brellchild

Given what Klaus said to Gil in the hospital it has been
theorized that Zeetha might be honor-bound to kill Gil
when/if she finds out about his background. Mainly, the
belief is that male children of Skifander are for some
reason not allowed to live.

I suspect that Gil is safe from Skifander vengeance for a
very simple reason... or at least he will be once Agatha
'claims' him.

Zeetha is Skifander royalty. Having taken Agatha as her
trainee, Zeetha has effectively adopted Agatha into the
Skifander royal house.

If Agatha claims Gil as her 'property' (remember the
time windows?) then Gil should be perfectly safe.
Uncomfortable, hugely embarassed, but safe as long as
he shows he knows his proper place.

I look forward to the confusions involved when they get
to Skifander. Especially if she brings any Jaegers other
than Jenka with her.

I was thinking some sort of projection or hologram myself, but you
have a good point about the holes.

Gotta say, after word of this filters through the gossip channels, Gil
should have no trouble keeping the popular support if he takes over
from his father.

Personnally, I thought the title of Storm King, as well as the
description of being the greatest king were simply the GG universe's
equivalent to King Louis the XIV (of France), who was also called the
Sun King

I never expected the Storm King to actually control storms... I
merely thought it was some form of grand title. And perhaps a
reference to his temperament, too (don't get him angry, he's as
fierce as a storm...)

----------------(Apply Chainsaw Here)

I always just took "The Storm King" at face value, but I did always think that
it might have something to do with control of weather.

The O&S (don't they make a lovely couple) up in the balloon thingie make the "He
called the Lightning"comment, as if it means something important. Like He's
wearing the one ring, or he can control the storm...Which I feel that maybe Gil
is attempting to trump the Pink Balloons fake Heterodyne with his Calling of the
Storm card...

http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20071128

So from the way it's said, and the title of Storm king, makes me think that, The
Storm King is a literal title, and that Gil, in calling down the lightning, has
sort of made claim to that...

just my two cents...

If that quote is authentic, it would say something about adoption of the
heliocentric theory. (Copernicus died in 1543, Galileo died in 1642,
Louis started governing in 1661.)

Also relevant from that Wikipedia article is what
immediately follows that:

As a result, he was associated with Apollo Helios, the
Greco-Roman god of the Sun. This is also fitting
because, as patron of the Arts, Louis was, like Apollo
Musagetes, the "leader of the Muses".

Remember, van Rijn made the Nine Muses for the Storm King.

http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20060106

To me, that evidence (along with the rest) is too strong to
think otherwise than that "The Storm King" is the GG analog
of our Sun King, Louis XIV.

(Doing a Google on "Knights of Apollo" -- which could be our
analog of "Knights of Jove" seems to turn up a connection to
the Masons...)

It could just be because she hasn't had much of a presence in the
comic (can you be a Jaegermonster without the relentless enthusiasm).
But I have noticed in real life that when you put a woman in with a
group of guys she will turn into Little Miss Voice of Reason and
Maturity, no matter how goofy or irresponsible her personality is on
her own or in a group of other women. Especially if you put her in
charge. The strength of the effect seems to increase in proportion to
the sillyness of the men in question. I can only imagine the kind of
sobering effect being a female Jaeger and an officer would have on
you.

I think today's update really makes Dupree see Klaus' point in the second
strip. She didn't see him take down the assassins, so she could dismiss that.
But she seen him call down lightning and destory those war clanks, and why
Klaus holds such a high opinion of his son.

Ooooo, I've been waiting for this day since Gil had his little pep
talk with Wooster. I'm all a-tingle here. Gil has become the mad-boy
we always knew he would turn out to be, complete with memorable lines
and assurances that he isn't some fluke or accident of fate.

Klaus beaming with pride seems fairly predictable, but I'm wondering
if he really thought things through with his son. Consider just the
choice of name Klaus used. To name your son after a Babylonian King
of mythological proportions seemed strange to me at first. But, after
all these years of reading, I'm starting to wonder if Klaus' main
goal, perhaps the only thing left of his days as part of the
Heterodyne Troupe, was to make the world a better place for his son.
The testing, the pushing, hiding him away in secret, allowing Von Pinn
to be his nanny, constantly controlling his environment, all of the
things we don't know about their relationship and what we have seen
has been to make sure Gil was up to the challenge of ruling an Empire.

And yet, I can't also help to think that Klaus has neglected the
downside. Soon all of Europe will know the name of Gilgamesh
Wulfenbach. Those hoping to ride out Klaus' reign, waiting patiently
until he made a mistake or simply died of old age, will now see the
threat in his son. Europe will have a new Baron Wulfenbach to contend
with after Klaus. I'm certain that many in the Great Houses will take
this news with something less than comfort or security in the future.
Indeed, I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few assassination
attempts are coming for our young Wulfenbach in the future.
