoring
answers or evidence offered in previous postings and rehashing an argument as if
it had never been answered, and (4.3) repeatedly ignoring requests to
substantiate opinions with evidence. These kinds of arguments merely lengthen
the daily list mailings and waste the time of those who participate.
5 - When discussing the viewpoints of other parties, please avoid referring to
them by name if you cannot quote directly from their writings. If you wish to
refer to an opposing party by name, please give explicit references to books,
web sites, etc in which the objectionable material which is to be debated can be
found. This is meant to discourage hearsay and speculation about individuals,
which can lead to Vaishnava aparaadha.
6 - When replying to a message, please use quoted text sparingly. Replies with
excessive amounts of quoted text that do not clearly need to be present will be
rejected.
7 - The subject line of a message must always reflect its content. In
particular, list members who reply to the digest form of the list should delete
the default subject line (i.e. "Re: Digest # xxx") and replace it with a more
appropriate subject line. Postings with "Re: Digest #" in the subject line will
not be accepted. This is intended to make it easier for members to search
archives by subject line.
8 - Fanatical behavior is strictly prohibited. This especially includes attempts
by list members, whether in public or private, to suppress questions and doubts
or in any other way to discourage polite discussion. At no time will any member
be made to feel ashamed for politely expressing doubts.
9 - Postings of a political nature, especially those concerned with the
management of specific spiritual organizations, are inappropriate for posting on
this list. Under no circumstances is the list to be used to criticize spiritual
organizations or their management. It may be that in some cases, there is a fine
line between discussing differences in philosophy and discussing politics of
different religious institutions. List members are asked to use common sense,
and to consult the moderator for help when such matters arise. Members who wish
to discuss controversial subjects related to Gour Govinda Swami are urged to
visit and join http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gourgovindaissues/
10 - Use of e-mail addresses appearing on Gour Govinda Katha for the purpose of
spam-mail or other mailing lists is strictly prohibited, unless the members
whose e-mail addresses are used give their permission in advance. Those who
violate this rule will be promptly banned from the list.
11 - Advertisements of all kinds are strictly prohibited from the Gour Govinda
Katha list. This includes web sites, classes, and commercial items. The
Yahoo!Groups administration appends advertisements to each posting, but this is
a consequence of utilizing this free service. It is neither sanctioned nor
desired, and it should not be taken as justification for further postings of the
same nature.
12 - All complaints, questions, moderation appeals, and other material not
intended for public posting should be submitted to the moderator at:
gourgovindakatha-owner@yahoogroups.com
Please note that this is not an invitation for flaming against the moderator.
Constructive criticism, polite disagreement/appeals about moderation, or
questions/concerns about the rules or appropriateness of questionable postings
are welcome. Such concerns should not be posted to the list, and they will be
rejected if they are.
As per the admittance policy, this forum is PRIMARILY meant to serve as a
discussion room for devotees. People who are known to be offensive or in any way
disruptive will be on a careful watch. Should such a person cause considerable
upset, the moderator may have to make a decision regarding that person's status
as a group member. As an alternative, a vote may be taken among the members to
decide if that person should retain their membership status. The moderator's
decision is final.
Following in the footsteps of dharma, posters will be given THREE chances. On
the first occasion of misbehaving, the poster will receive a private warning.
The second occasion warrants a public warning, and the third occasion warrants a
senior decision to delete an offender's account.
If the offense is grave and serious, the offender's account may be deleted
automatically without consultation with members.
Please note that Moderator reserves the right to change these rules at any time.
I hope this outlines things clearly.

