ets all welcome our newest member and make him feel at home in our club.
Welcome, LIAMGUS...I hope that you are happy here and I hope that you will
become very active in the club...
Slan
see that we have been speaking of Mr.
Paisley...what an evil bastard he is, huh?? Like Eberfinn said,
it is almost as if he were Oliver come back to haunt
the Irish...keep up the posting people...this is
starting to get really good!!!!
Slan!
ow Ian Paisley is EVIL! It's almost as if he
aspired to be as evil as Oliver Cromwell whose propaganda
against the Irish included the interesting information
that Irishmen had tails six inches long! (His
massacres at Drogheda and Wexford read like pages of Nazi
atrocities in Poland and the Ukraine.)
By the way, great
posts by everyone. It's good to see this place coming
alive.
ully, agree w/your post about the Brits being
power hungry. Definitely a control factor - they have
sooo much to lose if the north/south are reunited.
Just caught up on reading some recent news and was
reminded that people like Ian Paisley will be a thorn in
the side of Irish Nationalists for a long time to
come. I can't believe that one man can have so much
hatred stored within.
i Sully & Welcome. Responding to your query about the great state of PA. Born
& drug up in Philly. Grandfather hails from Bellaghy, Co Derry; therein lie my
Irish roots.
hanks for the great welcome! I AGREE with your
comments that the Brits are power hungry. It is not the
average joe but rather the aristocracy. I'm not sure but
I would guess that the only people wanting the
Brits to stay in Northern Ireland are those still
living there. To change the subject, if you like Irish
authors read anything by Edna O'Brien. Great fiction!
t is a true pleasure to have you in our little
club...maybe things are looking up and our club will cease to
be quite so little!!! be sure to remain active...I
visit this club everyday and i look forward to hearing
ALL comments.
Slan
apolean fighting with the Irish?! We would have
been out of the British stronghold long ago if that
had been the case... too bad he was such a
power-hungry villain!! In response to something Eberfinn said
earlier, no, the British as a people are not evil...after
all look at all the good that Britain has given the
world: the Beatles, Princess Diana, America(if you
really think about it, America, while founded to escape
British tyranny, was founded by British men.) No,
Eberfinn, they are not evil people. But they are powerful
and too many times in history they have abused that
power. The Irish have been the brunt of that for
centuries (along with the Scots, by the way.) There has
always been prejudice towards our people...they were
always thought to be disgusting, dirty creatures.
British hate mongers still carry on that legacy to this
day. They are that way because they feel that Ireland
belongs to them and therefore they have divine rights
against the Irish people who would protest British
involvement on Irish land. All I am saying is that while
Ireland would be in a turmoil for God knows how long, in
the long run, she would be better off if Britain
would just pack up and move on their way. We crazy
Irish are fighters; we are survivors... Ireland should
be given the chance to be totally free and united
under one flag!!!!!Erin Go Bragh!!!!!
he Rising of '98 started on May 24th and was
over when Wolfe Tone died on November 12th, so
technically, we're a little late. But if you'd still like to
do something to commemorate it, I'm game.
You
know, one of my favorite anecdotes about the '98 is
about Napoleon. He had promised Tone he'd send an
expeditionary force to Ireland in May of 98 to help get the
Brits out, but before the date approached Lord Edward
Fitzgerald (the Commander-in-Chief)was finally captured and
killed. Napoleon at this point abandoned the Irish cause
and set out on his Egyptian campaign. Later Napoleon
expressed bitter regret for this act. He intimated that if
he had chosen Ireland instead of Egypt, the current
of history would have been radically changed! Can
you imagine? Napoleon fighting with the Irish against
the English?
nybody have any comments on the fact that there are certain elements in the
British government currently seeking full immunity for the soldiers involved in
Bloody Sunday?
think the reason the Brits haven't left is
exactly because it would cause havoc. Contrary to popular
belief the English, as a whole, are not evil. Certain
individuals and governments in their history have been evil,
but people are people. It's a different time with
different views on the world. I do believe that there are
still hate mongers out there in the British government
and in Northern Ireland, but they do not represent
the whole of their people.
agreed with your comments on the peace talks in
Northern Ireland. Actually considering the actions the
English have taken in Ireland, I'm surprised they haven't
left. That way they could cause havoc and not take
responsibility. My family came from counties Clare and Kerry
during the famine. They settled in Penn. and worked for
the railroads and lumber companies. Any others from
that state? Thanks for letting me join. The
conversations were interesting to read.
ia Duit!!!!
Our good friend Cait has brought
up a very good point...the bicentennial of the
Rising of '98 is at hand... any suggestions on how we
might have our own little commemoration within the club
would be most welcome. C'mon, you crazy Irish
people...don't stop now...lets build this club!!!!!!!!
Slan
oint well taken. Hopefully, we can all express
how we feel about the events in Ireland and get a
really good board going here. Unfortunately, I haven't
had time to read about the recent events and feel I
should know what's going on before I "spout off".

Don't forget - this the the 200th Anniversary of the
Rising of '98. Any suggestions on how we could
commemorate that within the club?????

