Searching for any information concerning those mentioned
surnames for the following individuals. Thank you for any
information you may be able to provide. I have had problems getting
information from family members of my husbands. Seems they want to
be the "caretakers" and not willing to share any of it...so I am
taking the bull by the horns and doing my own search.

Jacob (Jake) RUGER (1857-1937) formerly of Keya Paya and Cedar
Counties of NE. Was told he was a stowaway on a ship from Germany.
Do not have any information concerning his parents or where he came
from except that he was born in Russia. First wife, Minnie (maiden
name and dates unknown) died either during or after childbirth with
daughter Cora. Then married a Laura M. (01/19/1873-1972), maiden
name unknown and had 5 more children. Both died and buried in
Coleridge, NE.

Joseph BRACHT (04/12/1864-12/27/1937)married to Franziska SCHONEBERG
(12/26/1873-12/11/1924) and had 8 children. Settled in the
Hartington, NE area where both are buried. Have no knowledge of
either parents or background. Franziska came to USA aboard SS
Southwark arriving in NY on 09/23/1896 with intended destination of
Hartington, NE. Knowledge of only 4 of their children.

Franz SCHONEBERG, headstone found in a Hartington Cemetary with
following dates 01/26/1839-09/10/1906. Would like to know if this
man is related to Franziska? Any information would be helpful.

Daughter of Jacob/Minnie RURGER named Cora (1888-3/1969) married a
Bert Rubin REYNOLDS (1880-?)having around 10 children including a
daughter named Pearl May born in Crofton, NE. Settled around
Neligh, NE. I was told that Bert was a law officer. Have no
knowledge of other children names or dates.

Thanks again for any help you may be able to provide.

Hi Everyone :)

I'm new to this site and I`ve just started looking in my family
history and I really don't know anything about Genealogy or how to go
about gathering information, other than what I get from my family
(which isn't much, dont have any records I know of).

I'm trying to hunt down information on Captain Blood, and his brother
(He's my Great Grandfather 6 times removed) and also hunting down our
family name of Lyall (back to Scotland) and Marsinski (back to
Polish). But finding that rather difficult.

If anyone has any tips or advice on how you go about this sort of
research, I'd be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks!

   Obtaing military records.
   Go to www.archives.gov/research_room/index.html
   this is the national archives.
If you are searching for military records for abt.1902
and before back to the revolationary war you will need
to order form # NATF Form 86 for a service record.
For a pension record you need to order form NATF Form
   85.
These forms you have to order from the arvhives as
they are in tripcult and they will mail you how many
forms you want. You must specify exactly which form
you want. it takes about 7 days to get them.
They wait to even find out if they have a copy of the
record for the person you want can take up to 4 months
   or more.
For Service Records from world war one forward,
You need form # Standard Form, Sf-180.
This form you can download and print off your
   computer.
This form goes to St. louis,Mo. to the national
personnel records center for military personnel.
Basically anyone can obtain a copy of a persons
service record, just not their health. if the person is
alive then you need them to sign forms.
If person is deceased then it is no problem.
It can take up to 12 weeks to get a reply.
The easiest thing to do if you've never ordered
records is go to above website, and click on the
section for genealogy, and a couple of other sections,
it tells all about ordering records.,etc.
I have never had a problem getting any copies for
   ancestors, I've ordered 1812,revlationary,ww1 & ww2
I just note on form "for genealogy purposes only"
Sorry for so long, hope this helps everyone.

Several of the Malone, NY cemeteries are viewable on-line. Do a search for
Franklin County New York cemeteries. Now, I realize that your question
refers to your ggggrandmother but one never knows what kinds of clues one
might find in cemeteries. Middle names of distant relatives indicating a
family" connection, etc.

Also, the "Malone House of History" has a very large genealogical section.
You might try contacting them or, if you can ever visit, that might work
even better. The last I knew they were a bit "stuffy" about their holdings
but things might be better now.

Good luck with your quest...

