Hello everyone!

I can't come to the New Years marathon this year and am having two tickets (for
one leader and one follower) to offer.

Does anyone of you know if I should first arrange that with Eric or should I
just offer them?

The tickets are the more expensive ones which you supposingly can pass on.
Anyways, I'm just a little lost with the rules and wouldn't like to go against
them.

I'll take it of course, too disappointed the last year I had to resell

INTRO
In 1992 El Corte started to organize dance events in
August (Hot Summer Nght Salons) and from 1997
on there was the Sunset~Sunrise Salon (also known
as the Salon of the Roses), the open air milonga in the
Goffertpark and a few years later other events were
organized, such as the Thiemepark salon (thanks to
Riette Wijns).
In 2008 Eric and I decided that it was high time to
upgrade the whole summer affaire and give it the
allure of a tango festivalito. So we started planning
the Summerdaze 2010. Here are our plans.

As you can see, there are still some question marks.
Programme is not yet definitive amd changes are possible.

PHILOSOPHY
Our philosophy is to provide both local and international
dancers with an intimate, relaxed atmosphere and keep
it a low budget affaire.
We want you to step into a "hot bath" of dancing, meeting
new dancers, enjoying the sun, having a pick nick in the park,
shop in Nijmegen (Podium dance shoes!), learn some new
moves from our local teachers, meet old friends and have
a lot of fun.

WHAT IS NEW?
There are more opportunities to dance: open dancefloors
in the morning, the dansants in the afternoon, milongas
at night.
Every day (except tuesday) there will be an open dancefloor
in El Corte to start the day with. On saturday there is a
special open dancefloor from 11:00 - 18:00:  DJ Day.
DJ Day is a new element in the Summerdaze. It is a day
where aspirant or beginning tango DJ's can have a go
at DJ-ing in El Corte.
We hope to create an atmosphere which encourages DJ's to
develop themselves, learn from each other and to stimulate
an informal, friendly dialogue between dancers and DJ's.
There are more workshops. Apart from Stefan & Komala,
we will also invite other local teachers from Arnhem and
Nijmegen to teach. Eric (solo?) and Jolanda from 22tango
already agreed to give a workshop.
And last but not least: instead of 4 days, we now offer
6 days of dancing.

Hi (international) Marathon dancers,
On thursday December 31 public
transportation in the Netherlands will
stop at 20:00.
And since the Marathon starts at 22:00,
there are a few hours of waiting, before,
we can enter El Corte with our
danceshoes and self prepared food.
In the last years it became a tradition
to meet each other in the lobby of hotel
Mercure before going to EC.
The adress of Mercure is Stationsplein 29,
6512 AB, Nijmegen.
Hotel Mercure is situated next to the
trainstation and it only takes a five
minute walk from Mercure to El Corte.

This will be my 4th month in Giessen, and also my 4th time in Nijmegen, if I can
find a ride! All my usual suspects are out of town. I have a friend coming from
the USA just to dance in el corte, so if anyone can help me find a ride for him
or us, I would be very grateful.

Oh, I guess then there was a change, was it? I think I have read it in the site
rooms for the marathon were all booked, either places for two people, or for
many. I wrote Eric if I could be in the waiting list and he said many had
already asked that.

Fortunatelly I do have a place to stay, it is a house kindly offered by a
friend, but it is near Germany border.

The only reason I would prefer to stay in El Corte that evening is I wonder the
facility to get taxi this time of the year.

I heard first bust starts at 5 am, maybe better rent a car?

I am leaving a place which is now about 40 degrees above and think I will freeze
if I have to be long time outside! Lol

How do people manage transportation from El Corte to hotels, etc?

  PS REACTION FROM ERIC:
IF you are that far from el corte you will have problems finding taxis, during
the eventful weekend of new year. A lot of dutch people will celebrate in the
city center, getting drunk and than want to head home.

Most of the people stay in hotels at walking distance from el corte or have a
car. So renting one is an idea. Finding another bed is a better option. The
dormitory beds are available during the marathon BUT fully booked indeed.

Just to make sure: there is *no* sleeping at "El Corte" during the 'Marathon
Salon'!!!

There's sleeping at "El Corte" during 'chained salons', during 'xmas-salon',
during 'mayday salon' and 'international week' ... but *not* during the 'New
Year's Marathon'!

For the 'Marathon salon' you have to find sleeping elsewhere: hotel, bed &
breakfast, private stays! I do not know wether 'Hotel Mercure' still has
availability for 31.12.2009 thru 02.01.2010 - but if you give them a call do not
forget to ask for the "El Corte" tango discount!

Good luck finding a place to sleep! C'ya at the Marathon!

tango milonguero is not really Paris specificity. I'm living in Paris, dancing
tango there and still looking for the places to dance milonguero. Not sure
you'll even find people really dancing milonguero (that what milonguero dancers
from abroad told me).

There you'll have a list of the milongas every day

My choice would be
For friday
EL DIVAN
Very small milonga in a turqish café. Usually live music (better check before,
cause they are having hard time this last weeks with finding musicians). Few
dancers and may be not the best, but nice DJ helping you feel at home. So a very
good place to come with friends.
or
RED VELVET
Quite big milonga with 2 dancing floors, in an oldfashion dancing. A lot of
dancers. Good music.

For saturday
LE CHANTIER: it's outside Paris, but easy to reach with metro, and even night
bus. If you can afford to go to bed sunday morning, it's a place you should go.
For me it's a place that will stay in the history of Paris tango (may be I'm
romantic or girly on that one). Don't arrive before midnight, most people arrive
between 01:00 and 02:00 with the last metro.
or
ESPRIT TANGO: may be it's just a little more milonguero, may be. My memory from
the only time I went there is that the wood dancing floor is very noisy.

Have a nice time in Paris and I hope you'll find happyness in our milongas.
