The Ijoba Shule is a private, independent Afrakan institution located in Philadelphia, PA. Our mission is to teach students to be responsible handlers of power in service to the divine, nation, community and family. We believe that life is meaningless unless it is lived in service to something greater than oneself, hence one of our school mottos: Not for oneself alone. There are four (4) major tenets that support our mission, they are:
1. Character development
2. A values-based, demanding but nurturing academic environment
3. Development of a strong, positive Afrakan identity
4. Nation-building mindset
Our students attend class from 8AM to 4PM Monday through Friday. Subject areas include Reading, Math, Social Studies, Science and Character development in the mornings. We offer a wide range of creative & expressive arts classes after lunch, some of which are Art, Afrakan drum and dance, and various languages.
The Ijoba Shule is governed by the Council of Trustees and Parents Council. We welcome applications from various students with a range of backgrounds, interests, talents and experiences and admit applicants without regard to religion, gender, race, sexual orientation, nationality or ethnic background.
