Hello Martha,
I read a message in reference to someone inquiring about Blaney Williams. One
individual Gayle Williams Licari posted a few inquiries on the Duplin County
site
about Blaney Williams, I don't know if she still needs the information
(parents, marriages etc,) but I thought I would pass it on to you. When her
last message was posted her e-mail address was: cosmoz@... Thanks for
your help on this.
Sincerely,
Bill Hill

Hi Gayle,
I am typing this message back to you that was sent by Martha Marble to
someone else.
From: mmarble@... (Martha Marble)
Reply-to: genpcfr@egroups.com
To: genpcfr@egroups.com, NCGREENE-L@...

Gayle,

Run this to the Greene list. At least one person has information on this
line and unless I messed up where the information came from she is on the
Greene list but not PCFR. On what I have there was a Blaney, son of Robert
and Mary Harper Williams andthe name keeps coming down. Someone else is
working this line also, but can't remember who it is.

Martha

Hi Linda,
Only five lines of Williams. I am searching for Blaney Williams, b. 1829
parents? He married Francis Ann KORNEGAY, divorced her in 1856, married
Mary C. KORNEGAY...Waswondering if he was related to Robert Williams
and Mary Harper Williams. but as yet no proof.

This is the message, it seems that Martha may be able to provide proof that
Blaney was indeed the son of Robert and Mary Harper Williams. I hope this
helped.
Sincerely,
Bill

This will not be new for most of us, but I believe there may be some who  find this useful. If you have ever wanted to find out what records exist for a specific NC county, you can do so by following these simple steps.
Begin on the main Pitt Co. page of USGenweb.
Scroll to bottom of page and click Interesting Links.
Next click NC Division of Archives and History.
Then click NC State Archives.
Next click on Finding Aids.
At this point you will be able to download a list of all records that exist in the archives for each county in NC.

Thanks Tracy,

The Pitt County resource list is posted on the PCFR website, with
permission, at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncpcfr/pittconcah.htm

The NC Archives website offers downloadable files on all NC counties, as
well as other information. It's always best to go to the original source
whenever possible...here's a direct link:

I am interested in the Vines Family also. In my notes I have:
Capt. Samuel Vines, b. ca. 1686, d. March 17, 1741, aged about 55 years; md.
____ Thomson/Thompson FOREMAN, d. Oct. 15, ______. This comes from the
pieces of tombstones plowed up in the 1890's.
They had about 8 children.
Their son: Col. Samuel Vines, b. June 20, 1716; m. _____. They supposedly
had a son, William Vines, b. July 20, 1745; m. _______. He had the son:
Samuel Vines , b. Aug. 20, 1775, d. May 19, 1863; m. Mary May.

Another Son of Capt. Samuel Vines, was named William Vines. William md. at
least twice (according to a court case). By his second wife, Mary
Wilkinson??/ McKeel??, they had a son Samuel Vines, b. Sept. 24, 1775, d.
Nov. 18, 1844 in Greene Co., NC; m. on July 21, 1811 in Edgecombe Co., NC to
Maria Brownrigg, dau. of George Brownrigg and his second wife, Obedience.
This Samuel Vines is the one buried several miles from Stantonsburg, NC, off
the old Sand Pit Road. The graveyard was once about 300 yards to the right
of the Old Vines house.

Thanks for sharing your Vines info. On January 15 Evelyn Hendricks had posed the question Who was the Samuel Vines who was buried near Stantonsburg in Greene Co. I was unable to answer her question, and I know she will be excited to finally have an answer. Thanks again.

Who can I address my additional support to via e-mail or snail mail to
emphasize the importance of "online" records, and research???  Because of the
devestation to the Ga. and some of the Ala. records, since many of our
ancestors came from, or moved through N.C....these records are of major
importance to us...and not everyone can just drop what they're doing, and
spend the time needed in the State Archives....

Tell me how to help.

Now, now. I would certainly like to see the Government digitize a bunch of
records - but I would like everyone who is saying Yes Yes - Government should
do this, to reflect on the last time you complained about the Government and
how much you were paying on taxes. Just remember, what you want the
government to do, someone else thinks is waste. The Government needs to
spend money on long delayed infrastructure - delay and it will only cost much
more in the future. Have you ever wondered how expensive it is to tear down
and rebuild overpasses because they will only handle four lanes instead of
six or eight. It is because everyone complains and hollers about the waste
of overbuilding -- if anyone has failed to notice, this country just keeps
on growing and needs to plan for the future and invest now. Part of that is
making records more accessible - but frankly, it doesn't seem to be a real
imperative.

And yet, for those of us who live "out of state" and are so far away, that
doing research in person is not an option...Paying $25.00 per question to
Ala. and Ga. archives for one question...I'd rather pay that to the
government for the access to the info. the states have...

It's not a matter of taxation...it's public record...but if you can't GO
there personally and copy the material...then you pay through the nose!
That's unfair.

Bill,
I seem to have misplaced the directions you gave me some time ago on how to
find the Peoples cemetery. The name is also spelled Peebles and Peeples.
Will you so kind as to send them to me again. We are headed in that
direction tomorrow, and hopefully this time we will get to the cemetery. No
doctors appointments this time to use up our time.

