Gnostics

"Pre-Christian Pagan Gnostics rejected a required context of 'blind faith' associated with praying to an apparent Extraterrestrial contrived God; in favour of alternatively seeking to critically appreciate as "cosmic scientists", the God of our universe, and that exists as the interconnected inner-spirit of humanity, expressed through companionship for each other, and nature. Prayer, is an alleged Extraterrestrial manipulation; and it can be viewed as an act which is constructed to deny the presence of the cosmic God within ourselves and nature; rather than "up there" someplace, in the sky."

"According to Morris, these same views prohibit Christian fundamentalists from engaging in dialogue with scientifically-minded people. For instance, he said fundamentalists do not allow that the authors of Genesis, when writing about the creation of the world, could have been speaking symbolically or that their views were based on limited scientific knowledge."

"Many of the texts were considered Gnostic and banned by the church Fathers during the reign of Emperor Constantine and were ordered to be burned. Gnosis is defined as knowledge discerned intuitively, and intuition is anathema to fundamentalists who prefer doctrines and dogmas, easy answers and who see black and white, but not shades of grey."
