Friends and Seekers is perfect for new couples or families to attend as their first Sunday School class. The mission of this class centers around couples building relationships while seeking spiritual growth and serving others in Christ. It does not matter if you are strong or weak in your faith, as the name implies, we are 'friends' and 'seekers'. If you seek information about God, Christ and faith, this class welcomes you and will help you answer your questions in a warm and accepting environment. Since 1998, this class has grown from four couples with no children to 47 couples with ~56 kids and we're still welcoming new couples and individuals to the class. Members of our class serve in leadership positions within First Church including the Finance Committee, Church Council, Staff Parish Relations, Children's Ministry, Journeymen, and as Sunday School teachers.
The class has one planning meeting each year to develop a calendar of social events, service projects, hospitality, communications and class studies for the coming year. Our lessons span from 8 to 16 weeks. Classes are taught with real life application in rotation by class members who volunteer to be on the teaching team. Class studies rotate among Bible study, relationships and parenting. In the past years our topics have included: History of Methodism, Effective Prayer, Communicating with Your Kids, Books of the Bible, Gifts and Graces, Troublesome Bible Passages, The Five Love Languages, Traits of a Lasting Marriage and others.
The ladies have a monthly Ladies Night Out and the men have a monthly game night. Many other social activities occur in large groups and smaller groups.
