YOU SAY THE BILLIONAIRES HAVE STOLEN YOUR FUTURE?      by Dick Eastman      It is a bitter pill for middle-class baby boomers that their parents are dying without seeing the fabulous future which they once reasonably expected would emerge, certainly by now, from  their years of collective sacrifice and toil.        No one can deny that some marvels have been developed more or less as predicted fifty years ago.  Consider, for example, the ease, speed and reliability with which computers gain access to incredibly informative websites and newsgroups .  Nevertheless, one need only peruse a few old magazines to see how very far today's world falls short of the old prospective "World of Tomorrow" our parents and grandparents were living to see.      Pick up a 1968  edition of McCall's magazine and you will find the entry  form for a chance to win a voucher for an all-expense-paid trip to the moon with first-class lunar hotel accommodations, redeemable in 2001.  Open a 1950ąs copy of Forbes and read John von Neumann predicting that by 1980 all power  likely would be virtually costless and  that by 2000 the weather would be scientifically tamed for the benefit of farmers everywhere--not bothering to consider the  use international commodity speculators might make of such technology if they secretly got it first.  Gaze at the fascinating cover art of an old issue of Mechanics Illustrated and read the caption, as I recall: "Robots will be Waiting on You by 1970."  Finally--if the poignancy is not already too unbearable -- peer into a 1966 issue of American Home and find the following:       "By the turn of the next century only 10 percent       of us will be engaged in 'work.'   The computer       and automation will relieve us of drudgery and       allow 90 percent to spend time on whatever pleases       them.  The machines will do the work, create the       wealth which will allow every family to follow the       leisure path.       "...the computer-financed economy will provide       families with a guaranteed annual income, with       cash to buy their own computer system.       "...One expert has predicted, ąWith the machines       taking on the tasks that now that now consume all       but a fragment of our days, we will be free to       undertake completely new tasks, most of them       directed to perfecting ourselves, creating beauty,       understanding one another better.ą˛      "Certainly opportunities for further education,       development of talents in art, music, design,       writing, will proliferate.  The home-centered       skills--gardening, cooking, sewing--will be       approached not as make-work but as great works.       ...We will want to create our own art forms       and become artists at home."      How tragic that the average American adult today has 30 percent less leisure time than the day those words were written;  that at this moment millions of people, too tired and otherwise constrained to enjoy once normal social lives, fill their spare minutes with autistic sexuality (catch the euphemism here) fanned by curvacious pattens flashing on cathode-ray tubes or by hot-button words carried over Alexander Graham Bell's somewhat older invention, as the  controlling few rake in the cash.    The mind simply boggles at this and plentiful other evidence of the  gigantic larceny that, blasting all dreams of futurity, has plunged the worldąs  middle classes into  todayąs debt-slavery backwash; the predictably non-utopian result of trying to tread standard-of-living water in foredoomed labor-service competition with the throw-away New Coolies of the billionairesą 'global plantation.'      How is it that we have inherited this world that we never wanted, a world more resembling C.M. Kornbluth's vision (in his 1953 novel, The Syndic) of a society shaped and directed by organized-crime and aiming only at affording  maximum individual sovereignty to its łfriends?˛  ('Individual sovereignty' is Lord Rees-Mogg's honorific term for the liberty of billionaires  no longer bridled by governments of the people, by the people,... etc.)  What happened?      Ironically enough, it was  H.G. Wells,  the twentieth century's leading apostle of Mankind's potential for a limitless future, who 50 years ago fully answered that question. During the first half of this century he assiduously championed the idea of 'putting things in order' for the speedy attainment of a highly desirable worldwide scientific utopia.  But Wells was also a well-connected and astute more-populist-than-Fabian social critic and the first popularizer of nonchauvinistic history from a species perspective, a vantage point from which he eventually came to see the darker fate overtaking his civilization. His last two books, are, unfortunately, his most prophetic.      In his 1939 book, The Future of Man (in the USA; it is The Future of Homo Sapiens elsewhere), Wells explained how the Anglo-American elites had recently grabbed the reigns of the collapsing liberalized world order of his time--that great, good, but never-fully perfected achievement of nineteenth-century optimism and good will-- and did so for their own self-serving-and-to-hell-with-everyone-else ends:      "The disintegrating British Empire is now, one has to       recognize, a system of government almost completely       out of popular control.  Practically it has undergone       a reactionary revolution in the last decade, and a       loose-knit combination of court, church, army and       wealth, intensely class conscience, intensely       self-protective, has resumed control of affairs.  It       is an oligarchy skillful in assimilation of useful       or formidable individuals but without the slightest       disposition to amalgamate with anything else on       earth.  Its ruling motive is fear of dispossession.       Decisions of peace and war are made without       consulting any surviving popular will, and the       whole capitalist press, the cinema, the radio       and indeed all possible means of influencing       opinion, concentrate upon the assertion of the       rightness and inevitableness of these decisions.       Dissent is a muffled and ineffective squeaking,       and any inconvenient facts are kept from the       public by requests for suppression that are in       effect commands."      Such a development, spells death to any hope of the majority of mankind to live any kind of rewarding personal-achievement oriented middle-class life.  In his last book, Mind at the End of its Tether (1945),  Wells 'signs off' with these words:       "Homo Sapiens in his present form is played out.  The       stars in their courses have turned against him and he       has to give place to some other animal better adopted       to face the fate that closes in more swiftly upon       mankind. ...The cinema sheet (i.e., screen --DE) stares       us in the face...  Our loves, our hates, our wars and       battles are no more than phantasmagoria dancing on       that fabric, themselves as unsubstantiated as a dream.       ...There is no way through the impasse.   It will be       the Dark Ages over again, a planetary instead of a       European Dark Ages. ...Mankind, which began in a       cave and behind a windbreak, will end in the       disease-soaked ruins of a slum."      The point of the present essay is not, as Well's final words might suggest, that we give up and trust fabled space aliens to genetically engineer mankind's more-promising replacement.  Nor is it that we must avenge our betrayed parents by killing off the billionaires, as not a few today doubtless privately contemplate.  Rather, we must attack the root of why our future was lost and do what must be done to get it back again.  To that end I conclude with these words, written at about the same time as those of Welląs above, the creed of  a little man who excelled even Wells as a true friend of mankindąs future:       "Exploitation of the poor can be extinguished not by       effecting the destruction of a few millionaires, but       by removing the ignorance of the poor and teaching       them to non-cooperate with their exploiters.˛       "The moment the slave resolves that he will no       longer be a slave, his fetters fall.  He frees       himself and shows the way to others.  Freedom       and slavery are mental states.  Therefore the       first thing is to say to yourself, ąI shall no       longer accept the role of a slave.  I shall not       obey orders as such but shall disobey when they       are in conflict with my conscience.O  The       so-called master may lash you and try to force       you to serve him.  You may say, łNo, I will not       serve you for your money or under threat.˛  This       may mean suffering.  Your readiness to suffer will       light the torch of freedom which will never be put       out." Dick Eastman tells why you all don't understand the FED -- how it is merely a tool of evil that will continue to thrive after the FED is replaced by the upgrade they have been preparing.  This is the posting on the Fed you need to read.  -- DE   It's time the anti-FED forces really understood how the FED is only one component of a much greater life-draining  scam.   My Two-Loop Theory    by Dick Eastman M.S., M.A.   The important matter is not gold backing or gold itself as the national currency.  Monetarism -- pick any token and establish it in the proper way to condition it as a positive reinforcer effective that figures in their exchanges with other people and it will be money -- and its supply and demand can be altered by those who have exclusive issue of this token system.   But what is important today is the existence of  1) a credit monopoly; 2) a two-class financial system -- what I called two-loop system in my writings of the late 1990's.    The global elite are international and they own the debt of the world.  The Fed is the institution.  