Description
This forum is meant for those who are interested in researching Goa, a region in South Asia. It is primarily intended for researchers and was initiated in April 1997 on Goacom server and transferred to Yahoo Groups in Sept. 2005. To join this forum you need to introduce yourself and let us have your real name, postal address, present occupation, and the reason for joining this forum. Kindly note, this is not a generic mailing list, but we do not wish to promote "ivory tower" research either. We favour a linkage of research with public interest and public causes in Goa. This forum is open to international membership, and since English is the only language in which we could all communicate without resorting to ambiguous and treacherous machine translations, we opted for English as the medium of communication in this forum, although Konkani, Marathi and Portuguese are firmly recognized as forming Goa's cultural heritage.
The success of this forum will depend upon the use you make of it. Avoid being a silent non-contributory reader, a curious lurker.
This forum wishes to promote better knowledge for better performance; no contests, no «diriô» (traditional Goan bull fights) please! Also no cross-posting or proxy-posting. We need to protect those who are not members of this forum and are not present to defend themselves. The Moderator reserves the right to edit any message before approval and without any prior referral to the message sender, if such a measure is required to remove any expression(s) which he deems ofensive or provocative. A member who disregards the netiquette even after a couple of call-attention notices from the Moderator may see his/her membership suspended or terminated.
This forum is dedicated to Abbé Faria. The commemorative philatelic postcard was issued by Portugal to mark 250 years of his birth. More on Abade Faria at http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/1503/faria.html
