Â
Hi Scott,
The weigth of an O-200, with stock accessories, is in the range of 200-205 lbs.
I think that a dry weight, minus accessories, is more like 180-185 lbs or so.
The O-200 is built heavier in every direction than the A-65, so there is no way,
even stripped, that it weighs the same as an A-65. The case, crank, rods are
heavier and the sump holds 1-2 quarts more oil. The added weight isn't a bunch,
but I would count on a solid 8-10 lbs added right at the nose of the plane.
The offset of the engine attach points is different between the A-65 and O-200,
so spacers will need to be added at the engine mounting points to move the O-200
forward. I believe that you will need 2" spacers (I will have to confirm later).
I use a solid bar of aluminum 1.5" in diameter with a hole drilled in the center
for the mounting bolt. Once again, the spacers and longer bolts may add about a
pound of weight.
The exhaust, eyebrows, and prop will all bolt to the O-200. The mounting holes
for the eyebrows may need to be opened up a bit. The prop will probably need to
be re-pitched, although you could bolt the existign prop on and see how it
works.

parts of the existing FWF that could be re-used? engine mount? cowl? eyebrows?

for what that's worth), would the W&B be affected if you didn't add a starter or
alternator? If it is would it be difficult to adjust for it?
