Welcome! This is a meeting place for people with big hearts and a desire to help! The Humane Society of the United States estimates between 6-8 million cats and dogs enter shelters each year, with half of those being adopted and the other half euthanized. Tremendous as the problem of pet overpopulation is, it can be solved if each of us takes just one small step, starting with not allowing our animals to breed. Secondly we can help in a number of ways by volunteering at our local animal shelter. Friends of Madera County Animal Shelter (FMAS) is a phenomenal group of like minded individuals brought together by the love for animals. The Madera County Animal Shelter has a number of volunteer opportunities. Volunteer Opportunities Include (but are not limited to): *Photographing and listing pets on petfinder.com *Taking adoptable pets to Petsmart on Sundays *Fostering a pet *Participate in fundraising events *Working directly with the animals to socialize, walk, groom, and play with them *Clerical assistance- Calling on lost and founds, follow-up on adoptions, filing, helping with general office duties. *training dogs under the guidance of a professional dog trainer.