Moderator, Gour Govinda Katha
Sri Krishna Kathamrita Bindu, the free e-magazine from ISKCON Gopaljiu
Publications, has just entered its ninth year of circulation, and has reached
200 issues distributed to its ever-growing list of subscribers.
Started in 2001 as a humble attempt to serve Srila Prabhupada and the preachers
of the mission of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Sri Krishna Kathamrita Bindu is
especially meant for devotees who were interested in going deep into the
tradition and literature of Gaudiya Vaishnavism. Our policy from the beginning
has been to simply focus on krishna-katha - no politics, exposes, revolutions,
or institutional bashing or promotion. Tad-vag-visargo janatagha-viplavo - our
conviction is that krishna-katha and krishna-nama automatically changes
everything for the better. They are the ultimate solutions to all problems in
this world. In the words of Srila Saraswati Thakur, "The person who determines
that there is scope for reform of the world himself stands in need of reform.
... As soon as Krishna enters the listening ear, he clears up the vision of the
listener so that he no longer has any ambition of ever acting the part of a
reformer of any other person, because he finds that nobody is left without the
very highest guidance. It is therefore his own reform that he is increasingly
able to realize, by the eternally continuing mercy of the Supreme Lord." [Read
the complete article in Bindu 177
http://www.gopaljiu.org/Bindu/Back_issues/Bindu177.pdf]
Bindu has featured many first-time translations, including stories and songs
from little-known works, such as Sri Tilak Ramdas' "Abhiram Lilamrta",
Yadunandan Das' "Karnananda", Jagadbandhu Bhadra's "Gaura-pada-tarangini",
Gopijanavallabha Das' "Rasika Mangala", Krishnadas' "Syamananda Prakash", Jiva
Goswami's "Gopal Campu" and Padma, Nrsimha, Brahma-vaivarta and other Puranas.
Bindu comes out twice a month, on every ekadasi. Each four-page issue begins
with an inspiring article from His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami
Prabhupada, and nearly every issue includes something from Srila Bhaktisiddhanta
Saraswati Thakur and Thakur Bhaktivinode. Articles by Sri Srimad Gour Govinda
Swami are a common feature as well as contemporary articles by the Bindu
editors.

Below are some of the kind words of encouragement about Bindu received over the
last 8 years:
I would like to subscribe to your publication. I looked at some back issues and
enjoyed the contents very much. I have stopped looking at the ISKCON web sites
except for our local site, because they are all obsessed with politics and
nonsense. Your publication is very nice. We just need to chant together in a
humble and loving frame of mind in order to solve all the problems. Thank you,
prabhus.
-- Praharana Dasi, Toronto
Your publication is an invaluable source of inspiration and important sastric
reference.
-- Vaisesika Das, San Francisco
Please include me in your subscribers' list for KK Bindu. I enjoyed the fourth
issue very much. May all of your efforts be crowned with success, and may this
meet you in the best of health and blissful spirits.
-- Tamal Krishna Goswami
Your magazine is the best on the earth.
-- Jayatam Jaya Sila Das
It is my great happiness to see that instead of joining the revolting
political debates and fights continuously taking place amongst the vaishnavas of
different groups, the sisyas of Gour Govinda Maharaja are peacefully engaged in
distributing pure, universal hari-katha without propagating any institution in
a sectarian way. You are doing a wonderful job for the pleasure of Sri Guru and
Gauranga. I wish you all success in your service.
-- Peter Erdody, Budapest
My sincere congratulations and gratitude for putting together a fine Gaudiya
Vaisnava online publication that we can all feel proud of.
-- Vicaru Das, Editor, "Sanga"
Thanks for all this nectar.
-- Indradyumna Swami
Your Bindus are WONDERFUL!
-- Mahavegavati Dasi
With great happiness I received your wonderful e-mail and devoured it
immediately. The Krishna Kathamrita Bindu is simply ecstatic. Short, concise,
thick with nectar, and fully authorized and in line with our glorious sampradaya
as revealed by Srila Prabhupada. It is just what a preacher needs who wishes to
inspire people. Please keep the good stream of nectar flowing!
-- Sacinandana Swami
Thanks for the latest KK Bindu. As usual, it was nectarean and a pleasant
ekadasi surprise for my wicked mind. I especially appreciate the non-partisan
spirit of the publication. I can hardly read anything on the internet these days
that isn't trying to promote, argue pro or con, or solicit. There is a place for
that I admit. I have my opinions, too. But it's easy to forget our real business
in life. At least I am reminded, by your kindness, on a bi-monthly basis. Thank
you.
-- Sarva-drk Das, Denver
Aapko bahut dhanyavaada!!!
-- Dasarath Suta Das, Georgia
I always look forward to receiving Krishna Kathamrita Bindu. It's just the right
size and just the right substance -- so short that I can easily devote the time
to it yet so juicy that a few drops go a long way. A newsletter with nothing but
pure Krishna-katha -- so refreshing! This is the real need of the day. Thank you
so much!
-- Jayadvaita Swami
Many thanks for a copy of the book, "Sri Krishna Kathamrita Bindu, Issues 1-17"
which I have just finished reading. In fact, I was not able to take up any of my
other works until I finished this book. I am happy to tell you that one can
really have a taste of sindhu reading the said issues of the Bindu.
One small suggestion: Can you start incorporating in each issue translation of a
portion of a Vaishnava Sanskrit text not yet translated? Wishing you success in
your venture.
-- Yours affectionately, Professor Samaresh Bandyopadhyaya, Head of the
Department of Ancient Indian History and Culture, University of Calcutta
Your wonderful writings have been so inspiring to devotees all around the world.
I can truly say I have always looked forward to every new presentation. My own
copies have been marked many times. I have shared them with so many other
devotees. Somehow each time they have appeared it has been so timely.
-- Bhakti Tirtha Swami
Someone recently directed me to your site and it is encouraging to see this kind
of preaching continuing some years now after Sri Gour Govinda Maharaja has
departed.
-- Swami B.V. Tripurari
I heartily approve the spirit of this message.
-- Jagadananda Das (Jan Brzezinski), Toronto
I'm a journalist from the "Economic Times", Bangalore edition, trying to be a
vaishnavi. I have always loved "Krishna Kathamrita Bindu" and the excellent
books you publish. "Krishna Kathamrita Bindu" and "Mathura Meets Vrindavan" are
so good. I repeatedly tell stories to people from them while preaching.

