Those of you who do festivals probably knew Dale. He was mostly a sound man in
recent years, but for years he played banjo, sang and told stories. He was at
one of the first StoryCamps as a featured performer.
If you have Dale Webber stories, please share them. Let's keep him alive through

Regional Storytellers Perform in Asheville TELLABRATION!
What: Tellabration! The International Celebration of Storytelling
When: November 22, 2008, 3:00 PM
Where: Asheville Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Cost: Donation: $5 per person
Asheville, NC—
It's Time for Tellabration! when thousands of people around the world
gather in small towns and big cities to celebrate storytelling during the week
before Thanksgiving. The international , celebration of storytelling,
known as Tellabration! serves to build grassroots community support for the
age-old art of storytelling. Since its beginning in 1988, the annual
observance has grown into one of the most impressive collective events in the
history of the modern storytelling revival.
Citizens from Asheville and surrounding communities join the global
TELLABRATION! Spirit for the thirteenth year, as Asheville Storytelling Circle
hosts the local event on Sunday, November 22, 2009, 3:00 PM at the Asheville
Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Featured tellers include Michael Reno Harrell an award winning songwriter,
as well as a veteran storyteller and entertainer who makes his home in the
Southern Appalachian Mountain town of Morganton, NC. His original songs
and stories have been described as "Appalachian Grit and Wit" but, as his
writing shows, Michael's awareness is much broader than the bounds of his
boyhood home or even the Southern Experience. Aside from being featured at
the National Storytelling Festival, International Storytelling Center,
Merlefest and the Walnut Valley Festival, for many years he's toured the US,
British Isles and through most of Europe. Michael's recordings have garnered
awards in Country, Americana and Folk circles.
The program also features Jimmy Lee Clayton, who has spent years
delighting audiences with hilarious tales -- many of which elaborate on the
perils of growing up on a farm in the Arkansas Ozark Mountains with mischievous
brothers. He moved from Polk County, FL, to Jonesborough, TN, after
devoting thirty years as a middle school teacher to "trying to tame some of the
wildest creatures known to mankind." Following his retirement he wrote a
book of fractured fairy tales which interjects his signature down-home style
into the Mother Goose tradition. Jimmy Lee has been featured at
storytelling events in Florida, currently tells with the Jonesborough Story
Guild
and picks banjo with the Old Timers Bluegrass Band at the Cranberry Thistle.
Also on the program are Asheville Storytelling Circle members Karen
Eve Bayne and Sarah Larson. Bayne is an international storyteller who
returned to NC after living and working abroad where she says her experiences
in
business and as General Manager of the London Philharmonic enriched her
storytelling. She is the director of the Do Tell StoryFest in Hendersonville,
and has been a featured teller at the Johnson Farm Storytelling Festival.
Larson is a world traveler who chose Asheville for her home. She has
collected stories from many cultures and enjoys telling Biblical stories to
children. Emcee for the event is puppeteer and storyteller, Pete Koschnick.
Donation: $5; proceeds enable area storytelling events and activities.
Tickets will be available at the door on the day of the event.
Information: 828-777-9177 or 828-658-4151.
TELLABRATION! 2009 is sponsored in partnership with Southern Highlands
Craft Guild and the National Storytelling Network.
(ED. Founded in 1995, the Asheville Storytelling Circle is a nonprofit

various cultures through storytelling, and nourishing the development of
emerging and established artists. Monthly meetings are held 3rd Monday, 7:00
PM,
at Asheville Terrace Apartments Community Room, 200 Tunnel Road.
Information: 828-658-4151. New members and guests welcome.)
DIRECTIONS to the Folk Art Center: From Interstate 40 East: Take Exit 55
to Highway 70. Turn left and go about one mile to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Go underneath the Parkway and exit right onto the Parkway entrance ramp.
At the stop sign, turn left (north) onto the Parkway. Go approximately
one-half mile and the folk Art Center is on the left.

Geneva,
As owner/moderator of Floridastory Yahoo Group, I really appreciate your efforts
to bring in new links. I have added the Tale Tellers of St. Augustine and I hope
your encouragement to other groups brings in more. Thank you for the push to
"get it done." I've been meaning to add it, but your request is what it took to
get me going.
Anyone who wants their group added can do it themselves, or if you send me the
details, I will add it for you. You can add and then click 'edit' to change or
add to your information. Send requests to have me add your group to
MLSweet@.... Thanks.
Thanks for all your hard work on behalf of storytelling, Geneva. Please continue
to post your activities and anytime you are looking for stories on a certain
topic, feel free to request ideas. Our list is not very active, but we have a
lot of talented members who would be glad to jump in with suggestions.

Recently the moderator of this group was gracious enough to add a folder to the
web site for this group when I requested it. The folder is called Florida
Storytelling Groups (see http://groups.yahoo.com/group/floridastory/links ).
I added the link for The Tampa Bay Area Storytellers Guild web site to the
folder. However, no other links have been added to it. Why don't all of you who
are members of a local storytelling group in FL add your group's web site to the
Links folder? That would make it convenient for any of us who are traveling in
FL to contact other storytelling groups.

