Wesley,

Thank you for your very valuable reports which we will share. I include
it below and I ask our leaders to investigate and respond.

We are not sending more money to you until we have more reports as you
earlier had, how you are distributing the money and the phone numbers of
the people and where they are.

We can send phone credits for Burnt Forest as soon as possible if you
direct who to send them to. Is it Fred Yego +254 722 422 422 ? This is
truly urgent and thank you for your help. Please I ask us to call Fred
Yego and learn more about this, explain what we are doing and work
directly with him and send him phone credits as needed.

Thank you also for calling me and for adjusting your requests. $500 per
month for a youth counselor was excessive for our budget (perhaps not
for the UN), and so was $150 per month. As you noted, $50 is
appropriate for part-time work. However, we do this only for active
participants at our laboratory. I encourage you to sign up people for
our working groups such as Fighting Peacefully and Holistic Helping, let
us know who has given their permission and send me their emails ms@...
or to Janet Feldman kaippg AT earthlink.net Also, these are long term
needs so we will first go through a process of understanding the
individual worker, their values and how they can participate, and who
online would like to work with them and support their personal
projects. If you give a list of candidates, then I might approve
sending $10 of phone credits each for them to see what they can
accomplish for one week of work in the refugee camps. We are looking
for "volunteer counselors" as you write. Similarly the school needs we
work to meet if you have teachers or school directors who would like to
work directly with us over the long term, but especially if they inspire
us personally as Dennis, Kennedy, Samwel, David and so many are, you
yourself included.

Thank you for your patience as we learn to work together. You are a
fast learner!

Andrius

Dear Andrius and Dennis,

Since about three days ago, Eldoret town has returned
to normalcy. The only fear and concern now in our
region and I guess in the whole of Kenya is the
collapse of the mediation process that was led by
President Kufuor of Ghana. Majority of the people were
not happy with this outcome and now they have promised
to participate in the 3-day mass boycott announced by
ODM, set to begin on Wednesday the 17th January 2008.
If this boycott is not called off, it will again cause
another serious security and criminal repercussions in
our country. We hope and pray that this cycle of
violence will not be allowed to continue.

In the meantime, I would like to draw your attention
to the fact that we have a number of casualties in
hospitals and children whose parents lost every
property they had in the week-long violence. Some of
them lost their houses to fire and while others were
completely looted. Some of them find it hard to run to
the UN makeshift centers because they do fear meeting
some for the people they fought with or those that
participated in the war. Instead, they have decided to
stay put with their relatives, friends and those
daring ones have decided to stay in the destroyed
houses.

Today, I negotiated with one church organization which
has agreed to give maize to 22 families in a place
called Kimumu and on Monday another fifty (50)
Kalenjin families will be assisted with several bags
of maize in Burnt Forest. This is the place that has
seen the largest concentration of Kikuyus camping
outside of the centre. It is alleged that when the
Kikuyus were attacked by Kalenjins on 1st January
2008, they decided to revenge by burning and
destroying the houses and business premises of
Kalenjins in Burnt Forest. Accordingly Kalenjins lost
all of their property. Now they are starving and also
worrying where they will get unforms and money to pay
for their kids transport back to school. Even more
worrying is the lack of boarding fees for their kids.

Another problem is idleness of the youth in our area.
Most of them are idling in market centers but with
marked signs of disturbance arising from the violence
they witnessed. They have shown significant signs of
trauma and in this regard professional counselors have
suggested we organize various port leagues and
tournaments as away of drawing them together into
common venues where they will be identified and hence
remedial counseling is taken.

In view of the foregoing, we wish to request for
funding support as hereunder. All costs are in USD
1. Sport based psycho-social activities
1.Purchae of 20 balls- 300
2. Volunteer counselors (4)- 200
3. First Aid Kits (4)- 200

2. School assistance
1. school uniforms, bar soaps- 300
2. school fees for 30 pupils- 300
3. Boarding fees for boarders-300
3. Phone credits - 100

Thanks

WESLEY