At no time will any member

the daily list mailings and waste the time of those who participate.
5 - When discussing the viewpoints of other parties, please avoid referring to

Hari Hari!
My pranams to the Vaishnavas. Those of you who were in Bhubaneswar in
the 90s will no doubt remember Jagadatma and Anuradha's children.
Pallika was one of the younger girls, she was about 11 or so when Guru
Maharaja left. Shortly after which, her parents took her and her
siblings back to Australia.
Anyway, she is now in her 20s and just got married on the 30th of
August at the Melbourne temple. Her husband's name is Reagan Woodward.
All the best to Pallika and Reagan.
Das anudas,
Madhavananda Das

Moderator, Gour Govinda Katha

Moderator, Gour Govinda Katha
After being in a coma from the 18 to the 23rd, Senan woke up in the
hospital. He is now fully conscious and talking. We went to visit him
yesterday and did some bhajan with him, (much to the entertainment of
the nurses and doctors). He is very weak, he can sit up in bed now,
but cannot yet walk. In general his condition is still unstable. He is
still using the respirator sometimes and is being fed either
intravenously or by drinking liquids. His mood seems to be good. The
doctors cannot say how long it will be until he goes home -- at least
3 or 4 days.
Unless Senan has a serious relapse, I don't plan on writing any more
updates on his condition. However, if any of you would like to write a
note to encourage him, please send it to me. I will be happy to print
it out and take it to him.
Vaishnava kripa prarthi,
Madhavananda Das
Dina Prabhu sent me two text messages today about Senan Prabhu.
This morning he sent me this:
1) "He opened his eyes the moment I said Hare Krishna to him. Seems to
recognize me. But drifts to sleep again."
And a few hours later:
2) "When you shout his name he responds by opening his eyes. Vital
signs normal with little medication for blood pressure. Dr. says he
should wake up 3 to 4 days. "Soon I think he will be communicating."
Your servant,
Madhavananda Das
