The FSP mission is minimalist, reflected in the Statement of Intent:

"I hereby state my solemn intent to move to the state of New
Hampshire. Once there, I will exert the fullest practical effort
toward the creation of a society in which the maximum role of civil
government is the protection of life, liberty, and property."

By taking a lowest-common-denominator approach, we create a framework
within which other groups can work according to their own preferences.
The NHU, the NHLA, the RLC, and anyone else can recruit people with
messages and styles that appeal to various types of libertarians. The
FSP has the Liaisons

to reach out to people with different interests, e.g. gun freedom,
marriage freedom, or drug freedom.

The FSP, like ice cream, should appeal to all libertarians. There is
no need to insist on one flavor.

If someone wants to take an approach that would effectively re-brand
the FSP, we might ask him to not use the FSP name and logo, and focus
on selling New Hampshire as The Free State.

The theory may work with politicians and operating systems.  Not in real life

I read Scott Adam's original post on the subject in his blog. He's primarily
talking about introducing new products. Lender's and Swanson have been in wide
distribution for many years and have name recognition. Try introducing a new
brand of frozen bagel that lots of people like in a taste test and compete with
Lender's. I wouldn't risk my money investing in that. Read the original post by

I got a request over the summer from a Free Stater living in FL who's been
doing all the right things, but still not having much luck on finding the
right NH position.  I've suggested resume revision, and put out some feelers
with placement folks I know in NH - I mention that so input to her doesn't
cover the same ground over and over.  She's been watching the forums, but I
thought I'd put this out for other Free Staters to eyeball with any personal

candidates in the New Hampshire elections fared.

Joel Winters won, running as a Dem.  All candidates running
as Reps lost.

My personal observation was the large anti-Bush,  the large
vote by young people in our district (1) for Shea-Porter, and
and the lack of a viable candidate at the top of the ticket
doomed our efforts.

In looking at the results, virtually all of these two groups voted
straight Dem.

Perhaps a lesson to be learned by this is we need a better
presence at the colleges and universities, and it is most
difficult to run a campaign from the bottom up.

On a more positive note Joel ran a top notch campaign, and
will represent freedom well in Concord.

Thanks for the info David. There really seems to be no substitute for
excellent organization, presentation and education of the electorate in
running a successful, winnable campaign. (And you had darn well better have
a R or D behind your name.)

We will, for all practical purposes have a brand new
legislature and it is way to early to begin speculating about
their agenda.  My guess is they haven't even set an agenda
yet.  Sweet jesus, the swearing in isn't until next month.

I know all the candidates personally and I know they all gave
a maxium effort.  Loosing our first major statewide skirmish
should not be cause for alarm.  Much has been learned and
if we are smart we will put it to useful purpose as we move
forward.

The encouraging  part as I  see it.  We  will have our first
freestater in the legislature, and this is the first time any of
us could run.

I'm very thankful to Joel and his team, and even more thankful
to call him friend.

We're picking it up again for the upcoming legislative session. The bill against
real ID did pass the house, but the senate killed it because Washington sent
people to put pressure on the GOP members in the senate to pass it. .This time
around they probably won't do that and since more democrats are in there,
they're less likely to listen to republican pressure :) But wére going to exert
our own pressure and hopefully it will fail. We're more likely than any other
state in the Union to bring it down.

We still need to be vigilant, because the Dems probably want this just as
bad as the GOP.  I'll be calling my state legislators about this on the  first
day, and I recommend that everyone do the same, just so that the freshmen  know
that we won't take anything less than complete rejection of real-id.

A few of you may have heard, but I am using facebook to do what I can
to help attain the First 1000 pledge.  If any of you would like to
help, I think it is a great way to do what you can.  It is so easy to
do, and you can do as much or as little as you want, whenever you
want.  You can go to my facebook group called "Free State Project
Facebook Team" ( http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2212837394 ) or

If you don't know anything about facebook, it is a social networking
website (www.facebook.com) that was originally aimed toward college
students but is now open to anyone.  It is still mainly populated by
college students, but they may be the best candidates for the First
1000 pledge anyways since they might not be tied down and more willing
to go on an adventure.  What makes facebook a productive place to
recruit is that most people on facebook put their political stance on
their personal profile, and one of the choices is "libertarian".  And
we all know that libertarians make great candidates for the FSP.  You
can find thousands times more libertarians on facebook then you could
in the same amount of time at a politically homeless booth.  You can
also create and join groups on facebook and their are many issue
oriented groups(legalization of drugs, 100% Free Market, etc) with
thousands of members that would also be great candidates for the FSP.

I  have created FSP facebook group.  You can search for libertarians
or look in an issue oriented group and then send them an invitation to
them to join the FSP group.  You can invite 50-70 people every ten
minutes if you work fast.  100 invitations can be sent at a time all
with special message along with the invitation.  Over 300  invitations
per hour, to self declared libertarians, with a special invitation to
join the FSP and F1K seems like one of the best ways of recruitment to me.

If you still have some questions here are a few more details:
Facebook is setup in networks.  You can find names and pictures of
just about everyone on facebook, but in order to see details about
someone, like their political stance, you must be in their network.
Networks exist by area, by high school, and by college.  There are
also some  networks  for companies.  Since we need people in many
networks, that means that the ideal is to have lots of volunteers
doing a little work instead of a few doing a lot of work.  Now if you
do want to do a lot of work then there is plenty to do because once
you are done with your networks you can work on people from the many
issue oriented groups and also recruit people from other networks to
work on their networks.  In order to invite people that are not your
friend to a group, you must be an administrator.  If you contact me, I
can make you an administrator of the group.

There is actually another FSP facebook group called "Free State
Project" at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2204983906 .  It is
a regular group and has lots of people.  People discuss all types of
things about the FSP there.  I created a different group inorder to be
completely focused on inviting more people.  I am not allowing people
to discuss other things and redirecting those comments to the other
group.  In order for my plan to be successful, I must give
administrator privileges to many people so one reason I created a new
group is so that the regular group would not be jeopardized by having
too many admins.  The goal is to have every libertarian on facebook
invited to join the free state project.
