Description

This group was originally created to disseminate information surrounding the arrest and detention of Dr. Saad Eddin Ibrahim and the Ibn Khaldun co-defendants by the Egyptian Security Police in June of 2000. The State Security arrest, trials and convictions were clear attempts by some in Egypt to silence human rights groups and stifle the development of civil society.
Five years later the Security Police are at it again, arresting opposition party leader Ayman Nour on unsubstantiated charges. In the current environment of political hope across the Mideast, we will again use this site and email list-serv to disseminate voices in support of the democratization movement in Egypt.