It is the link between the elite international loop and the domestic debt-slavery tax-slavery loop of M1 money. (The plebian loop is that of the domestic commercial banks, their regulation by the Fed, their system for creating demand deposits by making loans under a fractional reserve system and the ability to borrow from the Fed at the discount window.)  The international banks are free of all the laws that constraign the domestic (plebian) loop.  Because international banks are unregulated by the authorities  -- the elite loop (Money Power, international finance, called investment banks or merchant banks) live with completely different interest rates at which they borrow and at which they lend.   The internationalist can receive an deposit rate (when they maintain liquidity) of say 8.75 percent but have a loan rate that is very very very little higher than that 8.758 let us say  -- the London interbankm offer rate.)   Thus there is almost no spread between the international "offshore"  rate at which internationally held dollars outside the domestic loop are borrowed by the elite and the international "offshore" rate at which they can receive money on their deposits.  But here is where the blade touches our necks:  While the elite international financier can both borrow at approximately the same interest rate  -- the ruling elite have regulated the US domestic economy so their is a gigantic spread between the best interest rate on a deposit and the best interest rate on a loan. The lowest borrowing rate at which the best (plebian) credit can borrow  is the U.S. Prime Rate (for their best corporate customers) and the best rate someone locked in the plebian loop can get on a deposit is the US Certificate of deposit rate.  So we see how the international elite can make their money -- and it isn't only by "making money out of air" with the fractional reserve money multiplier.  They have created -- by regulation since they own the Congress -- a domestic financial system that creates a great spread between what the people can earn in interest  on deposits of their money and what they must pay in interest to get a loan even at the best rate.  Yet every day the international banker can get his international dollars (and there are a lot more dollars outside the loop in the hands of the international money power than there are in the the purchasing power starved plebian loop of the domestic debt-slave and tax slave economy.   The international financier can borrow from London merchant bankers' rate and always lend out in the plebian US domestic loop for signficantly less.  But on the same day the same financier can borrow money from the domestic loop  US Certificates of Deposit bought from the FED (which interconnects the two loops) and lend it to the US domestic debt slaves at the U.S prime rate or even better rates (mortgages etc.  -- one reason  why mortgages have been securitized  btw.)   So, rather than the financial elite being great entrepreneurs and developers of the world economy  -- they just the opposite of course -- they have bought Congress and devised this system creating an artifical spread  between deposit rates and lending rates (in efficient unregulated markets this spread would not exist, just as it does not exist in the economic environment of international finace -- the spread is insigificant, showing efficient unhampered markets only for the elite)   -- so the international financial masters can alway borrow from the elite loop at much lower rates than they can lend that money in the US domestic loop  and they can get interest on deposits at a much higher rate than people in the domestic US economy (buying US Certificates of Deposit.)   Now we know that the FED owns a lot of US debt.  These holdings are bought and sold in open market operations at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. These open market operations are the real power of the money elite over the US economy.  The power of the Federal Reserve is not the Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board -- he is just an errand boy.  And the twelve Federal Reserve Board bank presidents are nothing.  The Fed open market committee has a little power - but only under supervision of the greater power I shall mention next.   The FOMC can change the discount rate (a minor tool -- called by the media "the Fed setting the interest rate"  -- when the rate set is only the loan rate between the Fed and the commercial banks of the domestic system. The FOMC meets only eight times a year.  It is not the center of policy and power.   The real power resides with a small group of investment bankers and with the President of the New York Federal Reserve Bank and in particular with Open Market Account Manager and his staff consisting of staffers loyal only to the merchant bankers. The open market operations are decided by them and they inform the FOMC what they have done.  That is how it really works.  The directors of each Federal Reserve Bank -- who were supposed to be the governors of the system when the system was sold to us in 1912 -- are locked out of these decisions as are Federal Advisory Council.  (As powerless as the US presidents cabinet in forming foreign policy, for example.)   Yes, the member banks "own" the Fed, but the ownership is purley symbolic -- in fact. de facto, a public relations lie.    Remember, the powr of the money elite over the United States is the power of the investment bankers of the elite loop to  switch buy and sell securities with the FED in open market operations.  The policy is that the domestic loop is kept on starvation rations and the elite loop has all the money it wants to invest around the world (but never here) simply by selling its securites to the Fed for cash which it then uses abroad.  And the US pays interst on those securities with taxes.  The tax system is not needed to fund government, but to fund the predations of the interntaional financial elite  -- including their investments in China --with our savings (long gone) and our tax money.   They fleece us by this money machine in the internaitonal loop --our debt slavery and our tax slavery and our credit starvation and capital starvation and purchasing power starvation stem from this system.    This is how it works.  I have studied the subject from the viewpoint of the average American citizen -- which no one else familiar with the banking system ever seems to do  -- and I have passed my findings on to you.  I have shown you your slavery.  Now you can get back to wondering whether Hillary or Obama will run against McCain -- as if either of those three have either a clue to the problem or the slightest inclination to free you from this vampire.  Not even Ron Paul has shown that he understands how the present system dominates the country.  A gold system is not the answer.  Populist government is the answer.   All I can suggest politically is that you join me in attempting to draft Bob Bowman.   Dick Eastman Yakima, Washington     ================================================ BOB BOWMAN WILL BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNTIED STATES -- Now you say it. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/frameup/message/26045 ================================================     In 2003 I wrote:    Derivatives are a way that financial insiders could take the whole price structure collapse and shift the burden to the rest of us. Under Greenspan and during the Presidencies of Reagan, Bush and Clinton, the Fed has been holding M2 and M3 (each of which includes M1 monies, but then adds the wide transactions money-supply components used the multinational-loop transactions of of elite institutions. Iąm talking about money market deposit accounts and general purpose money market mutual funds, but more important, the overnight Eurodollar deposits issued to US residents from foreign US banks and, most powerful of all the overnight and continuing contract REPURCHASE AGREEMENTS. These are the privileged money-supply components that the middle class never gets to touch. What owner of a vacuum-cleaner repair shop or a machine shop parks his łexcess liquidity˛ at a commercial bank in the form of a short-term loan to the bank, with a REPO, redeemable the next day for principle and interest? And which middle class guy with łan idea for a better mouse trap˛ gets to borrow that cash? By the way, donąt be fooled by the łovernight˛ aspect of these loans. The banks accepting these loans know that they can count on sufficient łparked money˛ each and every night to permit highly significant, i.e., huge, loans on the basis of them. This is a source of money that the little łbuilding and loan association˛ managed by łgood olą George Bailey˛ could never touch for the residents of Bedford Falls (the character in Frank Capraąs populist film of pre-WWII Americana: łItąs a Wonderful Life.˛) The REPO is a computer data entry that, for all practical purposes is money. I am telling you that the elite have their own private loop for their own less-regulated AND more-privileged monies. It is these monies of the elite that are the components of money-supply definitions of M2 and M3 within the definition of M2 and M3 that have expanded as the M1 component has been shrinking. (In other words, the relative share of M1 has been shrinking against the REPOąs and CDąs within M2 and M3.) Thus M2 appears to be stable, to be łheld relatively constant,˛ ostensibly to łkeep inflation under control˛ in the manner of monetarists. This money circulates in the multinational corporate and financial realms of Wall Street, not in your home town or backwater state. (WHY are some states backwater states?; a related topic for another time.)