All:

With snow on the ground, and decent weather planned for Saturday, we’ll burn the brush at our new duplex site on Tonella Road in Milford. Please bring  chainsaws, etc. as available – can’t burn anything >5-in diameter (but can remove any suitable as firewood). Directions from NH-101 overpass over NH-101A (Nashua Street, at the Amherst / Milford line):

Continue west on NH-101A W/Nashua St. 1.5 mi  to

Left (just before County Store) onto TONELLA RD.  0.2 mi  to

Left to house site on east side of the road

Thanks for responses to date on new parking area for the HFH truck. It should soon have its new home…

Also, still looking for a storage area suitable for donated windows and bathroom toilets / sinks. These would go into the Milford duplex, meaning that we’d want storage from mid-December through early next fall when they would go into the duplex. Will also be looking for volunteers to help move these items from Bedford.

Upcoming events:

Building permits and temporary power, Milford lot.

Spring excavation / foundation support for Tonella Road, Milford – seeking donations / deals.

Other small projects being coordinated.

Dear Habitat Volunteers and Supporters,

We just wanted to send a quick and brief note to let you know that our website address is changing from www.nashabitat.org to www.nashuahabitat.org. The old address will remain functional for the foreseeable future, but please make note of what will remain as the permanent address in the event of any change on that.

Email addresses ending in "@nashabitat.org" are ready to begin receiving correspondence at "@nashuahabitat.org."

We also want to draw your attention to our website and encourage you to read about many of the changes that have taken place in the last two months.  The organization is preparing to build a duplex this coming spring in Milford and we just had a very successful fundraising event during the Nashua Holiday Stroll - our Annual Bake Sale.  You can visit the website by clicking here.

We appreciate all your support!

All:

Need (again) a new home for the HFH truck. EMC has graciously allowed us to park in their lot for the past couple of years, but cannot extend that privilege.

I expect the truck will be parked in Milford when we start building there in the spring, so this need should only be for a few months.

Thanks,
eric

Dear Volunteers and Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity Supporters,

We would like to ask all of our volunteers and supporters to bring along friends and family to our Annual Bake Sale at the Nashua Stroll!  You can read about the Nashua Stroll and our Bake Sale, including details of time and location, at the Nashua Telegraph website by clicking here.  You can read a bit about the history of the Bake Sale by clicking on this link.

We are building homes for two families next spring and would like to double the proceeds raised at the Bake Sale this year!  Please join us this weekend - if you haven't made plans for Saturday yet, please visit the link included here to find out about the Stroll and our Bake Sale - directions and times... To download a copy of the Winter Holiday Stroll this year, please click on this link.  This year the Bake Sale will include an Arts and Crafts sale as well.

“The evening kicks off with a candlelit walk of thousands down to Railroad Square where the City’s official Christmas tree is lit.  Much of the downtown is closed to traffic for the evening, allowing Strollers to wander to different artistic and cultural performances, sample offerings from street vendors, dine in downtown’s fine restaurants and do holiday shopping at our unique specialty shops and boutiques.”

Thank you for your support, and Happy Holidays.

Regards,

Ed

Dear Volunteers,

I just wanted to add a note to our announcement that we need volunteers for the newsletter folding tomorrow: any time before and around 5pm we could use volunteers who are willing to carry some boxes upstairs with the newsletters.  These are not extremely heavy boxes but we could use volunteers who can help move them upstairs safely.

I usually take most of the boxes upstairs, but seeing as I am in the United Kingdom, my contribution to this effort tomorrow is limited to these emails this time around.

Tomorrow night (Thursday, 12th of November) we will be folding our fall newsletter at our office at 63 Temple Street in Nashua.  The newsletter folding will begin at 5pm.  If you are able to help us, please stop by and bring someone along!  We will be serving pizza and refreshments, as well as some snacks.

If you need any information please feel free to call Marie at 603.883.0295

The Nashua Habitat for Humanity is having a bake sale during the Nashua Stroll on Saturday November 28th from 5PM- 9PM.  It will be held at the United Methodist Church on Main Street.  Last years bake sale was very successful and over $1000 was raised thanks to the wonderful donations we received.  We are hoping to do even better this year!  This year we are also having a special table for crafts that are donated to be sold.

Once again we are asking for baked good donations and volunteers.  If you are interested in baking something for the sale, or volunteering to help at the bake sale, please contact Ellen Svenson at ERS03063@... or call her at 882-5953 and leave a message.  All donations will be greatly appreciated!

Dear GNHFH Volunteers and Leaders,

The GNHFH Affiliate News, for fall of 2009 is now linked on our website; you can read it by clicking here.  Those who are signed up to receive it in print will receive it sometime over the next two-to-three weeks.

