There is a story about geese flying in a "V" formation. As each goose flaps her wings, an uplift is created for the goose behind. It's been said that by flying in this formation, a flock of geese working together can create a 71 percent greater flying range than if each goose flew by herself. When a goose decides to leave her companions, she immediately feels the pull of resistance and the increased effort of flying solo and rejoins the V. When the lead goose tires, she moves back a bit and lets a fellow traveller take up the point. The geese at the end of the group honk enthusiastically to encourage the others to continue. It's said that if one goose becomes sick or is wounded, two friends will follow her to the ground and remain by her side until she can fly or dies. Only then do they leave to find a new flock or to catch up with their own.

FutureStory 2008 is an online community for people who wish to experience the power of flying with friends into an new year. Participants have chosen a New Year's "word" or "phrase" that they wish to realize or incorporate in their lives. An experimental alternative to the traditional New Year's resolution, the individual's word or phrase is used as a focal point while living daily life. This community is where participants come together to "honk for encouragement"--to share their success and to support others as they create their "future story."
