I caught the double marriage of Hardy Cobb and merged that (after I sent it
in) after I read it when it came back into my mail box online.

I did a relationship check for my grandson, 9 years old, and he is a 4th
cousin twice removed of Ava Gardner. I did the check in the FTM program. She
would
be 82 in 2004 and he is 9 years old.

Golleee, surprise, surprise. I didn't think he would even be related to her.
You never know. Shazam!!!!

Grinning,
Faye Hays

Lou,

Did you mean the Pitt County Family Researchers?

Go to this site for Pitt County Family Researchers

	 http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncpcfr/

for all information about joining the group, the quarterlies, etc.

One can easily subscribe to the NC-PCFR email list, which is a rootsweb
list, by sending an email to

	 NC-PCFR-L-request@...

with only the word "subscribe" in the body of the email.

It is a great group with lots of helpful folks, as is the group of
people who are so helpful on Jewelle's genpcncfir list. We have much
for which to be thankful, with all the kind people who help and share
with one another on these lists, and especially for those who host and
manage the lists, making it all possible.
Special thanks to Jewelle.

Trish

No Loretta Lynn connection, but she was connected to the Daniel Boone family
through an aunt of the famous Daniel Boone. So I sought to connect Daniel
Boone to the NC Boons, but unfortunately there is no connection that I can see.

Daniel Boone's ancestor, Squire Boone came to Pennsylvania in 1713 from his
"English connections."

Our NC Boons came from

Nicholas Boon immigrated to the Virginia Colony from England before 1663 and
settled in the tidewater region of Isle of Wright County, not far from
Jamestown. The name "Nich"(NB) Boone" appears on a petition of "Grievances"
signed by
several residents of Isle of Wright county dated October, 1677.

So, to make a connection, if there is one, it would have to be on the English
side of the family farther back up the line.

Here are all the Lulas in 1900 in Pitt Co. Looks like
Lula Hayzlet is the closest in age. It looks like her
name is spelled Hazzlet on the actual census. She is
a boarder and single and maybe living with McWhorters?
William Mayo is also a boarder in Pitt Co. I don't
think he's in the same group. Will look around for
Hazzlets.

Welcome to the never ending Road Well-Travelled!

             Gypsies of the Americas

        Gypsy Queries & Oral Tradition

Welcome to the never-ending road well-travelled! Latcho Drom! (Safe Journey)
Roma, or Gypsies, were in the Americas along with the very earliest settlers,
and have retained their traditions for a millennium. There are written records
of the Portuguese "dumping" Gypsies in South America, and legends of them doing
the same at what is now Port Royal, SC, long before the English came. Gypsies
originated in India, migrating to, and through, Europe in the Middle Ages. We
here provide a gathering place of Gypsies in all of the Americas, and for those
of us with known or suspected blood connections. We welcome oral tradition! We
welcome submissions from all of the Americas.

Many of us have known or suspected bloodlines from Gypsies (Roma), and
Romanichals (who are Roma as well). Often these are stated within our families
as being (American) "Indian," probably because these are thought more
"acceptable." Mostly because of past persecutions, which still occur, despite
that fact that they are nearly everywhere, Roma prefer to remain anonymous and
unrecognized, except to each other. They are your unsuspected neighbors. They
are an unknown proud minority. These circumstances make it difficult for those
with bloodlines to obtain information on their elusive ancestors. I shall try
to keep this web site useful for Roma and non-Roma with known or suspected
bloodlines.

Roma, or Gypsies as they are often called by non-Roma, have clear origins in
India, early characterized by Europeans with dark skin and black hair. A
thousand years of co-existence in Europe has resulted in some integration and
today Roma may be found in all sizes, and with all shades of skin and hair. The
Patrin web site (off site), is based in Europe, and has excellent basic
information.

Many Gypsies do not send their children to school, or only for a few years, for
fear of losing their culture (Well, can you really blame them? Do we Gadjo
actually have any culture anymore in the USA? Our "culture" seems to be
vulgarity and materialism.). The few who do attend school are sworn to secrecy.
This means that many Gypsies do not write well. Do not think ill of them for
this. To my knowledge, only the Jews incorporated a strong ecclesiastical
education element into their culture.

I reworded these pages as "Roma," which is more correct, but the majority of
hits of the pages from search engines were for the words "American Gypsy," so I
have changed them back. Sigh. The Geocities server reports search engine hits
with the words used to find the page. Fear not. It only tells me how you
arrived, nothing else, nor am I interested, except to make these pages more
accessible.

Does anyone on the list have the 1900 census on disk?
I have access to it online but I'm helping someone
find Truman Baker and we haven't found the right one
yet. I need all the Truman Bakers in the 1900 census.
I'm thinking that a census transcriber could have
made an error. He may be in Michigan and there are
some there, just not the one I'm looking for.

Patricia, after reading your communication about the Genealogical Society
Workshop, I am wondering if any of the speaches will be made available on
tape or written for those of us that cannot attend. The workshop includes
subjects that I am very interested in and would be pleased to pay what ever
the cost to have the info. Please let me know if any of the days information
will be available for sale. Thank you in advance for any info you have on
the subject. Elizabeth Beavers----- Original Message -----

Carol,

Louise Peed married William Mac McGowan, my great Uncle, he was the
son of James Guilford McGowan and Lucy Sermons, and the grandson of
McDonald and Quillie Mills McGowan.

Cousin, Lisa

My mother's maiden name was Dilday, some of the family spelled it Dildy. My
great-great grandfather was Cooper Bennett Dilday. Cooper married Malinda Ellis
in Jackson County,IL in 1853. My great-grandfather was Issac Ensign Dilday who
married Sarina Elizabeth Skelton in Conway, AR in 1890/91. My belief is that
Elias Dilday was Cooper's father, although I do not have absolute proof.
Cooper named his first son Charles Daniel, after his grand-father, Charles
Dilday and Malinda's father, Daniel Ellis. Issac Ensign was his second son and
John B. was the third son. I believe John B. was named after Cooper's brother
John Balas. Charles Daniel married Elva Jane Henson and John B. married Rachel
M. Skelton, Rachel was Sarina Elizabeth Skelton Dilday's.???our family always
believed the two Skelton women were sisters, but my research indicates that they
may have been Aunt (Rachel) and niece (Elizabeth). My part of the Skelton
family migrated to Arkansas after the death of James Skelton,
son of Amos A.Skelton and Charity Reeves Skelton of Hickman County, TN...
My great-grandfather's obituary states that "Ike Dilda died at his home at
Tarlton." This was early 1900's in Pope County, AR on what was known as Dilday
Ridge.

Cooper Bennett was born 1827 SC, The 1830 Rabun County GA census states that
Elias and Phariba Wimpy Dilday had two sons age zero to four , according to
David Clark one of these sons was John Balas born 1829 and the other was Cooper
Bennett. David thinks that because Cooper named his son John B. and because of
their migration pattern that Cooper is Elias' and Pharaba's second and unnamed
son...Cooper is not in the 1840 census with Elias' family in Alto Pass, Union
County IL...but Cooper is in IL because he marries Malinda there in January,
1853 and all of their children are born there. To me, I have a strong
circumstantial case that this my line.

If anyone can help me with my search I will appreciate it greatly.

Mary Robinson
