After some serious time off we are now looking at starting a fencing practice
again. This would be for the LHA, but our SCA friends are welcome and their
quals will be honored if they are not registrated LHA. We will not be starting
for about a month as people need to get pass Pennsic at this point. We will be
checking with our brothers to the south so we do not conflict with thier
training which I think is currently Mondays and Thursday. Will be checking.

This will be in the New Bedford area I am putting this out there for any postive
input. Since we have been there we understand people are not working and cant
travel so we hope this will help for those that cannot make practices in RI or
to the north. We are looking for thoughts and ideas as we put together a plan.

We will also be looking at the option of have a drum circle in the New Bedford
area. Any postive thoughts or ideas on this topic are welcome also.

Since I dealt with my spam problem and changed my email I am not on all the
boards. If you read this and feel it is proper please copy and paste.

Respectfully,
Philippe Provost
aka Achmed Mohammand Opec Boobie

I have been in conversation with the Exec. Director of the LHAand he is going to
send me a copy of all active members of the Knights of Santiago. They have a
huge event in VT this coming weekend so his goal is to have it to me by the end
(9/20) of next week. This will be good as I know many have forgotten to renew
their memberships. The challenge to this is two fold, if you are not active you
are not insured. On you membership card it will give you the date your
membership expires, if you are current you will also note you are insured on the
back of the card. The second challenge is if you are not active, per the rules
you loose your marshal standing. I do not know if you renew if you regain you
marshal. If Maser Pat reads this maybe he will share.

But the bottomline is it would be good to build the numbers so we could have
more demos and activities.

The list came in today from the LHA and I have to admitt I am very shocked at
how short it is. So bottomline if you think you have an active membership
please get back to me. There are a few people who are claiming to be LHA
marshals both in Heavy and Fencing and they not on the list which means you are
neither a marshal or insured with the LHA.

Respectfully,
Philippe

Guys, had a problem with our 400 watt lighting system. One of the lights caught
fire. I have three lights that are down and need replacing. Without the
lighting we can not do much after 7:30 so be aware. I understand if the drive
back and forth is more then the training or event then it might not be worth the
trip. I am being told as of last night this should be fixed next Tuesday.
Tricia and I will most likely do drills for the hour we have.

Sorry for late notice.

Hey everyone just wanted to up date you on some in developments. Some of us have
been working on re-building the pre-17th century segment of the LHA. In the
process I was advised that my wife (Tricia) and I were the only members in the
LHA that were still under the Knights banner. Most have not been around since
2007. This creates a problem in a few areas and other recent developments made
us take a step back. So after several conversations (e-mails) with the Exec.
Director of the LHA we decided to pick up the mantel and run with rebuilding a
group on a more equal for all thinking. You will be seeing conversation and
developments that are aimed to creating a structure that makes all equal in the
Kingdom of the Coventry thus not allowing ruling classes, (example fencers
better then..... Arts people, not going to happen). There will be an advancement
structure that allows all areas of interest to advance the same way. I will be
posting developments often. Right now we are building a good base group and
would like to invite everyone that is on this board to be involved. I will be
posting the leadership structure soon and you will see there are many seats
still open.

This effort has been greeted with a very positive and supportive reply form the
leadership of the LHA.

Hey

To all my household members We at the Fortress are trying a new way of doing
things. Our household is going to be Primarily LHA(living history association)
and we will also cater to SCA, Rennies and LARPERS. We welcome all who have
something to contribute and want to put the time into making this household
functional and fun again. To include Demos, Classes, and events maybe annual
household members only kind of get together (bbq kind of thing) we will also be
including a childrens group. To hopefully be started when know how many children
and tweens we have.

Why the LHA? Simply because we have found that event sites are more apt to
allow you in if you have Liability insurance for your group. the SCA does not
have insurance of any kind. For this to happen 50% of our household must be
active paid members of the LHA as it stands the only members we know that are
active are Phil and myself and the kids. If you are a member please let us know
what branch you fall under. (I.e. the revolution, civil war, ww2) then we can
also add you to Kingdom of the Coventry. (we will need to see your membership
card)

Also there is a lot of things our household can't do under the SCA banner right
now like fencing and archery as we have no marshal and doesn't look like we will
get one anytime soon however under the LHA banner we have fencing marshals and I
am going to start finding out what I need to get an Archery marshal won't be
hard to come by. I will be working on that right after I work on this I have
some one in mind I just have to approach him.
we can also opt to open our events to the public vs. making it a members only
club.

