Hello, My great-grandfather was said to have worked on one of the ships coming
to the US as a cabin boy. He went to town and when he came back it was gone. He
stayed in the US. I have information that he became a citizen. I can't find him
in the Ellie Island records. Now what do I do. Here is the information I do
have.

Name: Albert Fisher or Tyser ( Immigrant workers didn't understand him so they
gave him the last name of Fisher.
Born June 1,1882 Pilsen, Austria or Hradek, Czechoslovakia ( War changed
borders)
Arrived in US: June 1903
Became citizen: July 5, 1921
Other brothers came over using the tyser name and I have looked and looked.
Thanks for your help, Barb

Hello:
What "town" did your Grandfather stay in? It would be
easy to check census records; but we must know what
State and, if possible, the County in which he lived.

You might want to contact the local genealogical society or library to

I'm trying to determine who the parents of this James Stewart were.

In the course of my research it appears to me that 2 seperate James
Stewart/Stuart's are being combined into one person with 2 different
wives and family's but one set of parents.

According to my information this James Stewart was born 2-22-1772 in
Green Briar, WV and Died 1835 in Green IN. Married Sarah (Sally)
Fleshman 1775-76 in Green Briar, WV She was born 1778 in Green Brair,
WV and Died 1832 in Green, IN

It appears the other James Stuart was born 1772 in Augusta Virgina and
Died 1818 in Mississippi. He married Elizabeth Stockton about 1803 in
Staunton, Augusta, Virgina

Alexander Stuart and Mary Moore seem to be listed as the parents for
both.

Is there anyone that has verifing documentation that would clairify
this issue?

I've been looking for land records, church records, etc. so far no
luck but I've stuck here in the northwest so must do all my research
on the internet or by mail.

Hello folks,

Earlier this week I was contacted by a researcher who had information to
share on my great-great-aunt, Euphemia Paxton Hewitt. He was able to point
me to a manuscript in the Ratcliffe College Library collection written by
Euphemia. Per the Ratcliffe Library search engine, the manuscript was
submitted by her daughter, Mary (Hewitt) Good in 1986. (I'm currently
working with the librarians there to acquire a copy of the manuscript.)

I have no further information on Mary Good. I know nothing of Mr. Hewitt
other than he married my gg-aunt and was also a teacher.

What I know about Euphemia is as follows: She was born in South Dakota in
1879; attended Univ. of California, got a B.S. in 1900, then taught for one
year before going to the Philippines to teach (she was one of the
"Thomasites"). She left the teaching service at the end of her 3-yr.
contract, in August 1903. Euphemia and Mr. Hewitt were married at a
missionary's home in Yokohama, Japan, in 1905, amid Japanese celebrations of
the Russo-Japanese War. I have her returning to the US and a mention of her
in an alumni publication shows they moved to Yonkers, New York.

I would love to find Mrs. Mary Good or her descendents. If anyone can point
me in the right direction, I'd very much appreciate it.

Does any list member have any access to census or
commercial records for the Philadelphia -
Maryland area (including Burlington). I'm looking
for a Nicholson family who are likely to have
been in the clothing trade as retailers or
drapers.

This family would have come from Ireland early in
the 19th century and were definitely resident in
the 1850s. Common family names were Henry,
Richard, Michael and James although any Nicholson
details would be welcome.

One in particular, a Henry Richard Nicholson was
married to a Mary/Marķa neé Pottash and would
have had a number of children, born in Gibraltar.

I live in northern England and have no access to
US records except by subscription which is hard
for me.

Many thanks

Martin

Now what do I do. Here is the information I do have.

Hi, Barb,
I wish I could be of help, but I'm having the same problem.
Although I've found my grandfather at Ellis Island in 1903,
I'm not finding my grandmother and her kids, [who I know arrived
that same year]. I have good reason to believe that grandfather
Soukup worked in the Pa. coal mines and I'm thinking the family
followed him, perhaps arriving in Philidelphia or Baltimore.
The family was also supposed to be from the area around Pilsen.
I'll post my findings when, [by some miracle], I find them.
Good luck to us both!
Dee
