JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this position is to
administer the tree ordinance regulations, provide consultation to
developers’ landscape architects, prepare tree surveys, provide technical
advice, and perform inspections of trees.
JOB SCOPE:
No supervisory or budgetary
responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1.
Must be able to collect and process field data for
the preparation of tree surveys.
2.
Must be able to prepare original drawings utilizing
computer aided drafting (CAD) programs or other suitable software.
3.
Must be able to read, understand, and communicate
technical data contained in Chapter 102-Vegetation, other ordinances, and the
Urban Forest Technical Manual.
4.
Must be able to effectively consult with licensed
landscape architects to provide them with guidance and technical information.
5.
Must be able to perform field inspections to
determine the health of preserved and/or replacement trees.
6.
Must be able to effectively deal with time
pressures, frequently changing tasks, the performance of multiple tasks at the
same time, noisy work environment when in the field, and tedious and exacting
work.
MACHINES,
TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND WORK AIDES
Power
equipment, machetes, survey equipment, pruning devices and other tree- related
equipment as required.
PROTECTIVE
EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
Protective boots, chaps, hardhat,
gloves, eyewear, and other protective clothing may be required.

Note: Tree surveying takes place often in forested area that has not
been cleared or under brushed. This can be both physically demanding and hazardous
such as snakes, poisonous vegetation, etc. Machetes or other sharp devices are
sometimes required to provide access and may present a hazard.
EDUCATION,
CERTIFICATION, & EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
1.
Must have a four year bachelor’s degree in
forestry, urban forestry, arboriculture or a related field.
2. Must be able to obtain International
Society of Arboriculture Certification within twelve months of employment.
3. Must have a valid Class C
driver’s license.
4. Must pass drug test and doctors
physical examination.
