I think this is very relevant to FSP recruiting. We need passionate
people. It doesn't matter if we are hated by some, as long as others
love us.

If everyone exposed to a product likes it, the product will not
succeed... The reason that a product "everyone likes" will fail is
because no one "loves" it. The only thing that predicts success is
passion, even if only 10% of the consumers have it.

The FSP mission is minimalist, reflected in the Statement of Intent:

"I hereby state my solemn intent to move to the state of New
Hampshire. Once there, I will exert the fullest practical effort
toward the creation of a society in which the maximum role of civil
government is the protection of life, liberty, and property."

By taking a lowest-common-denominator approach, we create a framework
within which other groups can work according to their own preferences.
The NHU, the NHLA, the RLC, and anyone else can recruit people with
messages and styles that appeal to various types of libertarians. The
FSP has the Liaisons
http://freestateproject.org/volunteer/liaisons
to reach out to people with different interests, e.g. gun freedom,
marriage freedom, or drug freedom.

The FSP, like ice cream, should appeal to all libertarians. There is
no need to insist on one flavor.

If someone wants to take an approach that would effectively re-brand
the FSP, we might ask him to not use the FSP name and logo, and focus
on selling New Hampshire as The Free State.

Not exactly the case. Nobody _loves_ frozen bagels or frozem "meals", but I
don't see the Lenders or Swanson companies going out of business anytime soon.

The theory may work with politicians and operating systems. Not in real life
with real products.

My first thought in response is BOCTAOE. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BOCTAOE
see coined phrases)

I read Scott Adam's original post on the subject in his blog. He's primarily
talking about introducing new products. Lender's and Swanson have been in wide
distribution for many years and have name recognition. Try introducing a new
brand of frozen bagel that lots of people like in a taste test and compete with
Lender's. I wouldn't risk my money investing in that. Read the original post by
Scott Adam's.

Thanks to your vote we finished last month in 5th place at Podcast

to double our votes to get to first place.

Please take a moment and vote for Free Talk Live. It only takes a

Hello all.

I got a request over the summer from a Free Stater living in FL who's been
doing all the right things, but still not having much luck on finding the
right NH position. I've suggested resume revision, and put out some feelers
with placement folks I know in NH - I mention that so input to her doesn't
cover the same ground over and over. She's been watching the forums, but I
thought I'd put this out for other Free Staters to eyeball with any personal
contacts they might have.

Here is her resume and contact information:
http://forum.freestateproject.org/index.php?topic=12054.0 . Please email
all responses to her directly. Even if you don't have a position
opportunity to refer to her, even your own success stories in the NH job
search might be encouraging -- if you've been there, you know what the
process (and some HR folks) are like.

Thanks for your attention, and please pardon any redundancies. I can't keep
track of which "doers" are on one list but not another.

Joel Winters won, running as a Dem. All candidates running
as Reps lost.

My personal observation was the large anti-Bush, the large
vote by young people in our district (1) for Shea-Porter, and
and the lack of a viable candidate at the top of the ticket
doomed our efforts.

In looking at the results, virtually all of these two groups voted
straight Dem.

Perhaps a lesson to be learned by this is we need a better
presence at the colleges and universities, and it is most
difficult to run a campaign from the bottom up.

On a more positive note Joel ran a top notch campaign, and
will represent freedom well in Concord.

Thanks for the info David. There really seems to be no substitute for
excellent organization, presentation and education of the electorate in
running a successful, winnable campaign. (And you had darn well better have
a R or D behind your name.)

By the way, the FSP article at Time Magazine is now the second most emailed
piece of the week, and appears on the front page of the Time web site.

There is an existing FSP-BusinessBuilder list, but the owner was
missing in action, it was spammed, and frankly, it's been a dead list.

I've created a new list at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FSP-Business

This is NOT a political discussion list, nor a place to argue over
anything else.
This is about making business connections, finding employment/employees, etc.
From the description: "It is for participants and friends of the Free
State Project that are interested in networking with others to work
together, and do business with others of similar pro-liberty
mindsets."

