Just taking the snippets below, from FrenchBob I would say that FORTUNATELY
these other MOOCs overlap with EVO. This good fortune pertains to the
MultiMOOC EVO session where we find it useful to have a look at what's
going on in other MOOCs while conducting ours, and having one going on
right then is better in many ways than having a look at artifacts left
online by a MOOC that's over and done, because with a live one you get the
benefit of experiencing some of the interaction taking place around it.
Last year, we coincided with Change MOOC, for example.

I have just Scooped a MOOC which is developed in Canvas and I point out in
my scoop some of the correspondences (and differences) it might have with
EVO MultiMOOC, which is a cMOOC
http://www.scoop.it/t/edumooc/p/3972440584/the-mixably-open-online-course-mooc-p\
art-i-module-structure

When talking about MOOCs we need to distinguish cMOOCs from xMOOCs. I
think someone mentioned MOOC MOOC in this thread, as having a syllabus that
"participants are expected to break." If the syllabus is not sacrosanct,
but the learning derives from exploring the suggested syllabus in whatever
direction individual participants want while benefiting from interaction
with others in the network associated with that MOOC, then this is likely a
cMOOC (connectivist). Coursera is an example of an xMOOC platform where
the learning outcome is often expected to be mastery of a set syllabus with
possibly a certificate at the end ascertaining that the user has met the
standard.

MultiMOOC may or not be a true MOOC (in massive terms), but we hope it will
bring on a discussion of what MOOCs are and their potential for personal
learning and education in general. Along the way we will speak with Dave
Cormier, who coined the term MOOC in 2008.

But today Sunday Jan 6 at 1300 GMT, I will be speaking with MultiMOOC
co-moderators Ana Cristina Pratas and Tony Gurr (Claire Siskin is sick,
might need to rest) in the Webheads Elluminate room. The discussion will
be spontaneous with co-moderators themselves trying to figure out what this
course will be about. Should be interesting, and if you want to join us
and help us work out how to proceed with the topic, please do. If you are
interested, you qualify, and your input into our recording is welcome.

You can find out more (e.g. the link to join the session) about this and
other synchronous events we've lined up for MultiMOOC here:

Hi all,

Another reminder, there is an EVO kickoff session starting with a Google Hangout
at 14:00 GMT this Sunday Jan 13, hosted and MC'd by Jeff Lebow.

Time: 14:00-16:00 GMT

	 * http://tinyurl.com/2013jan13gmt1400

If required, Jeff is amenable to streaming from
Elluminate: http://learningtimesevents.org/webheads/

What is this about?
This is an annual EVO event where moderators for the EVO sessions listed
at http://evosessions.pbworks.com meet from 1400 GMT in Google Hangout to talk
about their sessions and take questions from interested participants.

Ten people at a time can be in a Hangout, but the event is streamed so that
almost anyone can listen to the stream while it is being broadcast or later via
the recording.  The stream can also be fed into Elluminate, where people can
meet up or get help if they are having trouble with Google Hangout.

The stream URL or widget will appear at http://webheadsinaction.org/. There is
also a text chat there.  You can visit there now to see the example of the Dec
9 practice session, which includes Nina's recipe for yummy Granola.

Anyone wishing to comment on the stream, or get help with Hangout can come
to http://webheadsinaction.org/ and use the text chat there, or
visit http://learningtimesevents.org/webheads/ for text and possibly voice
chat.

Or simply reply to this email with your questions :-)

The URL for the hangout will be available in those places and will be published
here at launch time.

Hi Laura,

We appreciate your willingness to share with us. This URL explains how:
http://learning2gether.pbworks.com/

When you are ready to propose a session, you can contact me or you can
write it in directly on the wiki.

You can reach me at vancestev@.... To write on the wiki you will
need to join it, but because of spam problems, if I don't recognize you I
will accept you there as a 'reader'. If Laura Liberto requests access,
since you have written us here and now I know who you are, I will make you
a 'writer' but if anyone has trouble with that just contact me at my email
address or through this list.