Boy where's a good lawyer when you need one? I've got a question. I
have traced my g-grandfather Linius D. HOBSON (1859 - 1938) from
Blackhawk Co., IA (He was born in Washington Co., OH) to Oklahoma City OK
(where my grandfather was born) to Denver CO. According to family legend
he was a lawyer who was disbarred because of his fierce temper. I have
no idea where he would have gotten his licence from or where he would
have been disbarred. Does anybody know of a national legal association
which might have kept records at that time, and where I might be able to
obtain these records at? I would appreciate any help with the history of
this man as he fascinates me and I think there is a story there.

HI! I am Jeannette and I live in New Brunswick, Canada. I am
trying to get into family tree business for both sides of my
family. Am interested in finding out where exactly myh ancestors
are from.

From the limited amount of research that I have done, I have some
relatives, from both my mom's and dad's side of the family in the US
and also in Canada. I have one relative, from what I have learned,
is from Cornwall, England. Unfortunately it seems that I am not
able to go back further than John Sobey who came from Cornwall,
England to Prince Edward Island.

The surnames that I am interested-that I can remember off hand-are;
Gunn, Sobey, Flemming, Briggs, and Lincoln. I think that there are
more, but can't remember.

Not only am I interesed in looking up grandparents, great
grandparents and the like, I am also interested in finding out
uncles, aunts, and cousins as well.

I hope that I will be able to get some help from some of you. I
will try and help out, if I can. Nice meeting you all.

brothers of my great grandmother (Clara Freeman Lancto/Loncto)...
Eli was born in 1874 in Massachusetts; Charles was born 1879/1880.
Their parents were John Freeman and Louise/Louisa Daniels.

I have documents that show that Eli lived with his sister Clara in
1900. (She was married to Alfred Lancto/Loncto). It shows that Eli
was 25 ,living with Clara and Alfred on Belmont Ave in Springfield,
MA. and Eli's occupation was listed as a painter. The last thing I
found was that Eli was in Northhampton State Hospital in Mass. in
1920..and it indicated he was married.

No other info on Charles just in 1880 when he was 7months old..
Does anyone have any info on these two..

Hoping that someone might be able to help me find information in the
Schenectady, NY area. My G-Grandfather, Frederick (Fred) Adebahr
(10/30/1875-?) came from that area moving to San Antonio, Texas in
the late 1800's to early 1900's, showing up in the 1910 Census for
San Antonio, Bexar County, TX. He was employed as an
Architect/Builder in San Antonio. Did locate on Ancestry his WWI
civilian Draft Registration but that's all I can find. He was
married to Hattie Staly in NY and no other information is
found/known for her except she ended up in the San Antonio State
Hospital. While in Schenectady, NY. they had at least one daughter
(or that's all we know of), Florence Mildred Adebahr born in 1894.
She would later marry my grandfather Edward Andrew Urban in San
Antonio, Tx. date unknown but probably around 1917ish. I appreciate
any help that will be offered in helping make this mystery come to
an end. Thanks!

Kerri:

There are lots of free sites out there ... some good, some not-so-good ...
and some of the folks here on this list have provided links to many of them.
Some of the "paid" (subscription) sites have free non-member access areas
which can sometimes prove helpful.

If you're going to research your family history -- particularly on-line --
you will have to become very familiar with conducting on-line searches.
This is a good place to start!

Likewise, you don't mention the genealogy software you are using (intend to
use?) ... if I may suggest Legacy? (http://www.legacyfamilytree.com ) They
offer a free download of their version 4 which does a very good job of
maintaining your results. (There is also a "DeLuxe" version which is very
inexpensive compared to some of the other commercial programs out there.
Actually all you get when you make the upgrade is an 'unlock' code to enter
into your already-downloaded free version).

Not certain this is what you had in mind when you asked your question ...
but hope it is helpful nonetheless.

Good luck...

Scott Carlton

I have a friend who would like to help her aunt find 2 sons she
adopted out around the 1940's. She knows approximate ages, where
they were born, where they were taken to be adopted out, their birth
names, and that both boys were adopted into the same family. Can
anyone offer any advice as to the best starting places? They are
working to get into the national adoption registry now. Any help
would be much appreciated. Thanks!