This fall issue includes President Jerry Harrow's last column as president of GNHFH; the second of our series on Past GNHFH Presidents, and an article that launches our campaign to find a family for our Ridge Street property, in the French Hill area of Nashua: it briefly mentions our upcoming construction of a duplex home in Milford, which will help two families become home-owners (more news on this upcoming project, the largest one the affiliate will have tackled in a few years, will be included in our Holiday edition of the newsletter).

We hope you pass the newsletter around to those who can makes use of the information included in it; that you will consider looking at the list of volunteer opportunities mentioned on the front page (our volunteer vacancies are filling up at a fast rate but we still have many volunteer opportunities).  We also want to remind you of the urgent need we have for donations - funds, materials, land, etc.  A contribution envelope is always included in our newsletters.  You can also visit our website and contribute through PayPal at this link:

We sincerely appreciate your support.

Regards,

Ed

Dear friends,

I have learned, after mentioning the annual "Evening of Giving" in the October Faith Relations e-Newsletter, that the event is not occurring this year. Below you will see the confirmation I received from the Pheasant Lane Mall's representative directly regarding this. My apologies to all who may have begun publicizing this event in their congregations. My hope is that we will take Ms. Stone's suggestion to heart and come up with an alternative "Community Day" event to help make up for this significant opportunity lost.

Chip Robinson
Faith Relations Chair
Simon has discontinued this program nationally so we will no longer be hosting Evening of Giving. We are in the process of putting together several smaller events during the holiday season. Is there a particular group you are interested in raising money for or perhaps doing a performance at the mall? We do host "Community Days" periodically and we would certainly be happy to schedule your group during one of these events.

Dear friends,

Greetings from the Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity Faith Relations Committee!

One of the most important aspects of Habitat’s work is developing, maintaining, and growing our relationships with local faith communities. Below you will find the latest in a series of periodic newsletters. We hope you and people with whom you pray and work in your faith community find this information helpful. Please share this information with the appropriate persons in your faith community (outreach/benevolence/missions committee, pastor, etc.). We also encourage you to pass back to us news of your congregation’s involvement with Habitat. If there’s someone in your faith community you’d like added to our e-mail list (or removed from it), please let me know.

The Rev. David “Chip” Robinson
Faith Relations Chair

The mission of the Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity Faith Relations Committee is to build caring partnerships with local faith communities to further our shared mission of service to those in need in our community with affordable housing and construction assistance.

Who is your Congregational Representative?

Chances are, if you’re receiving this, you are! However, we don’t want to make assumptions, so… if your congregation hasn’t appointed a representative to act as a liaison between Greater Nashua Habitat and your faith community, now’s a great time to do so.

Your congregational representative will serve as the communications channel as follows:

·        Periodically, the GNHFH Faith Relations Committee will send electronic newsletters (like this one) to your representative – full of articles you can put in your congregation’s newsletter or bulletin. Your representative will work with the congregation’s administration to have this information inserted into the proper publication in a timely manner.

·        Periodically, the GNHFH Faith Relations Committee will contact your representative to maintain a personal dialog, to make the representative aware of ongoing GNHFH projects and to assess any congregational needs that GNHFH can fill.

·        Finally, your representative will act as a liaison between your congregation and GNHFH for any other communications that might be necessary (this does not preclude individuals or committees within the congregation from contacting GNHFH directly).

If you have anyone you wish added to this newsletter’s mailing list – or want to change contact persons – simply hit your reply button and let us know. We’ll gladly take it from there.

Faith Relations Committee adds new members

The Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity’s Faith Relations Committee is looking to expand – and is pleased to announce that two new members have joined our team: David Ainsley of New Life Christian Church in Hudson and the Rev. Tom Teichmann of Messiah Lutheran Church in Amherst. We could still use three to five additional team members. As Congregational Representative, will you “talk up” this possibility among your members? Our next Faith Relations meeting is set for Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.

By the way, one of the best ways our Faith Relations ministry can build partnerships with area faith communities is by coming and talking about Habitat in your church or synagogue. You may want a speaker for an Outreach or Benevolence Committee meeting, a Men’s or Women’s Ministry breakfast or lunch, or perhaps even a meeting of your whole congregation! If any member of the Greater Nashua Habitat leadership team can come to your faith community, let us know! Simply reply to this e-mail and we’ll take it from there.

Volunteer newsletter distribution manager needed

Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity is looking for a volunteer who is willing to lead the Newsletter Distribution efforts. What this responsibility entails:

  • Working with the US Post Office on our Bulk Mail Account (keeping track of balances and filling out a form when a mailing takes place).
  • Picking up the newsletter at the printer.
  • Folding, stuffing, and sealing our newsletter.
  • Sorting the newsletter into two groups before mailing it.
  • Requesting volunteers (through an email list our organization will provide) to help assemble the newsletter mailing.