Some people contact me and negotiate times and topics; others just join the
wiki and write them in.

The more the merrier :-)

Vance

The thing about Australia is that it's so big that there can several very large
bushfires and most of the
country - especially those living in the cities - is pretty much unaffected. And
this time - so far - there have
been no large fires in my home state of South Australia this summer. And I'd
like it to stay that way as our
daughter has just moved into a high fire risk area. High fire risk often also
means really beautiful
countryside. And that's why people choose to live in these places. They are much
nicer than cities but they
are a fire risk in summer in southern Australia.

Thanks again Aiden,

- Michael

Hi all,

As you know, EVO sessions start officially Monday Jan 14, but the day
before Jeff Lebow is hosting a kick-off event, and he and I are staging a
practice session the day before that, which is to say tomorrow, Saturday
Jan 12 at 7:15 GMT.

These events are announced here:
http://learning2gether.pbworks.com/w/page/32206114/volunteersneeded#Nextupcoming\
events

The one on Saturday is a talk about EVO with a roomful of live people in
Abu Dhabi and if you want to join us you can get some Hangout practice --
check the link above for the URL for the Hangout to appear just before the
event, or listen in on the stream at http://webheadsinaction.org/live and
if you want to join us you can indicate that in the text chat at that URL
and Jeff will find a way to get you in.

The Real Thing is from 1400-1600 GMT on Sunday Jan 13. This one will start
out as a Hangout but will move to the Webheads Elluminate room for people
who are more comfortable there. The Webheads room is at
http://learningtimesevents.org/webheads/. You can find more details by
scrolling down the link above or visit the direct link here:
http://learning2gether.pbworks.com/w/page/32206114/volunteersneeded#SunJan132013\
JeffLebowhoststheEVOElectronicVillageOnlineMegaKickoff

Here's what we expect will happen on Sunday

13:00 GMT, Jeff will start the hangout and we'll start posting it's URL
wherever we can think of
13:30 (all times GMT) we'll start gathering in the Hangout for mic checks
and whatnot
  - Jeff will set up the stream and we'll check that it works
  - Jeff will plant his audiobot in the Webheads Elluminate room so that the
stream can be heard there
14:00 Jeff starts recording what's going on in the Hangout
  - Those in the hangout can interact with us via voice and video (or avatar
if it's too early for you :-)
  - Those listening to the stream at http://webheadsinaction.org/live can
interact in text chat there
  - Those in Elluminate can hear the stream and interact in txt chat there,
but the audiobot will have the mic
15:00 apprx we assess whether to continue in Hangout or move the show over
to Elluminate
  - Jeff's audiobot in Elluminate will release the mic and feed what is
happening there to the stream
  - Participants in Elluminate can interact in audio and txt chat
  - Those in the stream at http://webheadsinaction.org/live can listen only
but interact in text chat there
16:00 is Jeff's bedtime and Vance's dinnertime

Some caveats:
  - It might be best if all participants try to txt chat in the stream while
the Hangout is in progress. Txt chat in Elluminate is not visible to the
stream chat and visa versa
  - If you are listening to the stream and then join the hangout or
Elluminate room, mute the stream to avoid double audio
  - If planning to speak in the Hangout, please use a headset to avoid echo.

Thanks and hope to see you at one or both of these sessions.

Hi all,

*The precursor to the EVO megalaunch today went really well, with Jeff and
I engaging a room full of people as if he was one of the live presenters. I
blogged it here*
http://learning2gether.posterous.com/jeff-lebow-hanging-out-at-vance-stevenss-li\
ve

*There you will find the YouTube recording that Jeff made from the Hangout
and links to other recordings we made while trying to uStream for Ahmed in
Saudi Arabia, who expressed an interest in participating in the event at a
distance, so we tried to accommodate him, and we kept in touch with him
throughout the event via one of the forums at http://taedtech.ning.com*
*
*
*One thing I'm not clear on though, were you in the live audience in Abu
Dhabi or were you in the stream at http://webheadsinaction.org/live ?*
* *
*Don't forget we do something like this again tomorrow at 14:00 GMT,
details at *

events

Hope to see you there,

Dear Vance, with you and Jeff, I could only expect a massive streaming
success!