--and when it is spent it is spent on new factories on the Communist mainland of China, or a new Wal Mart that will put łMa and Pa˛ stores of your home town OUT OF BUSINESS. (Ma and Pa spend their PROFITS in your town; Wal Mart sends its profits to Arkansas. Get it? The Waltons (billionaires) get the profits that used to go to middle-class mom and pop. (Ma can be seen today offering you free samples of cheese spread as an a senior-citizen employee of Wal Mart. (I am not knocking Wal Mart. Iąm just saying that the capital for those giant stores came from a lending source unavailable to Ma and Pop. And before someone tells me that Wal Mart is better than Ma and Pa; letąs switch our example to restaurants. Could your grandmother cook a better meal than McDonalds? Then why hasnąt she driven McDonalds out of business? Maybe she does not belong to the little circle of pals on the closed investment loop, closed to little guys that is. At this point we need to consider the effects of a monetary contraction. The 1929 crash destroyed a third of the money supply. That monetary contraction (caused by the mass calling in of bank loans to meet the cash demands brokerage houses that investors meet their margins (they had bought stock on credit during the good times) plus downward rigidity of wages (there is less money circulating and lower prices at the stores but no one cuts wages to bring them into balance with other depressed prices--they settle for firing a third of the work force instead, so that those who kept their jobs now have their old wage and lower prices in the store. That is why those who kept their jobs in the Great Depression where much better off than before, as one can see by comparing the average home build in the twenties with the average home of the 30ąs. (And I think the massive margin calls by brokerage firms was deliberate--why else would Winston Churchill have been on Wall Street that day? (Britain needed the crash because Churchill, the Chancellor of the Exchequer had set the gold content of the Pound too high considering the weakened economic condition of Britain after WW1; Wall Street Relatives were willing to help out, and wipe out a lot of their competition from middle-class businessmen at the same time.) It is true. It is as John C. Calhoun said back in 1836: łA power has risen up in the government greater than the people themselves, consisting of many and various and powerful interests, combined into one mass, and held together by the cohesive power of the vast surplus in the banks.˛ Today such a vast surplus exists, but only for the benefit of those with access to the privileged money-circulation loop. The elite-serving media denies that the middle class is hurting. The truth is the upper income groups have had great growth in income and wealth accumulation, the poor are slightly better off (except for their prospects of entering the middle class someday), but the middle has been hollowed out. Real wages of the middle class are dropping in the Clinton "boom." Think of the manufacturing jobs (the łelite of the blue collar˛ jobs) gone to China. Think of the middle-management jobs eaten up by mergers and downsizing (increasing monopolistic concentration of firms). Think of the Ph.D.'s driving cabs. Think of the burger-flipping jobs awaiting college graduates. Think of the small businesses that have vanished due to Wal Mart and a middle class that can no longer afford their advantages. Think of the designer tee-shirts that pass for fashion. (It is amazing how the servitors of the Establishment can conceal our own impoverishment from us. (Kids today have no clue how good it once was for the typical person). And the gains of the poor are not moves towards the middle class but toward greater dependency: more transfer payments (the result of vote buying) and benefits at the expense of middle-class, not fat-cat, taxpayers. (A good example of the deception is the way legislators call an increase in the minimum wage "middle-class legislation."--unless the middle-class teens on their first jobs are all the middle class they are talking about)--the minimum wage increases ruin small-business restaurants for example. The point is, that is small potatoes as help for the middle class. There is an identity recognized by all economists which can be simply stated as MV = PQ. Which means that the money exchanging hands in a year (MV) equals the total of receipts for goods and services (PQ). M= money supply, V=velocity, P=price of goods and services. Q equals the goods and services purchased. (P can be thought of as an average or index or, or a mathematical vector and so can Q). Now velocity (V) is fairly constant due to institutional factors such as: 1)the fact that we are usually paid every two weeks or every month; 2)that we usually receive government transfer payments every month etc.--so if EVERYONE was paid every month V would equal 12, get it?) But if V is constant than MV = PQ means PQ is a function of money supply (M) alone.. But a change in M can affect either P (meaning inflation or deflation) or Q (meaning more or less economic pie, a change in the standard of living as measured by consumption of goods and services). If M has been shrinking we must have either deflation (P goes down) or people ending up worse off (Q goes down). Now the question is: Should the Federal Reserve use M1 as the money supply it watches or one of the wide-transactions definitions, M2 or M3, the equation MV = PQ? Milton Friedman suggested and argued for M1 and Greenspan says he łsometimes˛ looks at M2, but has definitely stopped monitoring M1. But if M1 is all that a large segment of the economy (the middle class) ever cycles through its household and if that M1 is contracting then these households are either experiencing deflation or a fall in their standard of living. (Youąd better read that again.) But prices ARE holding steady. Then the middle class must be loosing in goods and services, since in MV = PQ both V and P are relatively constant and M (here M1) has fallen. The lower middle class only have M1 (far from being financial asset holders, over 51 percent of American households have 0 or negative net wealth; (due to mortgage, consumer debt etc. think of the rise in bankruptcies.) (By the way, the advent of electronic banking does nothing to alter this picture--accept insofar as the banks offering the online banking are the banks most likely to send the money electronically deposited as investment capital to China to build giant factories manned by new-coolie labor. The profits generated by this move never filters down to the łlower loop˛ to fertilize local American business enterprise. Our łsavings for the future˛ takes away our capacity to earn what it takes to buy those goods that line Wal Mart shelves. Now as for my contention that M1 is middle class life blood here is a list of different components that go into this complex reality we are calling M (money supply) and that economists use to distinguish definition M1 and broader definition M2. 1. Currency (outside the Fed and the reserve deposits of banks because they never circulate) 2. Traveler's checks 3. Demand deposits ( checking accounts; created when banks S & L's etc. make loans) 4. ATS checkable deposits 5. NOW accounts 6. Credit Union share draft accounts All of the above are M1, the familiar "spending money" of the economy. But there are other liquid assets that function as money in MV = PQ. Let's go on: 7. Savings deposits 8. Money market deposit accounts 9. Small-denomination time deposits 10. General Purpose Money Market Mutual Funds 11. Overnight Eurodollar deposits issued to US residents from foreign US banks and most critical to my argument: 12. overnight (and continuing contract) repurchase agreements: component of M that has displaced M1 money in the overall economy. --but these non-M1 monies circulates in the corporate and financial realms of Wall Street in Middle America. town--and when it is spent it is spent on new factories in china or a new Wal mart that will put Ma and Pa stores of your home town OUT OF BUSINESS. (Ma and Pa spend their profits in your town; Wal Mart sends its profits to Arkansas. Get it? The Waltons (billionaires) get the profits that used to go to middle-class mom and pop. (Ma can be seen today offering you free samples of cheese spread as an employee of Wal Mart.) MV =PQ is an always-true identity called "The Equation of Exchange" but when you assume that V is constant it becomes "The Quantity Theory of Money." As for you Keynesians, (I'll bet of the ten people that read this post have used Samuelsonąs textbook in college. To convert my Marshallian analysis (Keynes was a pupil of Alfred Marshal) to the Keynesian framework, merely mark the dollars spent in a year, i.e., MV, according to whether they were spent by consumers, by by investing businesses, or by government, and MV is thus redefined as C + I + G. And you have the simple Keynesian model: PQ = C + I + G This slight of hand trick by Keynes enabled him to confuse people and conceal the real role of money. Thanks to Keynes, now when you want to increase Q you merely goose government spending, G. And when you want to fight inflation you merely reduce C (through taxation of consumer income). Future standards of living are based on present investment. The savings (foregone consumption) allows the investment to take place. I'm distinguishing between middle-class enhancing investment (Ma and Pa's business) vs. that billionaire who built the sneaker factory in China and Vietnam. Well, today the M1 money supply is being contracted, but you do not hear about it. During the chairmanship of Greenspan the FED started tracking M2 and M3 and interest rates, i.e., the money the corporate and International (Eurodollar) loops circulate--the money that never touches the wage earner or the small businessman of the middle-class loop. The interest rates of course, the per year łprices˛ of loanable funds are of course of importance to the bond-holding Establishment, Greenspan's number one constituency and concern. ... Paul is a hoaxter serving the money power, serving the creditors who want maximum payment of purchasing power from you, who want more and more hours of your work to pay off the old debts that you incurred when prices and wages were not so far apart as they are now and the debt you were undertaking seemed and was reasonable.   