Fénechas was the Old Irish word for early or customary law. It is one of many forms of Brehon, or early Irish law. This is an open discussion list for those who wish to engage in academic discussions about the history, substance, mythology, literature, and context of this enlightened legal system. There are also comparisons with other legal systems, early and late, which spill into issues such as indigenous law, heritage protection, child welfare, restorative justice, and so on.
Brehon Law Project is an academic initiative for those who like to discuss and interpret early Irish law. This is not a campaign to revive the practice of this ancient system, but a lobby to encourage the translation, and publication of these important Irish texts, written between approximately AD 600 and 1600.