I wish I could be there for the launch, but will be on the road... Who
knows if I am able to connect in google hangout. Is it possible in an iPad?

I hope many of you can join the EVO kick off tomorrow.

Hi everyone,

Some of us on this list are quite busy with EVO, myself included, but I'd
like to welcome a new webhead member to this list

jamesmi - Comment from user:
I am recommend by an online course to join this group in order to communicate
with other group members.

Also, we've had some interesting sessions on Learning2gether lately, and
many coming up

So far this year we've had three sessions about EVO, all archived at
http://learning2gether.posterous.com/
On Jan 6 I recorded a discussion of the EVO MultiMOOC session in
Elluminate. On Saturday Jan 12 I presented on EVO at a live event in Abu
Dhabi and streamed that with the help of Jeff Lebow, who also hosted the
EVO Mega-launch next day, which was indeed an interesting event. You can
see the YouTube recording at http://webheadsinaction.org, or find its link
below, along with links to recordings of the other events as well.

Today Jan 16 at 1300 GMT I'm scheduled to talk in Elluminate to the EVO
session Becoming a Webhead on that, and what Webheads has become, into here:
http://learning2gether.pbworks.com/w/page/32206114/volunteersneeded#Nextupcoming\
events

You can scroll down that link to see that Dave Cormier is scheduled to talk
to us on Sunday Jan 20 on the topic of MOOCs. Dave coined the term MOOC
and has exceptional insight into the movement, having been involved in
several MOOCs since the first one in 2008. Dave is scheduled to talk with
us at 1400 GMT either in a Hangout or in Elluminate, to be announced at the
link above.

Hope to see you at any of these events, and to learn more about your EVO
events if you would like to post announcements to this list.

Best,

Vance, thanks for the update. I've been taking part in the Education Technology
and Media MOOC which started Monday. Dave Comier was in the session held last
night. http://etmooc.org/archive/

I see that Dave will be hosting on Sunday. If possible I hope you'll do this in
Elluminate since an unlimited number of people can participate vs I think the
Hangout is still limited to 10.

Dear members of evoline, GISIG, learningwithcomputers and Dogme, although
the subject of this message is not central to your list's primary focus of
interest, I would like to share the link to Susan Hillyard's presentation
for YLTSIG on Teaching English through Drama in Special Schools in
Argentina in the belief that it may well interest some of you.

|| If my assumption is wrong, please delete here. ||

Dennis (Newson)

I am delighted after an overlong delay to be able to announce that the
recording of Susan Hillyard's presentation in the IATEFL YLTSIG online
series can now be released : *English in Action. Teaching English through
Drama in Special Schools in Argentina *.

http://vimeo.com/56467297

I warmly recommend this 90 minute recording. This is partly because of
Susan's inspiring and energizing presentation on the work she and her team
of 17 teachers have done with groups of severely deprived and disturbed
children. This includes the ill and terminally ill, children from
orphanages, those from schools in economically deprived areas, those with
severe behavioural problems and those with an array of learning
difficulties. But it is also because, in my view, she and her colleagues
demonstrate irrefutably how excellent results can be achieved for all
young foreign language learners by:

    - employing an approach to foreign language teaching based centrally on
the needs, including the emotional needs of the learner and not on an
    externally imposed text-book driven syllabus,

    - seeing foreign language learning not as a matter of doing grammar
rules and exercises and learning vocabulary but as an opportunity to
establish and build up a learner's self-confidence and sense of individual
worth working with aspects of language - rhythm and story telling, for
example - and using drama techniques as possible routes into self
    expression and meaningful communication.

As Susan herself says: " These approaches are not just for the
disadvantaged. They are really best practice. They work with the gifted,
too."

