The Prince George’s County Police Department still has available space in their 1st Annual Leadership and Life Youth Summer Program.
Goal:
Through the course of the week, subject matter will be offered to challenge critical thinking skills, cultivate team building as a diversion to gang involvement and future success in life.
Objectives: Student’s Will
Define Leadership and describe qualities
Know the importance of healthy self esteem
Support principles of community service by participating in Responsible Service Initiative
Explore critical thinking skills through practical experience, open discussion and role play scenarios
Identify county agencies and services to aid them in their personal growth
Evaluate interview skills and techniques
Illustrate practical speaking skills through mock interviews and oral presentations
List alternatives to gang involvement
Give examples to why youth join gangs.
The program is designed for middle school students ( 6, 7, & 8 grades). The purpose is: 1) To empower youth to achieve their full potential by embracing and instilling a sense of discipline, leadership, community service, purpose, integrity, self-confidence and personal responsibility; 2) To have fun in a safe and structured environment by making new friends and enjoying team building and community service related activities.
The program is Monday thru Friday July 20-24, 2009 under the supervision of Prince George’s County Police Officers from the Community Services Division. Transportation is also provided. Students will be picked up from the Police Services Complex, 7600 Barlowe Road, Landover, MD 20785 at 7:00am and will be returned there at 3:30pm
The camp is held at the Prince George’s County Police Academy located at 4380 Forbes Boulevard, Lanham, Maryland 20706.
The program is FREE of charge on a fist come-first served basis. Lunch is provided along with a morning, and afternoon snack.
