It's a pity we did not arrange a closer venue to Furzedown !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Although The Thrale is closed, The Railway Station (opposite Tooting main
line)
is only yards away ???????????
Too late to change now, but worth remembering for the future.
Ellis.
I'll drive down. Would anyone like a lift?

Some of us are meeting in a pub this Friday evening (4th Jan) from
8pm onwards. Please come along and please bring anyone else. The
venue was agreed some time ago because we could not find a suitable
venue within Furzedown at the time <shame :-( > but hopefully we
will do for any future get togethers.
The pub is called "The Leather Bottle" and is on Garratt Lane. If
you are travelling north on Garratt Lane you have to go a little past
Burntwood Lane before you come to it on the left hand side of the
road. It is in the same vicinity as the police station. See you
there!
Best wishes

Anna - A3 consent is permission to use premises for sale of food and drink,
as opposed to retail uses, business, etc. A3 consents are the responsibility
of the Council - alcohol licences are separately given by magistrates.
The revised Wandsworth UDP of June 99 was quite upbeat about A3 use ("A3
uses are generally appropriate in principle in most shopping areas in the
Borough...") however "Food and drink uses can, however, be detrimental to
the amenity of an area if inappropriately located, particularly where there
is residential accomodation adjacent, close to or above A3 premises."
A3 consents can, I think often do, define opening hours - I think we might
get A3 consent for the laundramat for a deli/cafe/commumity centre, daytime
only, but evenings and alcohol might be more difficult.

As you may or may not know - the FCN will be organising another Furzedown Festival due to popular demand following the extraordinatory success of our first one this year. (over 700 people took part in a week of activities/events!).
So... I am filling in an application to LB Wandsworth's Arts About Wandsworth scheme again. As the deadline is 8 Jan, I am doing this now over the Xmas break.
The 2002 Festival will be Sat 6 - Sun 14 July - please put this in your diaries and start letting people know eg the local schools, churches, community groups so they can be thinking about how to join in and to make sure they don't put on clashing events but we all harmonise and synchronise our activities. . We plan to have a funday, procession and open air concert again on the first Sat (with lots of wet weather provision just in case). Lotsof scope for other things during the week...arts music, local history and who knows? maybe another talent show????
The first planning meeting for the 2002 Festival will be at my house (111 Ribblesdale Road) at 8pm on Wednesday 23 Jan. Please do come!!! My phone no is 8677 6605 if you need to ring to give your apologies. We need lots of keen organisers to get on board at this early stage - so we can plan everything well ahead. Please tell anyone you know who might be able to help about the meeting - we need new blood and fresh ideas/energies!
We will need to decide a theme for the Festival at this meeting so ideas please!
An extraordinarily happy and successful new year to you all -
John - what is 'A3' ??? Anna

T think a cafe/resource centre is a good idea. Can it be incorporated into the
ideas already put forward for the building on the Rec?

Replying to Anna's call for a focal point/meeting place - many people
locally have racked (?wracked) their brains on this one. Assuming it would
need to be primarily financially a cafe, several have tried and failed with
the rec building and others have been put off by the costs of refurb and
rent. It is badly located for (adult) passing trade. If it is a daytime cafe
in Moyser Road (assuming change of use consent) it would be swamped with
Graveney kids spending as little as possible every weekday lunchtime.
I have had correspondence with Wandsworth about the possibility of change of
use to A3 plus an alcohol licence for a daytime and/or evening cafe in
Moyser Road, which they think would be unlikely on the grounds that all the
shops in Moyser Road are opposite houses (tho this is also true of The
Point). Also because M Road is an Important Local Parade, and they require
to keep a certain proportion of retail outlets. The Borough Planner said 'In
relation to A3 policies I think a daytime only cafe will have the potential
to cause much less nuisance than a late-night facility, and so would be much
less likely to be turned down on amenity grounds...'
This was July 2000, and things may have changed - perhaps another
sub-committee is needed to investigate the possibilities? I'd be happy to
participate.

There is a public notice in the Wandsworth Borough Guardian dated
20th Dec 2001 which is entitled "Furzedown School Safety Zone" and
refers to the traffic calming measures proposed for Moyser Road,
Chillerton Road and Welham Road.
The final date for objections is 10th January 2002. Although I
havenot checked, I assumed that the details can be found on
Wandsworth's own website viz:

I think we need a meeting place/focal point for Furzedown which could be a
cafe on the Rec. I would like to be able to pop out and have coffee and

Others have also said they were promised feedback but have not received it.
We will ask the Chief Officer when we meet with him in January. If you are
interested and have views from residents living in the west area of Furzedown
- Moyser to Southcroft - we would be very interested to hear those views and
pleased if you want to get involved.
Let us know.
Happy Xmas.
Graham Owen
I attended the focus group meeting with 4+4 MR market research and Wandsworth representatives. I have not had any feedback in printed form - which was promised.
I network with neighbours in lower section of Nimrod Road. from Moyser to Southcroft.
I certainly feel some regeneration of the rec ground is overdue.
I am a WBC employee myself with ears to the ground on policy issues.
A Plan for individual submission to a total £500 million Capital pot has been mooted.
I hope that the network will draw some positive thought and concentrate minds to potential development to support local needs.
Glad to hear from you. I have just put on a request for views and ideas on the future of the Recreation ground. Please contribute when you have a moment over Xmas.
Tell your friends and neighbours about the group and encourage them to get involved, especially those who have bought a PC for Xmas!

As you know the Council is reviewing the future of the Rec and has met with local people to canvass opinion.
FCN has arranged to meet with the manager in charge of Wandsworth's parks to put our views to him. This meeting will happen in January 2002.
I would to get views from local people on what they would like to see provided in future in the Rec e.g. games areas for teenagers, a permanent stage area for summer events or better maintenance of the grass and plants? Would you be prepared to pay for any new facilities e.g upgraded tennis courts? or would you prefer all facilities to be free?
Diane,
Good to hear from you and good to know that my Furzedown emailo arrived
somewhere safely!
Have a good Xmas.

Just a quick note to say that I have joined the Furzedown group. Looking
forward to hearing from you all [in moderation!]

Birchwood Road
It's an interesting idea and not without it's merits. They could leave the
speed bumps in for skaters and bmx riders to practice on!
I would imagine that the bulk of traffic going up and down Seely road does
not actually turn fown Ramsdale anyway - I suspect they cutting through from
Southcroft Rd, up Freshwater Road and up to Furzedown Lodge.

I'd be interested in opinions about the proposal to close to traffic
Ramsdale Road between Furzedown Drive and Chillerton Road, so as to 'join'
the two halves of the recreation ground, and make entry and exit from the
children's play area safer. Additionally it would provide a skateboarding
area free of traffic.
Objections might be that it would increase traffic in the top of Crowborough
Road and the middle bit of Chillerton Road, and that it would increase
parking in the Seely Hall part of Chillerton Road during events at the
sports pitches.
There are no houses fronting onto that part of Ramsdale Road.
What do you think?
