Hi.
In the area of editing tools for digital domes, during the SEPA conference last
week in Nashville, we had the occasion to briefly address this same issue of the
rendering times in large compositions.
Some preliminary results regarding, the performance improvement of the new
version of the composition tool for spherical environments, the FullDome Plugin
for After Effects, were presented. Although in relative terms the current
version works fast, very large composition sizes become increasingly difficult
to handle.
The most recent tests point to a large improvement in performance, in the order
of 10 times faster using a conservative estimate. This brings the possibility of
rendering and working on compositions of 4K to 8K using a single computer, like
a notebook. We can even easily envisage a simple and affordable computer where
the performance improvements could be brought to even higher levels.
What is interesting to see is the improvement in the editing itself. A frame is
rendered now in a very short time, so any change or correction can be done
quickly, since the software replies promptly.

Antonio Pedrosa