Dennis

Hi,

I hope YGroups is back to working now, and also that it delivers all the
backlogged msgs. I don't think we've had a service interruption there in
the past decade. You get what you pay for, I guess.

I scooped my blog post where I put the Elluminate recording link (and also
the link to the BaW wiki page with the nice screen shots). Incidentally,
after the session ended, I copied and pasted all the captured web cam shots
on our whiteboard to a Paint bitmap so I could tease them apart into a
collage where everyone was represented, and that's the image you see at the
start of the Posterous post.

I scooped the post AFTER I had rendered the mp3 audio from the Elluminate
recording (if you want to do that for your recordings, download Publish
from the Elluminate site for free - only works on Apple though, go
figgah!!). I uploaded the mp3 to the Posterous blog on which I have
installed Feedburner. That might sound complicated, but when you set up
Feedburner and give it your blog URL it asks you if you are a podcaster,
and just by ticking YES at that point, your blog becomes a podcast, where
any media you upload will be included in its RSS feed.

Now an interesting affordance of Scoop.it is that if your post includes an
audio file, it sometimes (not always, 90% of the time, and the other 10%
drives me nuts) puts your recording up at Scoop.it in a media player so
anyone hitting on the scoop can play the audio right there.

What'll they think of next? Try it:

Hi Dan,

I missed Dave's session (didn't know about it! not clued in to ETMOOC quite
yet) - that seems to be a problem with MOOCs as we're finding out in
MultiMOOC. They don't come and get you. You have to go to them.

If they seem worth going to though, people will get there eventually.

Regarding whether to use Elluminate or Hangout with Dave, I was thinking
Hangout ** IF ** we can stream it. In this case you would come to
http://webheadsinaction.org and find a live stream you can listen to, and
you could interact in the text chat there. That's as much as most people
do in Elluminate.

So, to repeat, we could have unlimited people listening in the stream and
interacting in txt, with the possibility of anyone (up to ten at a time,
people can take turns if needed) appearing in the Hangout.

Alternatively, Elluminate, which is a lot easier to organize, but not as
cool a learning experience as Hangout integrated with Drupal and Titanpad,
streamed and recorded in YouTube.

What do the rest of your think. Who is likely to come to this? If coming,
do you prefer Hangout or Elluminate?

Vance

Then at 1500 we'll move along to Google Hangout where Benjamin Stewart is
convening a TILL Sunday discussion on ePortfolios, which we're starting to
talk about in EVO MultiMOOC,
http://goodbyegutenberg.pbworks.com/w/page/61341848/Me-Portfolios_2013

Hangouts are created on the fly, so their URLs are not generated until just
before the event. Normally they are shared within circles. If Benjamin
Stewart is not sharing circles with you (in which case you can find where
he is hanging out via his portfolio), there are other ways to join us

    1. you can Skype vancestev for more information
    2. Also Vance will remain a while in Elluminate
http://learningtimesevents.org/webheads/ with voice and recording off,
but you might find me there for text chat directions to the Hangout

If the Hangout doesn't work for you, there is a backup session available
for 1500 GMT, when Pete Sharma and Gavin Dudeney will hold The great ICT
Debate on IWB

Here's more information:
IWBs: a fantastic teaching tool or non-interactive white elephant?
Interactive whiteboards (IWBs) have been around for a long time now. Few
technologies have attracted such controversy. For some, they are a powerful
teaching aid, while for others they are nothing more than an expensive
waste of space, hopefully soon to RIP. Join us for this fascinating debate
on the merits and future of the interactive whiteboard! Pete Sharma will
be defending IWBs, and Gavin Dudeney will be opposing.

So if you're awake and cogent between 1400 and 1600 this Sunday, you are
welcome to join any of these events you think will benefit you and others.
And if you're not, all sessions are being recorded.

I advise you not to click on the link. It looks like a harmless image but
the php part of it suggests it's not.

Is Davis Brown still with us? If so, please let us know if you are on top
