Hi Jean,
First of all welcome here J. I am actually laying just a
couple of hundred meters away from you in the Marina Monnickendam (Steiger
K23). Funny that we haven’t seen each other yet on the Gouwzee.
We have another FC8 owner here from NL. I’m sure Wouter is going
to write soon as well. He just came to sail with me last weekend and we were talking
about getting a Dutch FC 8 group together.
What’s the name of your boat and how long do you have it already? I
would love to take a look at your furler. I am thinking about getting one too
but am undecided because of the known disadvantages. I sail my boat often alone
(With a Autohelm 2000ST) so having a furler would certainly help to handle the
boat by myself. Would be nice to meet up one of these days….I’m a bit
handicapped right now though. My new outboard engine was just stolen last week.

Hello
Have a FC8 in the Netherlands, Monnickendam, Hemmeland.
It is a great boat, tough to handle though. In racing there is an official crew
of 5, we are mostly 2 or 3.
Now we're going to mount a raymarine 1000ST+ Autohelm to run up the sails
easier.
I have a ProFurl furling system mounted, which makes shortening the (length of
the) headsail inevitable.
This is all not very true to the 'sporty' character of the ship, but I am not a
racer: just fell in love with the outlines of it, and am intrigued by its
sailing qualities.
The keel-system is a heavy working affair, and too vulnerable I guess, also
reading other stories.
I once removed it and had the spindle revised, which helped a bit.
Another fine website for FC8-lovers is http://www.fc8catalunya.com/
Hope to be able to share some experience, technical and on trimming and
sailing.