I'll tell you what interest really is.  Interest is what the financiers is paying to keep purchasing power out of circulation.  If money is plentiful then their business, lending money, suffers.  If money is plentiful then people can pay off their debts and then the rich will be without that infinity of compound interest owed to them.  Interest is what people must pay the Money Power for the purchasing power they must have to live.  The purchasing power belongs to the money power simply because bad government has shut up Social Credit and given bank charters to private interests so they will have a monopoly of credit -- so that no one with a good idea or a good process or a creative innovation or a willingness to work extra hard and sacrifice to produce something can do it unless the Money Power is payed an extortioners share called the rate of interest.  But this crime is so deeply ingrained in our system that we don't even see it for what it is.   Of course all of our money today is loaned into existence, loaned at interest.  And with the US economy in negative industrial grown it is obvious that there is negative return on investment in industry in the US.   The Money Power is not interested in decreasing the debt of the US government or of the American household.  Just the opposite is the case.  They are wealth maximizers and the wealth they seek to maximize is their holdings of our IOU's and the flow of interest we and the government pay and pay and pay.    But if debt maximization is the goal of the money power, then what are we letting them run the economy for.  What are we handing them bailouts for?  We know that all of that money is going to China and Israel and the hidden octopus tenticles of the Money Power reaching around the world to take and to enslave.   White man, black man, red man and yellow man, all over the world we are exploited by the Money Power, by the international bankers and those they have placed at the head of governments and corporations to do their bidding, to carry out their policy for running the world.  Liberals, liberatarians, conservatives, progressives, communists, socialists, labor movements, environmentalists, academics -- all serve the Money Power, because Money Power can always buy out the top of any organization or replace the ones who won't be bought.   This depression can be ended immediately. In 1834, only 100 years ago, Sir Robert Peel was called hurriedly from Rome to London to form a Government. He took almost as long to come as Julius Caesar had taken nearly two thousand years before, for he had similar transport – horses and sailing ships only. Man’s recorded history on this earth is of some 7,000 years. The present Machine-age is of little more than 100 years. Our own lifetime has seen the development of electricity, the petrol engine, motor cars, aeroplanes, wireless, and now the defining cause of unemployment by labour-saving machinery. THE AGE OF PLENTY IS HERE. The Machine-age has only just begun, but even in its infancy the Machine can supply mankind with all its wants. The Age of Plenty is here, yet we have thousands of our own people just existing on 1˝d. per meal per person, every day, week in, week out. Poverty in the midst of Plenty is said to be today’s problem. None will deny the Poverty. If any doubt the Plenty, let them say why America orders the destruction of one-third of wheat, cotton and tobacco crops; of six million suckling pigs and one million sows. Why Denmark, Holland and the Argentine destroy cattle. Why Ireland slaughters 200,000 calves a year. Why Brazil destroys coffee. Why 1˝ million oranges were thrown into the sea off Liverpool in August, 1933. Why statesmen all over the world are worried about how to restrict production, and get rid of what State Secretary Cordell Hull (U.S.A.) calls “our burdensome surpluses.” If production is so successful and as consumption would be so easy if we could get the goods into our hands, it is obvious that the problem we have not solved is that of Distribution. Distribution if the function of our Money System. How, then, is our money issued and controlled? How is it born, and how does it get into our pockets? HOW WE GET OUR MONEY In 1790 Mr. Mayer Amschel Rothschild said: “Permit me to issue and control a nation’s money, and I care not who makes its laws.” Our money is issued and its quantity controlled by the Bank of England, a private Company. Money may briefly be defined as “Any token readily accepted in exchange for goods and services.” It has taken various forms in various ages and countries, from cattle to shells or bits of copper wire. Today in this country it is in the form of copper and silver coins, paper notes and cheque-money. Cheque-money or “bank-credit” money forms about 95 per cent. of all the money we use. Under our present system all money is debt. To quote Mr. Reginald McKenna, ex-Chancellor of Exchequer and present Chairman of the Midland Bank: “The amount of money in existence varies only with the action of the banks. … Every bank loan and every purchase of securities creates a deposit, and every repayment of a loan and every bank sale destroys one.” And, again Mr. McKenna: “To define monetary policy in a few words, I should say it is the policy which concerns itself with regulating the quantity of money, and it is controlled by the Bank of England.” Banks do not lend deposits. Banks make loans, and when the borrower writes a cheque to pay for goods or services the receiver of the cheque by paying it into his own bank forms a deposit. You need never fear that your bank deposit will be lent to someone else. Bankers know that all money is debt. They do not need your deposit to make loans with, for they know that your deposit is only someone else’s debt to the banks. So long as the total amount of loans has not reached the limit of what they call the “safe” proportion to their cash reserve, the banks will make new cheque-money to lend without worrying about your deposit. When the total of loans is likely to be greater than the “safe” figure, the bankers do not ask for more deposits to lend: they ask for some of the loans to be paid off and cancelled. All our money therefore is born as loans by banks to industry and Government. Money gets into consumers’ pockets only through industry. All incomes (except the salaries of bank servants) must come in this way, directly or indirectly. Wages, salaries and dividends come from industry directly; while the doctor’s fee comes out of our wages or salaries, and the old-age pensioner’s 10s. a week comes yet more indirectly from taxes out of our wages. THREE DEFECTS IN OUR PRESENT MONEY SYSTEM In our present Money System for distributing the goods we produce are three vital defects. Firstly, the amount of our national money is controlled by the Bank of England, a private company, whose advantage lies in treating “money” as a commodity, and not merely as a convenient ticket system to enable us to consume the goods produced. It is not therefore the chief interest of our money-controllers to ensure that the standard of living of our people is as high as their ability to produce real wealth – goods and services – will allow. From this it is apparent that the first step in any reform must be to restore to the nation that monopoly of control over its money which it has allowed to pass into the hands of the Governors of the Bank of England. The second defect is that the total quantity of our money is regulated, not – as one would expect – by the amount of real wealth which the nation can produce and wishes to consume, but by the weight of gold in certain London vaults. This means that our standard of living is determined and restricted according to supplies of a yellow metal which is not itself very useful. HOW GOLD DECIDES OUR STANDARD OF LIVING Our standard of living is determined by how much we can use or consume of clothing, food, shelter and all further comforts and conveniences of civilisation. Such consumption is limited by our individual “purchasing-power” – money. The total of our purchasing-power or incomes is determined by the amount of money created by the Banking system through loans to Industry. The total amount of such loans is determined by a certain ratio to the amount of gold held in the Bank of England vaults. In this way our standard of living is decided, not by the skill and capacity of our people in producing real goods, but by the amount of gold held in London by a private company. The second step in any monetary reform must therefore be to base our “money” on the actual wealth, in goods and services, which we are able to produce. WHY “PURCHASING-POWER” IS TOO SMALL Treating “money” as a commodity, our banking system keeps it in short supply, and while willing to create it and lend it for the buying and making of productive “capital goods” – factories and machinery – banks are not willing to wait for repayment until all the goods which those factories and machinery will produce are sold to consumers [which may take years or even decades]. Therefore the owners must charge the cost of that machinery into the prices of their goods as quickly as they can, in order to pay back the bank loans. This part of their costs and prices appears as Depreciation and Reserves in their accounts, but it is not distributed as wages or salaries to become purchasing power for individual consumers. When bank loans are repaid quickly by the issue of Debenture Shares to the public, the money so subscribed has been saved out of wages and salaries which formed part of costs and prices of goods previously made. It has not been used to buy the goods it produced and is now being used to produce still more goods and prices; there must obviously then be so much goods left unsold, to buy which no money exists. It is sometimes suggested that this shortage of purchasing-power, as compared with total