Hello everyone,
We would like to thank everyone who attended our first annual BAP BBQ last
friday! We had a great turn out from both professionals and students, and the
professionals were very impressed. We hope you all had fun and will be
attending our future events.
Our next event is Meet the Professionals on September 30. There will be more
details about this event soon, so please keep checking your email and the yahoo
group to keep updated. Our goal is to have at least 50 students attend this
event and given the outcome of the BBQ I'm sure we can accomplish this.
Have a great week,

Hello everyone,
Thanks to the help of Career Services, we will be having a mock interview event
on Friday, September 25. There are four firms participating: LeMaster Daniels,
Moss Adams, Stewart & Associates, and Accountemps.
Mock interviews are an excellent way to prepare yourself for fall recruiting.
You will essentially have an interview and then will be given feedback on how
you did. This feedback is priceless and it could be very helpful when you
actually interview in the next few weeks.
The mock interviews are currently active on EagleAXIS. All you need to do is
submit a resume and then you should get more information as the firms decide who
will fill the limited time spots. Feel free to submit your resume to more than
one company--the more practice, the better. Also, there is limited time with
each firm and some firms are filling up their time spots quickly. If you submit
your resume to more than one firm and one of those firms has no time spots left,
you may have a chance with another firm.
Also, the mock interviews will be held at both the Cheney campus and the
Riverpoint campus. It should say on EagleAXIS where each firm is interviewing.
This is a great opportunity and I hope you all take advantage of it. The better
turn out we have, the better chance we have of getting more firms to participate
in this event in the future.
Please let me know if you have any questions. You can also contact Bernadette
Struck at Career Services, since she is the one who set up the event on
EagleAXIS for us.
Thank you,

Hello everyone,
At the end of this message is information about an upcoming community service
opportunity. I know there are a lot of pledges interested in becoming members
and only have the community service requirement left. We have decided to let
this event count towards those requirements. Since we are not actually hosting
this event, you will need to contact Jeff (contact information at the end of
this message) and set up a time to help volunteer. We expect you to choose
either the 11:00 to 2:00 time slot or the 3:00 to 6:00 time slot and to stay for
the duration of that time slot. One of our officers, Valerie Corsiglia, will be
there with a sign-in sheet where you are to sign-in and sign-out. If you don't
sign-in and out, you will not be given credit. I've also informed Jeff of all
of this.
If you are planning on volunteering and set a time to volunteer with Jeff,
please let us know when you are planning on volunteering so I can pass that
information onto Valerie and we can look for you.
This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and gain the community
service hours that you may need! All pledges, members, and nonmembers are
welcome.
Thank you,

Hi everyone,
I have been asked by Professor Megaard and Professor McGonigle to find students
who will be in Cheney or Spokane (or nearby) during the Winter break. There
will be something going on during the break that has to do with the accounting
program and finding a couple of new professors and we need accounting students
to get involved.
I have been told that we are currently in the process of finding new professors
for the accounting program since quite a few of our professors have retired or
left. Our current accounting professors are looking for students to come listen
to the new accounting professor candidates and give feedback on who they liked
and so on. This is a great opportunity to be a part of finding a professor that
you like and feel you can learn the best from.
It is very important that we get student participation so that the accounting
program can flourish. Without student support, we may not get the kind of
funding we need from the budget and we also may have a professor that isn't
necessarily the best fit for EWU. In order for the accounting program to
continue being a successful program, we need students to show that they care and
we need to get great professors. You have a chance to be a part of picking some
really great professors that will most likely be your professors in the future.
I need to get a list of students who would be interested in participating so I
can get the list to Professor McGonigle and he can show the Dean that we are
getting student support. I don't know the exact date and time yet, but as soon
as I know I will send another email out. Send me an email at ewu_bap@...
if you are at all interested in being a part of this.
Thanks,
Jenni Winter

Hello everyone,
Before the break, I sent out an email trying to get students to come listen to
new accounting professor candidates. Professor McGonigle has given me a few of
the details about who is coming and when they are coming. Here is the
information he sent me:
"We will be interviewing as many as 5 candidates for two positions in January
and possibly February. The most likely reason for the delay is related to the
most recent budget cuts in Washington State.
The first interviewee is Dr. Arsen Djatej who has applied for tenured associate
professor. He will interview the Thursday and Friday of the first week of class.
Arsen's teaching presentation will be at 10:30 on this Thursday in ACCT 352-01,
located in KGS 328. Students from Beta are welcome to attend, but may have to
stand during the presentation. Written recommendations would be greatly
appreciated by Friday, even if based on prior experience in Arsen's classes.
The next interview will be Mr. Davidson in ACCT 352-01 a week from Tuesday at
10:30. Students will be needed for his presentation. A Dr. Fessler will present
in Mr. Gambil's 357-01 later in January.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your support; it may
help save the accounting program."
Please let me know if you are interested in attending or if you have any
questions. This is not an official BAP event, it is just very important to the
continued success of the accounting program. Your support is greatly
appreciated!
Thank you,
Jenni Winter

