Can anyone recommend a handheld GPS unit suitable for marine use?
A seal in my Magellan Meridan Marine leaked and its shorted out and parts are no
longer available.
Magellan is offering a trade-in deal for a refurbished Triton hand held but I'm
looking for other opinions.
Thanks!

Heading to Acklins Island in February - one of the BEST places for
Bonefish on fly. Iwas there a couple months ago and it is fantastic.

Check out: www.captainjimlucas.com for full info, there are still a
couple spots available.

Also love to answer any questions you may have about Alaska, I fish
there in the summers at Yes Bay Lodge, a fantastic remote Lodge.

Glad to see there is a group dedicated to the flats, I have been
fishing the flats for over 30 years and even more now that I have
"retired" and gone back to fishing and guiding professionally.

Hello group!
I am going fishing out of kayaks next week of 7/15/06. I will be
fishing in, or near New Pass, next to Lovers Key, Estero Bay area.
I know it will be really hot water, and am wondering if anyone will
post or e-mail me tips for where and how to find them' (flats slams).
I will be using live green backs, thread fins, and a popper fly on the
other rod. Any info posted would be great!
Thank you,
            billy:)

Went out today and caught a TON of trout.. Water temp is 74 degrees
and things are really starting to get good..

I ran out of live shrimp, but had good luck with DOA plastic shrimp
dressed with shrimp scent.. (natural color)

Snook are starting to take white bait.. Too bad I left my net home..

Anyone there that fishes those bodies of water?? The red tide of last
year has just killed the fishing..

I went today and got skunked in Lemon Bay.. I tried fishing the deep
holes around Stump Pass, and then casted the mangroves with plastic
shrimp and surface lures.. Kinda discouraging.. I may take up pier
fishing..

I was gonna go out today, but it was just too cold for me.. We turned
the heat on last night!! I'll have to wait until after Christmas now..

Water temps have cooled to the mid 60's last time I was out, but the
days start getting longer soon..

I'm not a pier fisherman, but I may set up a cart to go after
sheepies.. The Boca Grande trestle is a good spot for them.. Close

Went out today.. With the red tide coming in, I went up into the
creeks.. Managed to hook a few flouder, but nothing was going on in
the passes or flats.. It was pretty strong in Stump Pass.. Made
your eyes burn.. Lots of dead fish.. Water temps are getting
better.. Hopefully, in a week or so things will be picking up in
Lemon Bay..

DOA shrimp were most effective.. Fished slow on the bottom..

Hi,

I'm a recent arrival from the north and am learning to fish in
southwest Florida.. I live near Lemon Bay and Charlotte harbor.. I
fish from a 15 ft. Scout Boat that I like a lot..

I've had good luck lately casting plastic shrimp in the passes and
cuts of Lemon Bay at the turn of the tides..

Hi, I'm new to the club. I've fished Tampa Bay without a boat for
over thirty years. I've found good snook holes in some of the
strangest places. One of the good ones is under the Howard
Frankland Bridge on the St. Pete side, right between the two spans.
There's a service road under each side of the bridge. Standing mid-
center and casting straight out about 30 to 40 feet with some live
bait (shrimp/pin) will give you an easy strike. The fun comes
trying to out-smart it and bring it to shore through the pilons.
When the sun hits the water just right you can see the schools of
snook running up and down. Ofcourse without a boat, you've got about
30 minutes to an hour before you're kicked out. I've learned alot
more hot spots, but I'd like to trade them for others. Shoot me a
line at snookkiller@...
Good Luck,
Charlie.
