Check Crystals for a cold solder joint.Other than that you need a Service Manual
for that radio,Start by seeing what the voltage is on the PLL.Could be a bad
diode on the adder board also.

I would first try cleaning the bandswitch. It could be nothing more
than dirt inside the switch. I'm not sure what type of spray cleaners
Radio Shirk sells these days, but you may want to try the
non-lubricating type first and see if that helps.

Also, check the connections on the switch. Start simple, and if these
suggestions don't work, go from there and let us know.

Supposedly the group has moved elsewhere, but I know there are a few
of us Galaxy outbander types who still hang around here.

Good luck,

RLD

Hello outbanders,
Has any one ever had this problem. I have a 5 band Saturn that until
yesterday has been rock solid. Now the unit has developed frequency
instability that renders the unit useless. if you get lucky enough to
get the frequency back it goes poof when you switch bands. Anybody that
has had that problem I don't know but if you have heard of it maybe a
component number or point in the right direction would be appriciated.
Thanks,

Yea I know its not the way its supposed to be but for the last ten
years or so a bunch of us use 27.585 on the AM side.Or we can set up
another channel above 40 for like a call channel its up to you guys
voice your thoughts. And please tell everybody about the new site it
should be a fun forum for everybody.

Sounds good -- but, don't you have the frequencies backwards? Usually
frequencies below channel 1 are AM, and those above channel 40 are SSB
(usually LSB here in the USA). Just curious. ?? There's a LOT of
SSB up above 40.

How about 26.765 AM & 27.585 either USB or LSB? That more conforms to
the current use of the band. Just a suggestion...

Hi all,Im new to the group.I have been into radio most of my life.Ever
since I was a youngin back in the 70s and dad had a base and mobile
setup.Dad used to let me talk to his friends from time to time and I
was hooked ever since.I was introduced to 10 meter radios by an on air
friend about 10 years ago and have since become hopelessly addicted to
the hobby, obsessed my wife says lol.I currently run a Galaxy 66/Texas
Star 250 in the big truck and a General Lee/Fatboy 5 pill in my
personal car.I spend most of the time on ch 21 wich is the local ch
around here but when the skip rolls I can be found just about anywhere
on the regular 40 or the freeband chasing it.Anyway I just wanted to
wave 4 fingers and a thumb, catch ya all out there in dx land.73s Shawn

need them.

Yea its crazy how even in Electronic Parts people have scams
going.Well I am off and going to mount a fan to a heat sink for my
SD1446 Mod and a thermal switch and then I can get ready to drop the
pill in the radio.

thats good to know i also have a warning that came from a tech friend
of mine here in cincy. he bought some off of e-bay a sominotoro or
something like that and said they are junk 3-4 watts out of a dual
final radio is all he could get. so stay away from those!!!
also some people are buying up cheap imitations and resilkscreening
them as 1969's. in most cases its easy to spot the silk screen image
on the final is a lot smaller that the real one and its of very poor
quality. i dont know how to post pictures yet but when i figure it
out i will post some examples.

If anybody has had any luck with the Mos Fet finals please post,I
have herd they are a pain to get working right, the ERF2030 and also
the 520.I also have plans how to make your own drivers for the Mosfet
finals if anybody needs that info.Thats one reason i am working on a
mod to replace all finals with the SD1446 final.
