Featured Artist~Carrie Cervantes- I live in cold Michigan and have been working with gourds for about three years now. I discovered the art by viewing one at a garage sale and thought to myself...."I can do that" , and that was all she wrote! I went to college for Commercial Art and so I can draw a straight line without a ruler:)I do everything from carve, woodburn, paint, add clay and other embellishments and have most recently made my first drum. I like to try different techniques and stretch myself. I am so inspired by the wonderful artists in this group! My Santas are pretty popular at Craft Shows and I usually get on a Santa kick and make a bunch of them. I love to add clay to them and even glasses and most recently make them different colors with metallic acrylics. My brother in law is nice enought to cut branch slices for me to use as bases for these guys and it just adds to the natural flavor. I know many people who collect Santas and they look for more unique ones every year. It is such a pleasure to belong to this group. I also belong to the Michigan Society and have started a Lansing patch. There are just 3 of us so far but it is good fun to share ideas and techniques. Thank you for this honor!
