***************************************************************** This Weekend At Patrick's Cabaret
December 14th & 15th Cabaret - 8 p.m, $6
Local artists explore it all: the breath of the American Dream, a new form of theatrical poetics, faith and mental illness. Curated and Emceed by Miriam Colvin and Rebekah Wilson.
* Chris Jones presents, "Chris Jones: a man sharing simple truths or a knucklehead out of his element?" essays on his experience with faith, mental illness, and making sense of the world by combining a little of both.
* Miriam Colvin An Absolute Original
* Mr. John Fenner can't sing, can't write & can't play; but he puts it together quite well!
* Aravind Enrique Adyanthaya performs a new form of theatrical poetics; scripture performance explores the staging of the act of writing, and the relationship between the writer, the written and its media. "Prometheus Bound," the premiere piece of this tentative genre is a scripting of Aeschylus' play enacted by Aravind Enrique Adyanthaya (Artistic Director of Casa Cruz de la Luna, San German, Puerto Rico and currently a resident Jerome Fellow at the Playwright's Center, Minneapolis).
* The core group of Afrika's Ensemble—Rene Ford on saxophones, Yawo Attivor on base and Elizeer Santos on percussion—will perform samples of their work exploring the breath of the American Dream.
* Outhouse Moon consists of Sarah Reinke, Tim Gustafson, Don & Alice Browne. Vocals, guitar, fiddle, bass, mandolin, banjo, humor and an eclectic song list promises to keep you mildly entertained.

A few of you know this already but . . .
The new Theatre Manager is . . . MOI--Laura/Fluffy.
So, if you are a poet, performance artist, musician, or theatre artist/group and woudl like to do a show at Acadia, let me know. January/February are fairly wide open right now although we're starting to book up performers. There's no upfront fee to use the space--it's a split of the door that is weighted in favor of the performers. I will also try to make reasonable accomodations for you to get into the space for rehearsal as needed (and as available).
Located at Franklin & Nicollet, Acadia has a restaurant/deli and also serves wine and beer. It's a good location close to downtown with parking nearby and the neighborhood is fairly diverse racially and culturally. The theatre seats I believe 60-80 depending on how we configure it and there's a proper stage and some decent tech capabilities.
If you want to do a cabaret, spoken word show, benefit, play, concert, etc. contact me with any questions you may have and to set a date. I'd be happy to meet you at the theatre to look over the space and answer any questions you may have.

Saturday, December 22, the Cultural Center of Minnesota and Intermedia Arts partner for the second year to present the Coming of Kuumba Children's Ensembles in Celebrating Kwanzaa: Kuumba Means Creativity. Special guests include DANCE ROOTS, DRUMPAC, and Zhakajii Molasses Theatre. The artists featured practice the traditions of classical West African percussion, song, theater, and dance.
Celebrating Kwanzaa: Kuumba Means Creativity will be held December 22, at 4:00 pm, at Intermedia Arts. Tickets are $10, or $5 for Intermedia Arts members and youth under 16. Kwanzaa, which means "first fruit" is an African American holiday that pays tribute to the rich cultural roots of American of African Ancestry. It is not a religious, political, or heroic holiday, but rather a cultural holiday. In 1966 Dr. Maulana Ron Karenga create Kwanzaa for people of color, based on seven moral principles, during seven days. The seven principles serve as a guideline for everyday living.
Traditionally, Kwanzaa is observed from December 26 through January 1. This year's Celebrating Kwanzaa will highlight the principle of Kuumba, which means creativity. Kuumba is the sixth principle of Kwanzaa and its concept is to make use of creative energies to build and maintain a strong and vibrant community.

Hello Everyone:
We are happy to announce some wonderful developments. We have finished the poetry curriculum which lists the poems that will be read on the mountains around the world. The poems selected for the Poetry on the Peaks curriculum focus on humanity and its relationship with nature and with each other. It features a wide range of poets like So Chong Ju, Gary Snyder, William Blake, Oodgeroo Noonucal, Alfonsina Storni, Leopold Sédhar Senghor and many others. We have mixed the selection so that Wislawa Szymborska's poem will be read on Mt. Bonnell and Mevlana Jeladuddin Rumi's poem will be read on Mt. Kilimanjaro and so on. Our objectives is to create cross-cultural dialogue and understanding, so the poems were selected so that they would be read on a mountain not associated with the poet's nationality. A free ebook anthology edited by William Pitt Root will be available in the summer of 2002 listing all of the poems read on the mountains.
Also, Michael Willoughby with Magnetcom and Mark L. Hall with Ego- East will be helping us with publicity.
Lastly, we will be setting up special readings around the world to focus on Poetry on the Peaks and increase awareness for each individual reading. For example, in July 2002 there will be a reading at Hugo House in Seattle for the Mt. Rainer climb; a reading at Ebenezer Baptist Church (spiritual home of Martin Luther King Jr.) in Atlanta and a reading at the New School, New York City for World Poetry Day. A press conference is being scheduled at the National Arts Cub for the end of February, 2002.

If you haven't already gotten it, you're lucky. This
thing is all over the net. In one of its incarnations, it
sends itself as a reply to unopened messages
sitting in your inbox.
I got buzzed from a blank text file, one of two files
that comes with the virus, I believe, as I know
enough not to open nefarious looking attachments.
I am currently deleting all attachments that come to
me and then writing the person to ask if they meant
to send me one, and that's been my advice to all
my friends.
If you get an attachment with two file extensions or
with underlines in the title, it's probably a
virus--delete it right away.
If you do get buzzed, you can go to
www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com and
download Internet Explorer and Outlook (which
come as a package). I also downloaded the
"critical components" link as well and everything is
actually better than ever with my PC. Thankfully,
this thing doesn't wipe out your hard drive . . . .

nightclub in downtown Minneapolis.
We are currently looking for vendors for this year's event. The
Acoustic Garage Sale is an annual fundraiser for Pastor Paul's
Mission
in North Minneapolis. Pastor Paul's supplies the homeless and
the needy with fresh groceries year round. We discovered that
there doesn't appear to be a shortage of food but there is
shortage of financing for the distribution and purchasing
groceries (at far less than consumer prices).
We also have a "Silent Auction", were we sell items donated by
the rich and famous rock stars that grace the stages of First
Avenue. Also this year photographer Daniel Corrigan is donating
a portrait sitting as an auction item. 100% of "Silent Auction"
proceeds go to Pastor Paul.
Here is how you can help. We open the nightclub up for one
night disguised as a garage sale and we need folks that want to
show and sell some wares to a unique audience.
If you would like to reserve a space for this years event contact
Mean Larry by e-mail or celephone 612-558-6227 or contact First
Avenue during business hours noon - 5pm 612-338-8388. The
space rental is FREE with a donation of sales dedicated to
Pastor Paul (most vendors generously donate 10- 50% of their
sales each year).
Thank you,
Mean Larry

There are two items in this week's update. Hope you find them
useful.
My apologies for the "calendar reminder" message that came
over yesterday. I am posting one time and ongoing events and
programming to this list's calendar for viewing, but did not realize
there was a reminder on it until it was too late . . . I will be more
diligent so that won't happen all the time. I'm very sensitive
about using this list to inform people rather than to be annoying!!
Please do feel free to send me information about your upcoming
events, shows, readings, releases, etc.
