i love this photo also but after doing sooo much reserch i find that
the time frame sugested cant be right... i think perhapse it is much
more likley to be the early 1940s or even the late 1930's / the
girls are looking deliciously in there costumes and they remind me a
lot of boththe WIZARD OF OZ as well as there are island girls ..
the dress of the people on the station are more consistant with the
years i have mentioned .. --- In exquisite_family@yahoogroups.com,

You can write whatever strikes your fancy. If it conflicts too much
with some other part supplied by others then I as archivist will offer
questions or other material to allow the group's imagination to fill
the gap (or leave it as a gap and not worry about it) It is a collage
after all, it should have disjunction and conflicting elements. I think
that photo with the girls in costume is really amazing [
http://ontologicalmuseum.org/museum/exquisite-family/exquisite-008.html
] and I think that there could be a lot of different stories that are
created from looking at it. In typical surrealist style, you might just
turn your mind loose and let the story unfold as a surprise like your
'channeling' the story or something and then other's can do branching
tales that are inspired by whatever story you provide. If someone does
not like where your story is going they can pose as an expert with some
alternate story and provide some sort of evidence of why their spin on
it is right. Then there can be other parallel universes develop and it
could get quite confusing and that's all part of the fun of it. It will
be my job to attempt to keep the material organized in a way that is
interesting and as clear as possible. I will do this by researching
details, adding detail, asking questions, posting more images. Etc. If
anyone would like to add images then they will need to be donated to
the Ontological Museum so that eventually we can do a traveling
exhibition of the Exquisites and produce post cards, books, etc. as a
way to raise money for the museum. When you add any material a page
will be made for you as a reference page to track your participation.

I am waiting for members to continue the story and to invent, augment,
add to, contort, confuse, embellish the story based on the evidence
presented.
Please feel free to post your part of the story. I hope we can keep
this going long enough to actually produce enough material to publish a
book. In the meantime it will be a hypertext document.
the images we are working with at the moment are here:
http://ontologicalmuseum.org/museum/exquisite-family.html please
discribe how they fit into the family, the events happening in the
photos etc.

Ok I will integrate those in. So what needs to be happening at this
point is our group needs to be constructing narative for the images
already presented. Namely...
Dear Cecil,
I don't know where the picture are right now, but, if
the difinition is good enough, I am more than happy to
surrender copyright.
I will keep on hunting for further documents that
might be of interest to you and other relatives.
best regards,
Fabrice.

Greetings all,
This is a response to fabrice's placement of photos in the photo
files. One of the objectives of this project is to give contextual
value to otherwise randomly collected material in the ontological
museum's collection. So, if you wish to have any materials included in
the Exquisite Family Records then you will need to either donate the
materials in question to the museum (and send them in by post) or
donate copyright useage of the materials along with hi res digital
files of the materials assuming they are visual objects like photos.
Eventually I envision having an exhibition of the items used in the
story and hopefully a book at some point which would really be cool.
Meanwhile we will develop the web document into an online hyper linked
exhibition.
Thanks!

Thanks for that, Cecil.
Japonism (as I think it was called) was very
fashionable during the late Victorian period, as Japan
had just officially opened its borders to the Western
world.
This reminds me of the unbelievable life of Lieutenant
Jules Brunet, originally sent by the French government
to instruct the armies of Shogun Yoshinobu Togukawa in
the techniques of modern Western warfare. Eventually,
when called back by the French government, Brunet
decided to desert the army and stay with Togukawa.

If you want to stage a show in Paris, give me a shout.
I'm already planning on having a Day de Dada there and
working very hard on getting the contacts.