prices, does not really occur because more Capital Goods are always being made and so more “incomes” being provided by the making. Certainly the shortage is partly masked in this way, but to make up the shortage ever greater and greater loans for production must be made; thus ultimately increasing the “gap” between incomes and prices. Even if Banks were prepared to make these unlimited loans, can we contemplate covering England with unnecessary factories simply to provide wages with which to buy the surplus goods we have already made? This big shortage of “purchasing-power” is the great defect when trying to operate our out-of-date Money System in our new Age of Plenty. It has created the world’s problem. It causes the “burdensome surpluses” in every nation, surpluses of goods which could well be consumed but cannot be “bought”. Even those who do not openly admit this “gap” tacitly acknowledge it by the remedies they propose. These are mainly loans for making more Capital Goods or for Public Works, in both cases thus providing wages with which to buy the glut of goods already made. Both suggestions would leave loans to be repaid in the future, and one would produce yet more goods which there would not be enough money to buy. II Consumer-Credit Would End Poverty ALL INDUSTRY EXISTS FOR CONSUMPTION We today suffer poverty and other ills in the midst of plenty because of a deficiency in purchasing power, i.e., money tokens. This deficiency is caused by:- (i) Control of our money by a private Company instead of by the Nation; (ii) The limiting of money by relating it to gold, instead of to our real wealth; (iii) The fact that the total of consumers’ incomes is always much less than total prices produced during the same period, under the present system of production-loans and pricing. It cannot seriously be disputed that the real aim of Industry is the consumption of the goods produced. Without consumption, all activities of production are futile and would cease. It is apparent that in this Machine-age, to consume the wealth of goods and services which science and invention can so lavishly produce with less and less demands on manpower, some form of “consumer-credit” is essential. The backing for this consumer-credit already exists in the surplus of production over consumption in any civilised community. Distribution of such credit, apart from the usual channels of Industry – wages, salaries, etc., to bridge the present “gap” between incomes and prices, is the only way by which a civilised community can buy and consume all it produces. Social Credit shows how it can be done fairly and without danger of inflation. HOW AN ENGINEER SAW THE WORLD PROBLEM Major C.H. Douglas, a member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, arrived at this solution by approaching the problem as a practical engineer approaches a problem. All economists and politicians so far have accepted today’s money-system as a fixed unalterable condition, and endeavour to restrict and alter human welfare to fit that system. Hence the destruction of real wealth all over the world – an artificial creation of the scarcity which is necessary for that money-system. Why should humanity suffer poverty rather than alter a system which man made and man can therefore modify? The engineer faced with any problem asks:— (i) What do we want to obtain? (ii) What have we to get it with? (iii) How can we best use our tools and materials? In the present problem we want adequate food, clothes and shelter for every person, adding the comforts of civilisation and leisure for cultural and spiritual development, also individual freedom and security. To obtain these we have Nature’s ample raw materials and power resources; the science, inventions and machinery inherited from past generations, and our own brains and muscles. We have also a money-system whose function should be to make possible the consumption of things produced, in fact, a distributing system. The third question remains. How can we use our means to achieve our aims? At present the scientist, engineer and industrialist have done their job well – the goods and services are produced in abundance. Our trouble is that the Distributing System – Money – has failed to distribute. Douglas, the engineer-economist, saw that our successful production was obtained by following and applying Nature’s universal laws, and that our unsuccessful distributing system was based on man-made rules and conventions which could be altered when they did not work. He saw that “money” instead of being merely convenient tokens for the distribution and consumption of things produced, had become a commodity dealt in for its own sake, limited in quantity for this reason, and therefore unable properly to do the job for which alone it existed. Douglas was among the first to point out that whereas in peace many good things are denied us or left undone because there is no “money” for them, yet in war nothing thought desirable was left undone for this reason. If the men and materials existed, the thing was done. Nobody said “We can’t afford it.” If in war, why not in peace? In war, the money-system had to give way, temporarily. In peace, to make full human life possible, the money-system must be altered and adjusted permanently. Whatever is physically possible must be made financially possible. Douglas saw that the necessary alteration is, in a word, “Consumer-credit”; issued by the Nation; based on its actual wealth produced; and distributed apart from work or industrial channels. There may be other methods of distributing this Consumer-credit, but so far Major Douglas’ proposals have easily held the field for 15 years as the most practical. They are in two parts, each complimentary to the other – one is distribution by a NATIONAL DISCOUNT upon all purchases for individual consumption; the other is the distribution of a NATIONAL DIVIDEND to every British-born person resident in Great Britain. HOW TO DISTRIBUTE “CONSUMER-CREDIT” The backing of this “Consumer-credit” is the actual wealth-producing capacity of the nation – a far sounder basis than a mass of yellow metal. How would it be calculated? A National Credit Office staffed by technicians would collect all the data of national Wealth Production and Consumption (on the lines of that already ascertained yearly by our Board of Trade and Industrial Revenue Departments), and from these would calculate at suitable intervals, say each six months, the rates of National Discount and National Dividend for the following half-year. Such work would be purely mathematical and as much beyond “faking” or influence by individuals, parties or governments as are our weights and measures. (All figures are illustrative only, with no pretence of accuracy) THE REAL COST OF PRODUCTION IS CONSUMPTION It must be remembered that the real, the physical, cost of Production is Consumption. The real cost of all the goods and services which this nation produces in any year is the actual consumption of goods and services and wearing out of machinery and buildings by the nation during that same year. The financial cost is a very different thing, and is much greater. In our illustration Balance Sheet the total surplus divisible among Consumers is Ł500 million. This is not paper money created with no backing of wealth, but is “credit” given to the whole people of the nation for having, during the past six months, created new means of production, i.e., factories, machinery, etc., in excess of the amount of wealth consumed in that time. The present Financial System has no way of fully and directly reflecting this increase of real wealth in the lives of the people. All it can do is to charge them for the use of the new machinery. This surplus forms the “Consumer-credit” which must be distributed if a machine-using community is to buy and consume all it produces. Under Douglas Social Credit most of this credit would be distributed by means of the NATIONAL DISCOUNT. With a Balance Sheet as illustrated, a 20 per cent. discount might be declared for the next six months’ period, absorbing Ł400 million and leaving Ł100 million for distribution as the NATIONAL DIVIDEND. The genius of the Discount proposal is that it puts a premium on Consumption, or spending, and only issues the Consumer-credit or new money when the goods are not only made but actually bought for consumption, at a reduced price. This disposes of any question of “inflation”. To make practical details clear, let us follow the making and buying of an overcoat. In the first place, wages and the percentage rates of gross profits are fixed by agreement through all industries. Our overcoat manufacturer will have a loan from his bank to meet production costs, wages, cloth etc. The wholesaler, by a loan from his bank, will purchase a supply of the coats. The retailer, by a loan from his bank, will buy a selection. You now approach the retail counter and choose your coat, of which the final financial cost and price (including all wages, charges and profits of maker, wholesaler and retailer) is, we will say, Ł5. You therefore will pay the retailer Ł5, just as you might today. Social Credit being in force, the National Credit Office (from Production and Consumption census of the previous half-year) has found that a National Discount of 20 per cent. can be allowed, and the Government has accordingly declared this. On your receipt for the coat, therefore, will be a stamp or coupon certifying that you have on that date bought and paid for a Ł5 overcoat, and on presenting this at your bank, your account there will be accredited with Ł1 by the National Credit Office (out of the National Surplus), so completing the whole cycle of trade in which all loans will now have been repaid and everyone be ready to start a new cycle of Production for Consumption. For smaller articles, probably the retailer would sell to consumers at net reduced prices (a 5s. article for 4s.) and claim weekly or monthly the 20 per