You head out of Greenville on NC 43 north toward Falkland. You will pass
Ironwood Country Club on your left. After you pass it you go down a small
valley like and when you come up the other side..Blue Banks Sub-Division is
on your right and the big sub-division on your left. After passing Blue
Banks there is a small patch of woods on your right. Be ready to slow
because when you pass this wooded section there is an open field. Turn
right beside the woods and follow it for 400 to 500 yards (might be more).
The cemetery is in the edge of the woods. you should see it from the car.
I believe there was an iron fence around it. At one time a few weeks ago
there were big containers of cotten sitting in the field. If you miss this
turn I believe there is a road to your left just a short ways past. I
believe it is called Cottendale Road. You can turn around then make a left
turn prior to the woods. Believe the field was a cotten field. The road
was good at one time.
Been out today doing sites in southern Pitt around Grifton and Rountree.
Did about 6 today and 6 yesterday. Have done over 500 so far.

Hi Bill:

Wow! You have surveyed a lot of cemetery sites. I'm still hoping that you
will run across a Baldree or two.

Its been awhile since I talked to you. Hope you are Mary are doing fine.
Things are well with us. Our youngest son has relocated to this area from
California. He is staying with us until he gets a job and an apartment.

Our weather has been picture perfect except for this week. It's been a
little chilly (high of only 58 degrees during the day) with a little wind
and rain. It's amazing that people out here think this is really cold
weather. I'm still reminded of all those years I spend in Detroit where it
was so awful cold and the sun hid for weeks at a time. Of course your
weather in Carolina is pretty good but a little humid.

Hope to hear from you sometime.

There is a M. D. McGowan cemetery .2 mile south of the three lanes on NC 43
South. On east side of road about 1/4 mile in field. Also the McGowan site
about .2 mile further south on east side of road. This one is in St.
Amand's book. McGowan and McGowans speeling. About .5 mile further south
is the J. H. Evans cemetery (it is in St. Amand's also) but no McGowans
buried therei.
There is also the Mills-McGowan site on Black Jack-Simpson Road .5 mile
south of Simpston. It is in St. Amand's book. Also J. J. McGowan site on
Portertown Road. I bleive it is in St. Amand's book also. There are
probably others but they don't come to mind right now.

Hi Lisa,
I read Bill Kittrell's response to your message. There must be more than one
Evans Cemetery off of Highway 43, I checked the one I thought you were
speaking of. It did have some Mcgowans buried there. The tombstones were very
hard to read, it looks as though this cemetery has had a ground fire to burn
through it. Anyway I will give you what I have, the dates are suspect, very
difficult to determine some of them.
Herbert Mcgowans (spelled with an s on the end) born Sept 15, 18--, died Sept
8, 1910.
Flossie, wife of Herbert Mcgowans died Aug 5, 1914, 89 years. (1) Mamie, dau
of H and Flossie, Mar 9, 1901-Jan 8, 1919 (2) Infant son of H and Flossie
Mcgowans, no dates (3)Cleveland, son of H and Flossie Jan 9, 1907-__20, 1907
(4) Arthur son of H and Flossie June 9, 18_4-Jul_1906, Nancy E. daughter of
M. D. and F Mcgowan, Feb 25, 1879-Oct_1889 James Henry Mcgowan, Nov 15,
1882-Jan 5, 1936, Emily, wife of Herbert Mcgowans, June 6, 187_-___1939 (1)
Lawrence, son of H. and Emily Mcgowans June 21, 1883-June 27, 1886 (2)
Infant child of H. and Emily, no dates (3) Rosa dau of H. and Emily J
Mcgowans, June _1897-aged 8 months Lazina Mcgowan, wife of Guilford Mcgowan
Nov 31, 1813-May_1892, her husband's tombstone was there I think, it looked
like Guilford McGowan but was completely unreadable. These individuals might
be in the St. Amand book, I don't have copies of them. Maybe someone in our
group does, and can verify or correct what I have tried my best to
transcribe accurately.
Anyway I hope this has helped some. Have a nice weekend and let me know if I
have been able to or can help you.
Sincerely,
Bill Hill

Good news!

Tracy Stancill has completed the 1820 census, and after a few snaffus in
getting the files compatible and converted, it's now posted on the PCFR
website! THANK YOU (shouting) Tracy!

Go to the site and choose "Our On-Line Resources" from the Main Menu table:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncpcfr/
Then scroll down to the Census category...take it from there.

Now--who's up for transcribing the 1830 census? Contact me for formatting
instructions before you start typing!

I'm still working on converting the 1860 census. Unfortunately, when I typed
it several years, I was not thinking about tab-stop conversions to html, so
it's a slow-going process--am nearly half-done. Please be patient with me.

I've also finally resolved by "bad monitor" problem, and hope to catch up on
editing the photographs you've been sending. Again--please be patient (I'm
still having Zip drive problems, and those photo files are to big to back up
on regular floppies).

John Lucas, bless your generous heart, your second batch of photos arrived
by snail mail this week, but I'll have to scan them first--another delay is
in order. Thank you for sharing them--they're gorgeous!
