Martha,
I have a good bit of information on the Pippin family of Edgecombe Co. My wife
and I restored the Cullen Pippin House on NC33N about 5 miles east of Tarboro.
These were the Pippins that moved down from Maryland about 1765. The house and
property we restored is ca. 1780.

Let me know if this is the Pippin branch you are researching and how much
information you have and/or need about them.

I will make another one later that you can see better. I did notice "after" I
sent it that a Knight Canal passes through Cheek's Mill Creek at the top and
down the map.

Dear Mr. Stokes,
Thank you for you offer of information. I am not a Pippin descendant but am
interested in the location of Solomon Pippins land. I have 3 grants for him and
think they are on or near Little Coneto Creek aka Averitt's Creek. Please advise
if you know where his land was. Also do you know of any connection with the
Hopkins Family? [Arnold, William, Daniel or Frederick.] Thank you again.

Hey Annette,

My name is Jo Webb and I am with the Edgecombe County Genealogical Society.

I have been doing cemeteries in Edgecombe and I would like to have your
permission to put the ones you have done in our next book. I just finished
volume 2 church cemeteries, and I want to have family cemeteries in volume 3.

Our club is small. In other words just old ladies and two or three old men.
All of us are old and have so many aliments we are just not able to get out and
survey many of the cemeteries.

Of course your name will be put added to the cemeteries that you have done.

Jo

Hi,

Speaking of cemeteries...has anyone run across anything on a Jesse Warren
Wainwright? She was my ggrandmother, she died in Greene County 6/19/1938
death certificate states that Hunt Funeral Home in Stantonsburg was the
undertaker and she was burined in a the family cemetery. She was from
Edgecombe County her mother was Jennie Deloach. Thought she might be burind
in Edgecombe...there is nothing listed in the Pitt County Cemetery Survey
book.

Thanks,
Wanda

   Hey Annette,

My name is Jo Webb and I am with the Edgecombe County Genealogical
Society.

I have been doing cemeteries in Edgecombe and I would like to have your
permission to put the ones you have done in our next book. I just finished
volume 2 church cemeteries, and I want to have family cemeteries in volume
3.

Our club is small. In other words just old ladies and two or three old
men. All of us are old and have so many aliments we are just not able to get
out and survey many of the cemeteries.

Of course your name will be put added to the cemeteries that you have
done.

   Jo

Is there anyone still recording or researching farm cemeteries? I am trying to
find the African American Edwards cemetery. I found the one for William B.
Edwards' family, off Stalling and Edgecombe Church Rd. and was told the other
one was nearby. I was unable to locate it. I found an interment record for an
Edwards descendent for 2001 so I am hoping the place is in fair shape. I have a
list of names for other individuals said to rest in the same cemetery if anyone
is has some insight. Another source mentioned the African American cemetery had
two parts, one much older than the other. If anyone can help me solve the
mystery of the missing cemetery it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ty and all researching in Edgecombe ,,

I admit I haven't been paying attention here to these last number of emails ,,
because my research is in Pitt and formerly Beaufort/Bath (and before that
various districts. So, I'm not sure if research in Edgecombe is pertinent to the
research I have done. If it is ,, I would be happy to share it. I'm researching
Moores in Pitt County in the early 1700s. So far the names you all have posted
are not any that I have research to share.

My apologies if my post was of little interest. I found it when doing an
advanced search in hopes of discovering if Charlotte Beck was still an active
participant in the forum. It was something of interest to me, so i revived the
old message with a new thread.

I am researching African Americans so often the majority of the posts do not
generally apply to me. I suppose I was swept up in the excitement of having
leads.

Dear Ty,

Please don't take the lack of response as little interest. This group mostly
concentrates on Pitt Co but does share info from other counties if they can help
out with leads and resources. There are some wonderful researchers in this group
that do share when they have something to share. Have you been on the
'freeafricanamerican' site? I can dig up that link for you if you haven't been
there yet. And, they by no means limit the research there to African Americans
but it is a great resource for that research. I have found wonderful info there.
And, in the various wills of landlowners that name the slave in their wills. So,
you also need to hunt around for those in the area you're researching if you
believe your ancestors were slaves or indentured servants.

So, keep being excited about new leads and don't be overly disappointed if it
doesn't pan out. My cousins and I just keep digging and we have found amazing
information in the most unlikely places. Then we beat our heads against that
brick wall and say "I can't ,, I can't do this anymore." Then, of course, we do
because the hunt is so much fun and so interesting. Sometimes it isn't easy
research ,, but it is always interesting.

all best, Cheryl o7o

My apologies if my post was of little interest. I found it when doing an
advanced search in hopes of discovering if Charlotte Beck was still an active
participant in the forum. It was something of interest to me, so i revived the
old message with a new thread.

I am researching African Americans so often the majority of the posts do not
generally apply to me. I suppose I was swept up in the excitement of having
leads.

because my research is in Pitt and formerly Beaufort/Bath (and before that

research I have done. If it is ,, I would be happy to share it. I'm researching

A big thank you to everyone that that has contributed. Really helps to fill in
the gaps and present some nw starting points.
Hoping someone can help me with some birth dates for this Smith family.
I am a descendent of Argent Smith and Jacob Elks. My question is of her Mother,
Mary Smith and grandparents, Oliver Smith and Nancy Sheppard.
According to the 1850 census, Argent was born in 1788. Nancy and Oliver Smith
were apparently born about 1766 and married in 1786. How does Mary fit into this
gap? Does anyone have a birthdate for Mary Smith (Charles Smith's {s/o David
Smith and Jemima Hardee} wife)? Hope this makes sense...

My GG Grandfather was Thomas E. Hardee, born 1808. His father was Robert
and Robert's father was Isaac from the South side of the Tar River. Isaac
died around 1780. There were two Isaac's in the Pitt County Regiment in
1775. Based on a deed from Issac Stocks to Isaac Hardee, son of William,
that isn't my Isaac. My Isaac could be the son of Robert (born 1710) and was
having children from 1738 until after 1748. But several sources say he was
unmarried. The Isaac that was John's son who married Cassandra Smith was
25 years old and reportedly died without children. Because of the naming
patterns, it would appear that my Isaac was the son of Robert. Anyone else
sorting out the Isaacs in Pitt County?

Hi Edith,
My Parker is Mary Emily Parker (b. 1697). I have her as the mother of Col.
John Hardee. Whether she was or not is still debatable. This line from her is
quite fuzzy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Tyson is Susannah (1701-1785) d/o Mathias Tyson and Mary LNU Tyson.
Susannah apparently married Col. John Hardee and is Jemima's mother. Is your
Thomas Susannah's brother?

Does anyone know if the name was also spelled "Tison" ? And, I did note a
Tyson's Branch off the Tar River. That was near our gang of Moores. Any thoughts
on this are appeciated. We have a "Betsy Tison" which was likely the nickname
for an Elizabeth. I'm just guessing here at this point in my research. Our era
of focus is the early 1700s in Pitt/NC and just up to the late 1700s. After that
,,we pretty much have our branch nailed.
