Rules exist to be broken, and as such, my rule of author sub domains has been
broken.

Of all the translations I've had done, French has been the most popular, and so,
after a series of conversations with the crazy guy doing some translations of my
fics, we agreed to put together a site for any french fic he likes, not just
mine.

So, http://frenchsession.fanficauthors.net now exists. Ysfrael is in charge of
running the site, and choosing the stories.

I'm very interested to see how this pans out.

Interesting :D I can't read french, but it's nice to see a place for FFA translations in french. As for other french stories... well, as long as the original author okays it :)

In somewhat-related news, do we get to see the new Naruto/Hanabi fic you mentioned in a tweet some time ago? :D

The damn thing won't stop growing.  I swear, the idea was to do two "character has large penis" jokes, The first joke finished on page 5.   55k words later, the other one still isn't finished.  I work on it when I'm not acting like a magpie on the myriad of other stories I'm playing with.

Just as long as it's not a "Naruto inherited Kushina's... endowment" fic :D

:p I had the misfortune of reading such a fic... even worse than stealth!slash.

To return to the topic: any chance you we can get links to the original fics for the translations? I can recognize a couple of yours, but Naissance d'un Mage ( http://frenchsession.fanficauthors.net/Naissance_dun_Mage/Prologue/ ) doesn't ring a bell, unless it's a fic that's only available in French.

Clicking on the author name also gives me an error ( Vous devez être identifié pour contacter Ysfrael. %include(standardLoginForm) ), rather the showing the login box, like on the other author pages. Hopefully something easily fixed that won't take from your writing time.

I was wondering if we could get an update on the status of the authors on FFA.

Not necessarily fic states (although notices of upcoming updates or in-progress
works would be brilliant), but more of a "Still here, don't try to call dibs on
my belongings just yet" sort of thing.

Is there an official method to getting new authors? Any way to nominate authors?
With so many of the older members lapsing into non-activity (though seeing

So... any "official" guidelines and nomination process?

Bah, got interrupted and the rest of that sentence remained unwritten. Should have been:

With so many of the older members lapsing into non-activity (though seeing updates from Kokopelli this morning was brilliant), the site is getting quieter, and it would be a pity for it to turn into a ghost town.

As a sidenote to the admins/mods/etc: Is there any talk or activity between the authors? All FFA-related stuff I've seen in years have been some posts from Tim, and the announcements of new authors. (and that recent thread I started where only a handful of the authors replied). So... is there another mailing list where the authors keep in touch somehow? Even if just sporadic checkins?

There is an author-only group, but that is really only for problems with the site, and is rarely used.

New authors are controlled by Kinsfire, so direct suggestions to him directly.

The only real qualification, apart from the obvious ability to tell a good and unique story, is that they have completed something large.  It's easy to start something, but it takes work to finish it

After the recent discussions, I thought I'd try to revive the nomination thread we had waaaay back then on FFA. Hopefully this will generate more interest and speed up the rate of new author additions.

More discussion on this can be found on

The first such nomination / recommendation comes from Perspicacity, because I'm slow ;) Can be found on Beyond the Veil, for those who have accounts there: http://tinyurl.com/BtV-BajaB , and I have pasted it below.

Author Name: BajaB
Author URLhttp://www.fanfiction.net/u/943028/BajaB
Fandom(s): Harry Potter
Slash/Mature Content: Occasional mature themes

Summary of author's work: Harry Potter fanfiction; specializes in breezy humor with occasional explorations of dramatic themes. A master of the twist-ending, he has several brilliant stories of note that are very popular and highly reviewed on fanfiction.net. Novels: 2 (2 completed); Novelettes/Novellas: 9 (8 completed); Shorter works: 37

Why I think this author should be on FFA: BajaB is a proven, prolific talent in Harry Potter fanfiction writing with 48 stories to his credit and steady output since 2006. His prose style is simple and direct: clean and fast and, to borrow a term often applied to JKRowling's writing, "sturdy" writing that's there to deliver a killer (and often a twist) ending. And he ends his stories very well, among the best in the fandom. Essentially every story centers on a new idea, most of which have never been explored before. His work is diverse and sufficiently accessible as to appeal to a broad range of readers.

BajaB has two completed novels, The Memory Chest, and Fugitives of Azkaban, but he is probably best known for his popular shorter works, including Almost a SquibDark MarauderHarry the Hufflepuff, and The Substitute. Judging by the large number of reviews his stories have received on fanfiction.net, he is clearly a very popular author who would likely bring substantial traffic to the site.

Obviously I've been tied up with my original works and all my other commitments,
but I'm still around from time to time. I have the outline to the final
installment of The Inner Eye of Harry Potter amongst other things that will be
written along with the sequel to The Lie I've Lived.

One thing I didn't expect was a to actually make a minor breakthrough with my
supervillain novel - Confessions of a D-List Supervillain. It's currently the #1
kindle superhero novel on Amazon. Having a taste of success makes you even
hungrier for more, so I've been working hard to promote it, finish the second
Dead Eye novel and put together the 3rd Horror, Humor, and Heroes anthology
ready for publication.

But I still hope to work in some fanfic in the near future. Can't forget the
folks who helped me get my start. :)

Jim