Cait
K, people, what's going on? are the holidays
gettin' to ya? Why are we all of a sudden losing
interest? our newest member has already left, probably from
the lack of activity going on...I know it can be hard
to check on your club everyday, but once every
couple of days, it would be nice for some of you to come
in and see what is going on...myself and eberfinn
have seemingly taken over the message board...we are
the only two who talk!!!!!! i want to see posted
messages, people!!! this is YOUR club. take care of it.
that is all i have to say.
Slan
hings have been rather hectic lately and I have
been very busy...I have started doing a bit of
research so that I may better answer your questions, but I
have not completed yet...Please be patient and I
promise I'll get back to you as soon as possible...I hope
to see you in the chat room on Saturday
afternoon.
Slan,
Jameson
o need to justify your criticizm at all, Eber
Finn. I took no offense to any of your posts...and I'm
sure that none of our other members did either. That
is what I designed this club for...I want to hear
everyone's point-of-view. I wish all my members were as
vocal as you...Thank you for showing such an interest
in my club. It's people like you that are going to
make this thing successful. Erin Go Braugh, my
friend.
Slan,
Jameson
just wanted to clarify that I'm not into
preaching to people or converting them to my way of
thinking. My previous posts do look that way, but I'm
usually pretty laid back. I had just noticed a few things
in some previous posts that looked a little
borderline militant and thought I should give a devil's
advocate point of view.
Slan.
he English have committed great evils on our
people. There can be no denying, excuses, or forgetting
of that fact. But I also believe that the English
have wanted out of Ulster for quite some time now. It
is a thorn in their side. A constant reminder of
past misdeeds. It is their karma rearing its head and
bitting them on the arse! But they can't simply leave.
It's gone too far for that. They made this mess
centuries ago and now they must find a way to clean it up.
Imagine if they did just leave in the night, what
would happen? Would Ireland suddenly become united
under the tri-color flag? Would peace and harmony reign
as children ran through the meadows chasing rainbows
and leprechauns? No. That is a very naive concept.
This is the real world and it just isn't that simple.
Remember, it's Irish fighting Irish up there. We tend to
think of it more like Irish fighting British, but the
reality is that it's a civil war. If the British were to
pull out we would have the exact same situation except
that this time there would be no British to keep what
little peace they currently do and there would be a lot
of angry and betrayed Loyalists looking to take it
out on someone.
That's why I think the current
peace process is the best option Ulster has. By setting
up new bodies of government the British are allowing
for the north to feel a degree of self governing
thereby weening them a bit. They are also setting up some
institutions to strengthen ties with the South and allow
Ireland to function as one island in many respects. I
believe that all this will lead inevitably to a United
Ireland. Once the north sees that not only will they be
alright without the UK, but actually better off with the
Republic there will be no way to avoid union.
ia Duit!! check your calenders because next
Saturday at 3:00p.m. Eastern time there is a scheduled
chat to which i have designed to have the club members
become a little more acquainted with each other and to
express any views they might have. I hope to see you
there!

Slan
es Eber Finn, I too believe that a "war" against
Britain may be disastrous, that's not what I want to see
at all. I want to see their rule over N. Ireland
diminished, however. Then and only then, will Ireland be able
to be reunited in all their splendor. The Irish have
suffered much under British rule. It is time to put an end
to the tyranny. And any who believe that they aren't
tyrants, just read the history books...they have been
tyrrannical since the days of the Anglo-Saxons. I hope to see
this settled without any violence, but if fighting is
the only way, then so be it. Ireland Forever!!! Slan
lease help me. I am not sure about where the
Shankhill Road and the Sandy Row are situated in relation
to the Falls Road. I am also curious about whether
or not the Clonard District and the Springfield Road
are in the Falls area. And, I would also like
assurance on if or if not what I understand is true, if all
of the following streets: Kashmir Road, Bombay
Street, Cawnpore Street, Lucknow Street and Benares
Street are all in the Falls area as well. PLEASE EMAIL
ME FOR A RESPONSE at these addresses, U2pia@...,
Moriarty4@... or Moriarty255@...! I would be very grateful
if I could also be given information about Belfast
in the summer of 1969.
hanks all for your interest...I haven't written for a few days because I'm away,
but I'll be back Friday and look forward to talking with you
then.

Jameson1775
ia Duit. I just joined this club and thought it
a good idea to introduce myself. I too yearn for
the days of old. I believe that it is inevitable that
some day we will all see a united Ireland. But I think
it important to stay in the right frame of mind. I
don't think it is an end to British rule that should be
sought, so much as a uniting of Ireland. I know it sounds
like the same thing (and basically it is), but it is
the difference between being a positive or negative
force. It is like hitting someone out of anger or
hitting them out of love. Either way, you still hit them,
but their is a difference. So you can choose to fight
against the British or for Ireland. All we have to do is
look to history (this century alone!) to see the
results of fighting against the British. I think the
current peace process (threatening to collapse every day)
is Ireland best hope. And I believe that it is a
step toward what we've been fighting for all this
time--a united free Ireland.

Slan, Eber Finn.
lot of cool links have been added for any who
want to learn more on their own about the history of
the struggle, or of Ireland in general, including
links on Celtic history and Irish cultural arts. Check
them out!!
hanks for your words of welcome. And as far as
being "some dumb kid" well I was all of 15/16 y/o when
I took my own interest in Ireland and the North. A
word of advice from "an old broad" age is but a state
of mind. Look forward to growing with the club and
new insights on the situation across the
water.

Slan,

Cait
am glad to see my newly found club slowly
beginning to grow. It is a refreshing thought that you
don't think I'm some dumb kid who's trying to stir up a
crowd. email me sometime and let me know your thoughts.
Erin Go Bragh, my Irish friend!
n addition to my opening message, I would like
to amphasize the fact that this is not a political
campaign of violence or terrorism. It is also not an
attack of any kind against the British population or the
Protestant religion. I am not in th Irish Republican Army,
nor do I agree with many of their tactics. If you are
wondering what this picture represents, this is a picture
of a Celtic prince; it signifies my belief that
Ireland and N. Ireland should be united under one flag
and one government (NOT THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT) and
that their culture should be revived to the glory of
the ancient Celts. I'm really serious about all of
this and I'm really excited to meet others who share
my feelings. Please join soon!!! Thank you!