There is time to think about this as we aren't planning to get the Kingdom
officially up and running before the first of the year. Until then we will be
trying to get with you on an individual basis and see where you stand., if you
are still interested in being a member, and if you have any ideas. We aren't
asking you to give up the any group you belong to . by any means as we also
enjoy Said events. We just thought our members might like the option of being
insured when they play

As a matter of fact we are talking about forming treaties with non LHA groups I
know a lot of people in the household have stayed away for one reason or another
we want to get together and do stuff and have fun doing it that is why we
started this household.

I was trying to send this individually but i have decided that it would be
easier to just send it and if I hear from you all that would be great if not
then I will resolve to individuals

We are revamping the FTMS household to the LHA as the previous posted has
indicated. I need to hear from my household who is interested in making the move
with us and staying members(no you dont have to quit the SCA or other play
group) and those that are not you can drop me an individual note or post to the
board it doesn't matter but after 2 years I feel it is time for all involved to
chime in on their memberships so we can update the board and move forward.

once again thank you for quick response

We are getting busy with some things with the LHA and hope to see you around. We
are working hard to do demos, ie; BSA and other non-profits. We would like to
show more then just fencing if you are interested. I also understand you might
be coming down to the drum circle...cool.

I'd love to help with demos. Now that things are getting to the financially
caught up point, I will be both renewing my sca membership as well as getting a
LHA membership sometime during the month of November. Whenever we can get down
for drum practice, I will always bring extra drums, as well as recorders. If we
find there's people interested, it is totally possible to do short term loan of
instruments as well, and as long as my car is fixed in time I will be there on
Thursday. (It started overheating on the way home from kat's school this
afternoon!)

Hello Everyone,

As you know based on some of Tricia's posts we are going to be making some
changes. The household is going to change its structure some and we are going
to be an LHA household. This does not mean we will not have anything to do with
our friends in the SCA. In fact I would encourage everyone to invite your SCA,
Ren and Larping friends to come get involved. What it does mean is our focus and
how we do things will be more towards the LHA. There are some, Tricia and I
being two of them that feel the LHA will give us a platform to build a group
that encompasses things and structure other groups fall short. The main focus
right now is developing a ranking by merit program that is consistent with all
interests in medieval study and lifestyle. Translation to that purpose; Heavy,
Fencing, Archery and A & S are all considered equals and the people within those
interest advance based on service, not just skill.

All Qualifying Marshals are required to take a test based on knowledge and
frankly common sense. This is to make the events and training safe. Right now I
will be working on required tests for fencing and Tricia is working on the test
for Archery and Throwing weapons. Guys, there is a bunch to do and the LHA is
more the willing to look at new ideas and ways to make things work for everyone.
If you want something to be involved in and grow an area of interest this is the
way to do it. BE INVOLVED in something you like to do!!!

I have been in conversation for a few weeks via e-mail with the Executive
Director and the Chairman of the LHA. They have been very supportive. Today both
the Executive Director and I took some time to chat on the phone, again he is
very supportive. This allowed him to be very clear on some questions and the
LHA position on the importance of membership. I know many people claim to be
LHA, but they are not and it has created some concern. The following is based
on the conversation and the follow up e-mail I received this afternoon; you may
play in the LHA and not be a member, but you will be required to sign waivers at
all events and trainings. A LHA Marshal of any interest; Heavy, fencing,
Archery etc…. MUST, be a registered member of the LHA. Any person or persons
claiming to be Marshals without being paying registered members are misleading
you. If you are a paid member of the LHA and you attend an event or training
and the person is not correctly registered as a Marshal your insurance coverage
may become void. It is important to note the LHA wants it's Marshals to be
taking a yearly test to not only show they know the rules, but they can use good
judgment when it comes to safety.

Finally based on the conversation and follow up e-mail the LHA takes a strong
position on having LHA members running events as again to assure the insurance
will not come into question. I realize this has not been how many have been
taught and the LHA leadership is in the process of addressing those concerns.
Moving forward we need to be responsible and give the LHA a good name. Just
like other organizations there are rules and benefits to belonging and being
involved.