Please feel free to pass this onto others... the list will be lightly
moderated, and troublemakers will be heavily moderated.

Well, not quite... but most anyone with a R on the ballot had a large
target on their backs, and the bloodbath took out incumbents in many
places. The NHLA endorsement list was 132 people, 75 were elected.
Yes, _even_ with the tidal wave, 75 pro-liberty folks were elected.
That's almost 20% of the House. Not a majority by any means, but a
good sized voice of freedom.

The doom and gloomers will tell you that all is lost. It's not true.

Yes, a smoking ban is going to pass. But REALID _will_ die here in
New Hampshire, starting a domino effect elsewhere.
Yes, minimum wage increases are likely to pass. But so is medical
marijuana.
Yes, we must be on the alert against efforts to raise taxes. But we
can make real progress on some pro-liberty issues as well.

Plenty more I could rant on, but the idea is clear: this is not the
death of the Free State, but will help it move forward, and even gain
more local support than ever.

I stand corrected, "All freestaters who ran as R's lost."

We will, for all practical purposes have a brand new
legislature and it is way to early to begin speculating about
their agenda. My guess is they haven't even set an agenda
yet. Sweet jesus, the swearing in isn't until next month.

I know all the candidates personally and I know they all gave
a maxium effort. Loosing our first major statewide skirmish
should not be cause for alarm. Much has been learned and
if we are smart we will put it to useful purpose as we move
forward.

The encouraging part as I see it. We will have our first
freestater in the legislature, and this is the first time any of
us could run.

I'm very thankful to Joel and his team, and even more thankful
to call him friend.

We're picking it up again for the upcoming legislative session. The bill against
real ID did pass the house, but the senate killed it because Washington sent
people to put pressure on the GOP members in the senate to pass it. .This time
around they probably won't do that and since more democrats are in there,
they're less likely to listen to republican pressure :) But wére going to exert

We still need to be vigilant, because the Dems probably want this just as
bad as the GOP. I'll be calling my state legislators about this on the first
day, and I recommend that everyone do the same, just so that the freshmen know
that we won't take anything less than complete rejection of real-id.

The bill against real ID did pass the house, but the senate killed
it because Washington sent people to put pressure on the GOP members
in the senate to pass it. .This time around they probably won't do
that and since more democrats are in there, they're less likely to
listen to republican pressure :) But wére going to exert our own
pressure and hopefully it will fail. We're more likely than any
other state in the Union to bring it down.

From the horse's mouth:
http://www.sos.nh.gov/general2006/after_november_7.htm

Other dates of note:
* Friday, December 8, 2006, 3:00 pm: Last day to file House LSRs
(bills-to-be) with complete information.
* Friday, January 19, 2007, 3:00 pm: Last day to sign off all House LSRs.

"Real action" starts late in January.

We'll be sending out notices as developments happen, and as we
organize "Field Trips" to the House. These are working trips, where
you meet members of legislature one-on-one, and observe the actual
goings-on. We'll also be organizing training sessions on how to be
effective when testifying before committees, and extremely powerful
action open to all New Hampshire residents.

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to revive the FSP meetings & FSP activism in general here
in Utah. I've recently moved to South Jordan, so I'm close enough to
other Utahns now that I can actually get this thing moving.

If you or anyone you know is a FSP or friendly towards the FSP, and
would be interested in getting together for an FSP meeting, please
send me an email so we can get this thing started.

And join the Utah FSP group :)

For some reason my response to this got lost.

Anywho, what I was wondering is if the GOP losses are a good thing
for killing the REAL ID.

The reason I'm wondering, is while the Senate Republicans betrayed
the people of NH, it was the House Republicans who got the bill there
in the first place.

Why did no one tell me about the Free Lunch Project? True choice requires
options, and now we have them...

PS: Thank you to Seth, David, Denis, et al for providing us with news from
the ground. It's great to hear about the action.

Originally it started as a joke on the NH Underground forums, then I
guess they actually made a website about it.