This work takes place four times a year. All of the work mentioned above can be done in one day; it is generally more comfortably spread over three days: 1) a day to pick up the newsletter from the printer, 2) a day to fold the newsletters and stuff them, 3) a day to visit the postal office for mailing.

We’re looking for a volunteer willing to learn the process with supervision during two mailings and who can take the leadership role after those two times. You will have ample support in this role: newsletter work attracts a good amount of volunteers.

If you’re interested: email the Public Relations Committee at pr@....

It’s a busy time at Greater Nashua Habitat –
is your congregation on board “behind the scenes”?

You’ve heard us say it a thousand times: Greater Nashua Habitat needs volunteers! But does your congregation know that most of the volunteers we need are not construction-related? We have a wonderful cadre of faithful “hammer and nails” folk who come out Saturday by Saturday to help us build new houses and rehab older ones. And, with three new projects about to get underway, we’ll need such help more than ever in the coming years. But we also need an assistant office manager (5-10 hours per week), a database entry volunteer (3-5 hours a week), a fund-raising committee chair, and a 2010 Hike for Humanity coordinator. If you can help – or know of someone who can – be in touch! Simply reply to this e-mail and we’ll see that the appropriate person gets the word.

Have you ever visited our offices?

Greater Nashua Habitat maintains office space at two locations. Our principal administrative office is at 63 Temple Street in the Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Nashua building. We may also have some meetings in the classroom on the second floor. Parking is along Temple Street.

We also have office space located in the basement of the United Methodist Church at 154 Main Street in Nashua. When visiting this location, please try to find parking in the rear of the church or nearby and enter the rear side door to the church. Go down the stairs to the basement, and our office is next to the entrance to the basement area.

The two locations are about three blocks from each other and both are accessed from Temple Street off from Main Street in the heart of downtown Nashua.

We are an all volunteer organization, so please call us if you wish to talk to us. We try to return calls within a week.

Simon Evening of Giving coming this November!

The Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity participates each year in the Simon Evening of Giving, a Holiday kick-off event held at several Simon malls in the region at the end of November. Retailers offer the best values of the season to their guests during this exclusive after-hours shopping event. Door prizes, holiday entertainment and “one night only” discounts and sales have made this event one of the most successful fundraisers for our organization. Tickets are available each year through the Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity. Our organization is always seeking volunteers who are willing to help with this effort – either by selling or purchasing tickets. Please check the Simon Evening of Giving page on our website (www.nashabitat.org) this coming fall for details on this year’s upcoming event.

Church Partnership opportunities

Congregations of all sizes can support Habitat for Humanity in a variety of ways. Many congregations make donations and offer volunteers for local and global projects, and some churches become a voice of justice in their communities as they raise awareness of the need for adequate housing. What is God calling your church to do?

Pray

Without the continuing prayers of millions of people, Habitat’s work could not continue.

Make donations

One pastor said that when people give to projects like Habitat for Humanity, they are giving out of a different pocket. They still support their local congregations, but they respond to God’s call to do more. Options include:

·        Make regular donations to GNHFH or take up special Habitat for Humanity offerings.

·        Provide in-kind goods and services (For example, a plumber in your congregation might volunteer to do the plumbing work on a Habitat house.)

·        Raise funds to build all or part of a house. A congregation may sponsor a house individually or join with other congregations to raise the money and build a house together.

·        Tithe – set aside one-tenth (or whatever intentional proportion you deem appropriate) of the money you raise for local Habitat projects.

Provide volunteers

You may volunteer regularly to help your local affiliate or your church may choose to work on specific projects.

·        Organize volunteers for a house that your congregation helps fund.

·        Join volunteer teams around the world who proclaim a global sermon of God’s love each September during Building on Faith week.

·        Organize a Global Village team to build houses and hope in another country or community.

·        Serve on local Habitat committees. Individuals are always needed to help with acquiring land, finding and selecting qualified homeowner applicants, nurturing family partners, recruiting church support and more.

Engage your community

Continue to be a voice for those in need even after construction is complete:

·        Host speakers on housing issues – including representatives from GNHFH – to raise awareness of the need for decent housing.

·        Write letters to the editor and speak out about positive experiences your church has had helping Habitat build houses. Also be in touch with legislators and other community service groups. Make the commitment to become advocates for housing.

·        Bring the Habitat message to children by using “Under Construction,” a Vacation Bible School curriculum that incorporates Habitat for Humanity in its theme.

Dear Volunteers,

We are looking for a number of writers to tackle a number of newsletter articles.

The articles run about 400-800 words.  They can usually be written in less than an hour; from time-to-time they require a few phone calls for minimal research and quotes.  Some of the articles are time sensitive.

If interested, please contact me directly at this email.

We appreciate any help we can get!