cent. credit from his bank by certificate of his accounts. When we consider the complex ramifications today of our Tariff and Inland Revenue Systems, the millions of Government Pension accounts, the millions of separate accounts kept by Co-operative Societies (who record every penny sale and calculate dividends), we see there is not the least difficulty in administering a Social Credit National Discount. As now, all traders and manufacturers’ accounts would be subject to inspection. In this way the NATIONAL DISCOUNT portion of the necessary consumer-credit would be distributed. There remains the NATIONAL DIVIDEND, a payment (irrespective of other income or work done) to every citizen as a birthright. A NATIONAL DIVIDEND FOR ALL For thousands of years Man struggled for security – a production sufficient to feed, clothe and shelter him with a certain amount of comfort. This generation sees the end of that struggle in civilised communities. By our present control of Nature’s vast resources of raw materials and power we can produce ample real wealth to satisfy those needs for every person in the community. Poverty is now entirely unnecessary. This tremendous change is not due to any man now living, nor to any class, but is the crown of the work of men in all generations. From the first makers of fire, the flint axe, the wheel, metal tools, steam engines, etc., to our day of the petrol motor, electricity and wireless, each worker has added his contribution of thought and skill to the facilities inherited from predecessors. So today the cumulative result of all this science, invention and industry is the common possession of us all, and it is this cultural inheritance which makes a NATIONAL DIVIDEND the right of every person. A British Birth Certificate should be a Share Certificate in Great Britain, Ltd., for every resident, and as such should bring a dividend paid out of the National Surplus of Production over Consumption. St. Paul’s words, “If any will not work neither let him eat,” had every sanction in an age of scarcity, when Man was still struggling for a meagre existence, and non-production by one meant less welfare and more work for others. Today, with millions unemployed because their produce could not be sold, and machinery ever making man-work more unnecessary in production, this doctrine is both irrelevant and wrong. WHERE THE DIVIDEND COMES FROM It may be asked by those unacquainted with either the present Money System or Social Credit, “Where is the money to come from for these National Dividends?” The short answer is, “Where all our money comes from now – the credit of the British people.” At a little greater length this question is answered by explaining, as in previous pages, that our country’s real wealth is its people’s capacity for producing goods and services; that our “money” is merely book-entries converted into tokens – cheques, paper notes or metal discs – for the convenient distribution and consumption of that real wealth; that so long as the real wealth in goods and a services exists, sufficient “money” to deal with it can be created as it is now, by writing figures in books. This is where our present and future “money” comes from. The National Dividend is new money created by the Nation, not got from taxation. A more pertinent question is, “Why have a National Dividend as well as a National Discount?” The main reason is two-fold. There are, and always will be, numbers of persons unable to engage in paid work for various reasons – old age, ill-health and the fact that their labours are not needed in production, and these must all have an income if they are to help in consuming the produce of the machines. Secondly, our greatest production (and capacity for still greater production) is of the ordinary, everyday requirements of life, and it is just upon these that a National Dividend distributed to everybody (as 95 per cent. of our population are ordinary every-day people) will be spent. The Principle of the National Dividend already exists in our Old Age, Widows, and Blind Pensions, Out-door Relief, etc. Social Credit proposes to consolidate all such odds and ends into on National Dividend payable as a right to every British man, woman and child resident in Great Britain. THIRTY SHILLINGS A WEEK FOR ALL It is suggested that this starts modestly at not more than 30s. per week per person, and could be paid through Post Offices or credited to bank accounts. It would, of course, be additional to all wages, salaries, etc., earned by recipients. If thought necessary, to meet the fears of those who think that few would work with such a secure income, it could be a condition of the National Dividend for a period of, say, five years that the recipient shall take his part according to his abilities in productive work if needed. The firm foundation of Douglas Social Credit is the fact – the fact – that a civilised community can today produce far more real wealth, goods and services, than it consumes. It is on this surplus alone that the National Dividend and the National Discount, as explained here, are both based. They are complementary proposals, which together form the only practical method yet put forward whereby a nation can itself make use of the wealth which it produces. Today every nation tries to get rid of this so-called “surplus” wealth, which its own people produce but cannot buy, by exporting it abroad and refusing equal value goods in exchange. Such giving away of real wealth, without receiving payment, is called “having a favourable balance of trade.” The attempt by all nations to do this is international commercial war and inevitably leads to war with gas and guns. III General Effects of Social Credit Social Credit is not a form of government, but is a scientific economic system. It could operate under any form of government, but without it no Government can enable a nation to make use of all the wealth that nation produces. INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY AND SECURITY The primary object of Social Credit policy is to increase the economic power of the individual. It is a fundamental conception of the Social Credit Movement that group relationships, such as the State, are only of importance in so far as they conduce to the well-being and progress of every individual composing them. Opportunity for and encouragement of the individual is the keynote, and this marks the Social Credit proposals as distinctly British; in line with all our history and best national traditions and characteristics. This people has always striven for, and has gained to a greater degree than any other people, civil and religious liberty for the individual. If we will now add to this economic liberty for the individual, it may again be said, “England has saved herself by her exertions and the world by her example.” Such individualism is engrained in the British character, but with a great disposition for co-operation, “team-work”, provided it is recognised that the organisation exists for the welfare of every person. This is the real practical socialism – the co-operation of free individuals resulting in the maximum of welfare and opportunity for everyone. The British people, having such a history and such characteristics, will not readily turn to the Russian, Italian or German attempted solutions for their problems. All three are alike in theory and practice, but with different sets of people as dictators; and all depend upon that conscription of the individual in agricultural, industrial and commercial life, which would be utterly contrary to all our traditions. On the other hand we take naturally to a further step along the path of individual freedom which we have trod for centuries, and Social Credit gives greater freedom to the individual in every way – freedom to make losses as well as profits. Security for all but a greater or fuller life for each, just so far as he is able to develop his own powers and abilities. REMOVING THE “POWER” OF MONEY After individual security, freedom and independence, the next general effect of Social Credit is that “power” is taken from the mere ownership of money or the means of wealth-production. By the Social Credit proposals, which provide under national control sufficient money tickets to enable the community to use all the wealth it is able to produce, and which distribute part of that money as a Discount to all consumers and part as a Dividend to every British resident, “power” (in the sense of control over other people’s lives and welfare) is entirely taken away from the mere ownership of money. With Social Credit, though percentage rates of gross profits are limited, there is no hindrance to increase of total profits through an increase of production; but any man who saves a large part of the money tokens coming to him – whether as wages or profits – is benefitting his fellows at his own expense. In the first place he will not get the advantage of the National Discount on what he saves – only upon what he spends for consumption. Secondly, if he merely hoards his savings, the National Discount for everyone during the next period will be larger – because Consumption has been by so much less than Production. Thirdly, should his savings be invested in the production of more goods, this additional national production means still greater Discount for the general consumer. In fact, the system ensures that all incomes or profits in excess of amounts used for the individual’s own consumption are automatically turned to the benefit of the rest of the consumers; thus again removing “power” over others from the mere ownership of wealth. For the rest, some further effects of Social Credit can briefly be stated as:- No more poverty. No more enforced unemployment. The use of steam laundries will abolish home washing-days and mothers will not ruin eye-sight in darning garments which should be scrapped. Real foreign trade – exchange of goods for goods – instead of present trade wars. Hello Dick,