Hello BAP members, pledges, and accounting students,
To kick off Winter quarter we will be having a Beta Alpha Psi bowling event on
Friday, January 22nd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. It will just be a fun social event
to get to know the other members, pledges, and/or people who are interested in
BAP.
The event will be at Lilac Lanes in Spokane (1112 East Magnesium Road Spokane,
WA 99208-7393). It will cost $10 per person for the two hours of bowling and
shoe rentals. We are also planning on bringing some snacks as well.
Because this is a casual event, there is no need to dress up. Also, anyone is
welcome to attend. This is a great way to get to know the officers and members,
as well as have fun bowling! If you are interested in running to become a BAP
officer for next year, this is also a great way to show the current officers
that you are serious about BAP.
If you are interested in attending and/or have any questions, please send me an
email at ewu_bap@... and let me know so I can reserve enough lanes for
everyone. Also, if you need a ride, we should be able to help find a ride to
the event.
Thank you,

Hello Faculty Advisors-
I am the Alumni Representative on the Beta Alpha Psi Board of Directors and will
be attending your Northwest Regional Meeting April 9-10, 2010. As many of you
may know, it is a strategic goal of the Board of Directors to increase alumni
involvement at the regional and annual meetings. For the past two years, we
have sponsored Alumni Panel sessions during each regional meeting as a way to
invite alumni to speak to, and interact with, students on a personal level.
These were very popular sessions with the students and we will be having the
same session at all eight regional meetings this coming spring. I am reaching
out to you in regards to identifying alumni from your colleges/universities that
you would like me to invite to participate in this panel. The panel will focus
on a variety of topics including: tips for success during school/work/life,
finding your passion in your career, integrity in difficult situations, Beta
Alpha Psi involvement, adjusting to new careers, public vs. private, networking,
CPA exam, etc.
We are looking to put together a panel of 4-5 alumni from diverse backgrounds
(public and private accounting, different levels, academic majors, industries,
etc.) from your colleges/universities as these individuals can relate best to
the students attending the conference. We are targeting alumni currently in the
Spokane, WA area who are available to participate in a one-hour session on
Saturday, April 10th. Please let me know if you have any alumni in the Spokane
area that you would like me to invite to participate. Your prompt response is
appreciated. I plan on sending out emails to the identified alumni this month so
that we can finalize the panel before the alumni are wrapped up in busy season.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Thank you for
your time and consideration.
-Brad Schultz
Alumni Representative
Members of Beta Alpha Psi,
The current officers of BAP are looking to find BAP members that are interested
in becoming officers for next year. We are making an effort to do something a
little different this year--we want to have the new officers elected and put in
place by the end of winter quarter or the beginning of spring quarter at the
very latest. This means we need to know who is interested in becoming an
officer as soon as possible.
Only members of BAP can be officers, so if you are not a member yet, you need to
get your requirements fulfilled and dues paid as soon as possible. We are
looking for people who are involved in BAP, meaning you attend most of the
events and we know who you are. This year is a little different in that we are
even considering having interviews to make sure that we get officers that are
truly serious about BAP and are hard-workers, as well as make sure that the
officers all work well together. We need people who are serious about BAP
because our chapter will not survive without people who are willing to put in
the effort.
The rewards of becoming an officer are endless. The leadership and
organizational skills you acquire are priceless. Also, accounting firms are
VERY interested in students who were/are officers of BAP. It is an experience
that gives you something to talk about during interviews and many of the people
you will interview with will either have been a member of BAP or know someone
who was. If you want a job, I suggest you strongly consider this opportunity.
As an officer you have so many more connections with accounting firms and
professionals than any of your other classmates. For example, I knew most of
the people I interviewed with during fall recruiting BEFORE I interviewed with
them. This is a huge leg up in a very competitive industry.
This is not to say that there isn't a lot of work that goes into becoming an
officer. This is why we are looking for serious students who are willing to
work hard in order to obtain great results.
This quarter we are hoping to have an event where interested students can come
ask current officers questions about what they really do and how much work
actually goes into being an officer. Also, you can hear the experiences of how
BAP has been rewarding for those officers. As I stated before, we are also
planning on having somewhat casual interviews for each officer position towards
the end of the quarter. During spring quarter, the new officers will then be
able to shadow the current officers in order to be better prepared to take on
the next year.
Please let me know if you are at all interested in becoming an officer by
emailing me at ewu_bap@... and let me know if there is a certain officer
position that you are most interested in. At the end of this email I will put
the officer descriptions that I got from the BAP website so you can see a
general description of the duties. Remember, we know who attends each event and
a student who is involved and attends the events is more likely to become an
officer than one who is not.
Thank you,
Jenni Winter
BAP President