Saw it on Good Morning America today. At least United is now willing to pay
up! What a mess!
We went to Nashville on Southwest for my daughter's PhD graduation ceremony
last year. Both trips - up and back - our bags were mishandled. We actually
watched them come off the plane and fall into a pile because the baggage
claim truck was not there. The trip up, we waited along with the rest of the
passengers for our luggage and nothing ever came. The Sky Cap we hired, went
looking and found them. Again they were piled up in a disorganized mess
outside the terminal. Many of the passengers were still standing around waiting
for their luggage when we left. We told as many people as we could what had
happened.
When we got home, the bag with my dresses and Jerry's suit was so damaged
the solid cedar suit hanger was broken into pieces, the plastic hangers were
shattered and the solid plastic corner liners of the suitcase were
shattered. Fortunately by some miracle, none of our clothing was damaged. I
called
Southwest after we got home and made a complaint. They gave us two $100.00 off
coupons on our next flight no questions asked. So some airlines do try to
make it right at the time. Ada

A story circulating among the musicians...be sure to check out the song on
youtube!
In the spring of 2008, Sons of Maxwell were traveling to Nebraska for a one-week
tour and my Taylor guitar was witnessed being thrown by United Airlines baggage
handlers in Chicago. I discovered later that the $3500 guitar was severely
damaged. They didn't deny the experience occurred but for nine months the
various people I communicated with put the responsibility for dealing with the
damage on everyone other than themselves and finally said they would do nothing
to compensate me for my loss. So I promised the last person to finally say no to
compensation (Ms. Irlweg) that I would write and produce three songs about my
experience with United Airlines and make videos for each to be viewed online by
anyone in the world. United: Song 1 is the first of those songs. United: Song 2
has been written and video production is underway. United: Song 3 is coming. I
promise. Follow me at http://twitter.com/DaveCarroll. Video Produced by Curve

Literacy Development in the Storytelling Classroom shows just how powerful
a tool storytelling can be for building vital language skills—not just
reading and writing, but speaking, listening, visual literacy, and information
literacy as well. It is an exceptionally rich and rewarding resource that
helps teachers and tellers work together to focus story time on language
development.
Moving grade-by-grade from pre-K to middle school, Literacy Development in
the Storytelling Classroom offers both research-based ideas and specific
lesson plans for using storytelling to promote literacy learning. Lessons
seamlessly integrate material from traditional domains of social studies,
science, math, and language arts, while incorporating elements from the
creative arts, such as music, visual arts, drama, dance, and folk crafts as
both
storytelling vehicles and curriculum extensions. The stories themselves in
this collection are drawn from the full spectrum of the world's cultures—
every child is represented, and every child will benefit from the concepts
and lessons in this remarkable book.
Title Features:
* Specific lesson plans for each level from pre-K to 5th grade
* Contributions from a variety of professional educational
storytellers and teachers who use storytelling in their classrooms
* Photographs of children engaged in storytelling lessons as well as
original children's art and additional diagrams and charts
* An extensive bibliography of print, multimedia, and online
resources on both the theoretical basis and practical applications of classroom
storytelling
* An appendix of national standards and abbreviations

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – Designated an American Masterpiece Touring Artist by
the NEA (National Education Association), Elizabeth Ellis brings her
poignant and hilarious storytelling to the Main Library on Sunday, March 22,
4 to 6 p.m. The “Divine Miss E” grew up in the Appalachian Mountains and was
a children’s librarian at Dallas Public Library before becoming a
professional storyteller. Ms. Ellis is a versatile, riveting teller of
Appalachian and Texas tales and stories of heroic American women, though her
personal stories are arguably her best. Invariably hilarious and poignant,
she is a repeated favorite at the National Storytelling Festival.
Ms. Ellis is performing at the Main Library auditorium, 100 S. Andrews
Avenue, Fort Lauderdale in honor of Women’s History Month. Selected a
“Listener’s Choice” at the 30th Anniversary of the National Storytelling
Festival, she is a recipient of the John Henry Faulk Award from the Texas
Storytelling Association and the Circle of Excellence Award from the
National Storytelling Network. She has mesmerized nearly a million listeners
in her thirty-year career as a professional storyteller.
Admirers have said that “Elizabeth Ellis’ voice sounds like chocolate
tastes. Her stories are just as addictive as chocolate.” A mother and
grandmother, Ms. Ellis makes her home in Dallas.
This free event, for adults and mature teens, is sponsored by the Friends of
the Fort Lauderdale Libraries, the Florida Center for the Book, and the
Florida Atlantic University South Florida Storytelling Project. The emcee
for the event is Caren Neile, Director, South Florida Storytelling Project.

Flagler County Library 11:00am - noon Saturday February 21st.
http://www.flaglerlibrary.org/story/pdf/Backintyme%202-09.pdf
Saturday, February 21st from 11:00am - noon must be the standard
story time. Frank and I, as Backintyme, will be doing a program
celebrating our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. (He did not like to
be called Abe, according to one researcher.)
If you are not going to the Tampa winter stories, come to Palm Coast
and help us sing "For Lincon and Liberty Too" or "We are Coming
Father Abraham with Three Hundred Thousand More."
With words like "Or from foul treason's savage group to wrench the
murderous blade, and in the face of foreign foes its frgments to
parade," it's sure to be a stimulating challenge. ;-) Ya gotta love
19th century lyrics! Words to those two songs will be provided.
Whatever you do tomorrow, have a great day doing it.

A Storytelling Workshop for Story Lovers taught by Master Storyteller Diane
Wolkstein.
Well-told stories entertain, teach, heal, nourish the soul and take us on
great adventures. To know a good story is to have a treasure no one can take
away. This workshop is for everyone who loves stories, wants to hear more
stories, or wants to learn to tell stories. In this workshop, we will
investigate
different genres of story: folk tale, fairy tale, epic and spiritual story
(Christian, Jewish, Taoist, Buddhist, Sufi). We will also experiment with
different storytelling techniques- verbal and physical - and each person will
have
an opportunity to tell a story. Wolkstein will discuss approaches to
developing your storytelling talents.
"Diane Wolkstein is surely one of the great storytellers of the 20th
Century, and what she brings to this most ancient of all arts is a deep
understanding of the ways of the heart matched with exquisite craftsmanship and
unmatchable passion for and skill with language."
Jean Houston.