It is impossible to outguess the people who are manipulating us and the rest of the world.  What is interesting, though, is that they seem to be going to a lot of trouble to try and confuse us by having gatekeepers like Chomsky and Alex Jones and Robert Fisk making us think that that there are forces out there, working against them, when it is just part of the plot to make those, who otherwise might be inclined to be concerned, relax in the "knowledge" that someone has got their measure.

I have still not recovered from my amazement that the American people actually voted such a transparent crook as Richard Nixon into the White House, even after he had stated that he would never run for public office again, thus making his bid for the presidency that of a self-confessed liar.

 

Conjecture about the nature of such things, when there are so many examples of mass manipulation, which should have been obvious to anyone giving them a minimum amount of thought, are likely to make one a suitable case for a mental breakdown.  No wonder so many people chose to study the behaviour of animals.

   Obama is a red king, not a black one, and Ruppert Murdoch is playing red.


Their ultimate triumph over your obtusity and credulity obtains when you believe that Murdoch's Fox News is leading  the fight to expose the fraud and treason of the Obama presidency.  This is the dirty trick equivalent of running McCain as the "best hope" of defeating Obama  -- like hell he was and they knew that only McCain could get Obama elected and only Hillary could get him nominated.

The enemy always advances by dividing us so that we fight each other instead of them, and they themselves pretend to be divided among themselves  -- Fox against Obama, conservative against progressive, Republican against Democrat ,  Ron Paul against the Fed, Ventura against HAARP, Ken Starr against Bill Clinton etc.  when in fact they are false opposition -- just as McCain and Kucinich and Hillary and Ron Paul and Bob Barr and, before them Perot and Buchanan etc were false opposition candidates who ran to absorb the opposition to the money party candidate and then run it off a cliff.

I seem to have alienated all my readers -- by holding up my mirror.  I was never fit to talk to people like you.  I am lower middle class and those are the people who I should have tried to reach -- shutting off the computer which ever and always is nothing but lotus eating when it comes to real beat-them-in-the-streets politics.  My mistake was waging a war on the internet instead of meeting with real people in my own town and starting a movement of the class most hurt -- instead I stuck to e-mail lists -- so as to eliminate  the stress on my family that real politics with real people would have involved.  I suspect that somewhere between 20 percent and 80 percent of bloggers or e-list discussants in politics think they themselves are a considerable factor in national politics.  I have been that stupid myself.  And of this group I'd guess that at least a quarter are waiting for their readers to lift them on their shoulders and make them national leaders.  Yes, I too have been that stupid.  And so we see the Christian principle demonstrated that pride, vanity, egoism, selfishness lead to destruction.  (At least I found leaders other than myself and attempted to promote them --  Bowman, Faarakhan  -- and the discussants whose writings I have shared. But I am disappointed that I have never gained a follower aside from two or three paronizing flatterers over the years.  I have always been checkmated -- jumped  -- by the notion that if you seek power you are morally unworthy to possess it -- from a lifetime of seeing self-seeking politicians always turn bad when they get to Washington.  But the American people have lost the inititative to look for good people and seek to draft them  -- as I tried to do with Bowman and Faarakhan.  Most of you will back no man whose name is not on a menu prepared by the money power.  Remember, the political parties exist to prevent numerous candidates from appearing, to prevent an election from being thrown into the House of Representatives for decision.  Remember, the ruling minority will always attempt to control all other groups for their own use.

So be fools.  Let Fox News and Jesse Ventura and Ron Paul lead you in the fight against the Money Power -- you (and I) are incapable of generating any leaders of our own.-- you might as well accept the ones the enemy gives you.

Don't you remember that Murdoch and Fox oppose Obama for being to soft in fighting tghe war on terror?  How can you let them lead the fight against Obama's credentials.  Fox News's opposition to Obama is as phony as Israel's.  It is all for show to fool us into not noticing how these are really all arms operating to accomplish the same policies, the same destruction and plunder of you and I.

It's possible someone is going to go down -- either Obama or Fox News.

It may be that Fox has been holding this information back due to the
sensitivity of it and out of courtesy.

But, Obama has taken on Fox and it appears they are ready to spill the
ugly beans of truth about the background of this individual who has had an
extremely radical past. I'm not going to miss it and I hope you won't
either.  This could/should prove to be very, very interesting!

This Sunday, Fox News, is going to air a very important documentary about
Barack Obama, Sunday night at 8 PM Central Time; 9 PM Eastern Time.

The report will go back to Obama's earlier days, showing even then his
close ties to radical Marxist professors, friends, spiritual advisers,
etc..

It will also reveal details about his ties to Rev. Wright for +20 years
i.e. how he was participating with this man, and not for the reasons he
states.


The report has uncovered more of Obama's radical past and we will see
things that no one in the media is willing to put out there.  It will be a
segment to remember.

Is Erik "Blackwater" Prince 'Graymailing' the US Government?

The in-depth Vanity Fair profile of the infamous owner of Blackwater, Erik Prince, is remarkable on many levels--not least among them that Prince appeared to give the story's author, former CIA lawyer Adam Ciralsky, unprecedented access to information about sensitive, classified and lethal operations not only of Prince's forces, but Prince himself. In the article, Prince is revealed not just as owner of a company that covertly provided contractors to the CIA for drone bombings and targeted assassinations, but as an actual CIA asset himself. While the story appears to be simply a profile of Prince, it might actually be the world's most famous mercenary's insurance policy against future criminal prosecution. The term of art for what Prince appears to be doing in the VF interview is graymail: a legal tactic that has been used for years by intelligence operatives or assets who are facing prosecution or fear they soon will be. In short, these operatives or assets threaten to reveal details of sensitive or classified operations in order to ward off indictments or criminal charges, based on the belief that the government would not want these details revealed. "The only reason Prince would do this [interview] is that he feels he is in very serious jeopardy of criminal charges," says Scott Horton, a prominent national security and military law expert. "He absolutely would not do these things otherwise."

Congress Launches Investigation into Taliban Payola

CNN : Rep. John Tierney (D-MA) discusses his subcommittee's investigation into charges that the Department of Defense is essentially bribing Taliban warlords so US supply lines can safely travel through Afghanistan.

There is no doubt Prince is in the legal cross-hairs: There are reportedly two separate Grand Juries investigating Blackwater on a range of serious charges, ranging from gun smuggling to extralegal killings; multiple civil lawsuits alleging war crimes and extrajudicial killings; and Congress is investigating the assassination program in which Prince and his company were central players.

"Obviously, Prince does know a lot and the government has to realize that once they start prosecuting him," says Melanie Sloan, a former federal prosecutor and the executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. "In some ways, graymail is what any good defense lawyer would do. This is something that's in your arsenal."

Perhaps the most prominent case of graymail was by Oliver North when he and his lawyers used it to force dismissal of the most serious charges against him stemming from his involvement in the Iran-Contra Affair. In another case, known as Khazak-gate, a US businessman, James Giffen, allegedly paid $78 million in bribes to former Khazakh Prime Minister Nurlan Balgimbayev in an attempt to win contracts for western oil companies to develop the Tengiz oil fields in the 1990s. In 1993, he was charged with violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in the largest overseas bribery case in history. After Giffen was indicted, he claimed that if he did what he was accused of, he did it in the service of US intelligence agencies. The case has been in limbo ever since.

"This is as old as the hills as a tactic and it has a long track record of being very effective against the government," says Horton. "It's basically a threat to the government that if you prosecute me, I'll disclose all sorts of national security-sensitive information. The bottom line here is it's like an act of extortion or a threat: you do X and this is what I'm going to do." Horton said that the Vanity Fair article was Prince "essentially putting out the warning to the Department of Justice: 'You prosecute me and all this stuff will be out on the record.'"

According to Ciralsky's article, Prince was a "full-blown asset" of "the C.I.A.'s National Resources Division [which] recruited Prince in 2004 to join a secret network of American citizens with special skills or unusual access to targets of interest:"

Two sources familiar with the arrangement say that Prince's handlers obtained provisional operational approval from senior management to recruit Prince and later generated a "201 file," which would have put him on the agency's books as a vetted asset. It's not at all clear who was running whom, since Prince says that, unlike many other assets, he did much of his work on spec, claiming to have used personal funds to road-test the viability of certain operations...

Prince was developing unconventional means of penetrating "hard target" countries--where the C.I.A. has great difficulty working either because there are no stations from which to operate or because local intelligence services have the wherewithal to frustrate the agency's designs. "I made no money whatsoever off this work," Prince contends. He is unwilling to specify the exact nature of his forays. "I'm painted as this war profiteer by Congress. Meanwhile I'm paying for all sorts of intelligence activities to support American national security, out of my own pocket."

"I think that [Prince] will use all of his information and his knowledge of these secret dealings in basically what is an extortion play: 'You come after me, and I'll spill the beans on everything,'" says Horton. "That's the essence of graymail and the Department of Justice will usually get its feathers all ruffled up and they'll say, 'You can't deal with the government like this. This is unfair and improper.' But in the end, it usually works."

In the Vanity Fair article, Prince alleges that he was outed--by whom he does not say, but the implication is that CIA Director Leon Panetta named him in a closed door hearing of the Intelligence Committee last June, and then the name was leaked by one of the attendees of that hearing. Sloan, the former federal prosecutor, said that if what Prince says in the Vanity Fair article about his role in secret CIA programs is true, he has a case that laws were broken in revealing his identity. "I'm not his fan, but he's not wrong. For somebody to leak his identity as a CIA asset clearly merits a criminal investigation," Sloan said. "Whether they should have ever hired Erik Prince or made him into an asset is a separate question. Assuming he really was a CIA asset, basically a spy, an undercover operative, and somebody decided to leak that, that's not acceptable and that is a violation of the same law that leaking Valerie [Plame]'s identity was. If you can't leak one person, you can't leak any person, not just the people you like versus the people you don't like."

While much of the focus in the Vanity Fair story was on Prince's work with the CIA, the story also confirmed that Blackwater has an ongoing relationship with the US Special Forces, helping plan missions and providing air support. As The Nation reported, Blackwater has for years been working on a classified contract with the Joint Special Operations Command in a drone bombing campaign in Pakistan, as well as planning snatch-and-grab missions and targeted assassinations. Part of what may be happening behind closed doors is that the CIA is, to an extent, cutting Blackwater and Prince off. But, as sources have told The Nation, the company remains a central player in US Special Forces operations in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Prince's choice of Adam Ciralsky to tell his story is an interesting one as well. Ciralsky was a CIA lawyer who in 1997 was suspended under suspicion he was having unauthorized contacts with possible Israeli intelligence agents. Ciralsky vehemently denied the allegations, saying he was the victim of a "witch-hunt" at the Agency. In any case, there is no question that Prince would view Ciralsky through the lens of his own struggle against the CIA. "When I saw the article, the first thing that just leapt off the page was his name. I thought, 'My god, why would he go to Adam?'" said Horton. "And then I read the article and I thought, of course he'd go to Adam. There is this legal theme being developed in the article and Adam, as a lawyer who had dealt with the CIA, fully understands that. I mean I think he fully understood he was going to do a piece that would help Prince develop his legal defense and that's what this is. The amazing thing to me is that Vanity Fair printed it. Do the editors of Vanity Fair not understand what's going on here?"
