Hi Anne,
Well, there is Phonetizer <http://www.phonetizer.com/>, which might work with
an existing quiz maker.

Neat! Yes, may work with something like Quia, Wordchamp or Quizlet. I'm asking
on behalf of someone else so will pass this on.

Hi everyone,

Learning2gether is alive and well another week with a 1500 GMT Dec 4 chat with
Peggy George, one of the organizers of the K12 Online Conference which is
running now through Dec 13.

There is more information about this remarkable free online conference all over
the web but a good place to start is here: http://k12onlineconference.org./

There is also more information about the conference and Peggy's part in it at
our Learning2gether upcoming events page here:
http://learning2gether.pbworks.com/volunteersneeded

Thanks to our volunteers we always seem to have great presentations, but we
never seem to have presentations lined up very far in advance. If you'd like to
give one please let us know, or join the wiki and write one in.

Meanwhile, here are the details of the one this Sunday:

Peggy George joins us to talk about
The K12 Online Conference showing now at a computer near you

What?
The 2011 edition of the annual K12 Online conference runs from now through
December 13,
http://k12onlineconference.org/. The conference features dozens of asynchronous
presentations plus one live event at the culmination called "The AfterGlow"--
all hosted by some of the most transformative educators in the field. See the
schedule at
http://k12onlineconference.org/?page_id=824 where you can access links to all of
the blog posts and recordings for each presentation.

Peggy George is a retired elementary school principal and university pre-service
education professor in Phoenix, AZ who is currently one of the co-hosts for the
weekly Classroom 2.0 LIVE webinars on web 2.0 tools for educators. She describes
herself as one of the conference "workerbees" otherwise known as an "organizer."
The main creator/convener is Wes Fryer and there are 4 strands to the
conference, each with their own conveners. Peggy's main responsibility right now
is to upload the presentations daily to iTunesU at the same time they go live on
the blog. There's a video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n55pl4oUwe0 that
shows how to subscribe to Classroom 2.0 iTunesU recordings, and I'm sure Peggy
will show us how to do that for K12 recordings as well. Specific instructions
for subscribing to the K12 Online Conference iTunesU recordings can be found
here: http://k12onlineconference.org/?p=646

Peggy might also do a web tour of the conference blog and even play a teaser
video in web tour which would open it in participant browsers. She can also show
us the slides she prepared for a Classroom 2.0 LIVE show Nov 12 with Kim Caise
and Lorna Constantini. This is the link to the blog post with the recording,
chat, links, and LiveBinders link with all links shared during the session.

By the way, I still couldn't send the recording to you, because even though I

soon as I figure it out I'll send it to you, so please bear with me!

Dear Derya Kulavuz-Onal,

The Newsademic COVER STORY and accompanying classroom activities are attached to
this message.

In the full issue we bring you news of some money matters. In Australia, a new
law has been suggested that means mining companies will have to pay more tax.
Read our report to find out why, and what the country plans to do with the extra
money. Meanwhile, the Oxford English Dictionary's chosen Word of the Year is
related to the money problems experienced by many people around the world. And
an anonymous collector has paid almost US$400,000 (£248,500) for a very special
piece of space memorabilia.

On November 25th, a campaign called 16 Days to End Gender Violence began. It
starts on November 25th each year because this is the International Day for the
Elimination of Violence Against Women. Our report explains the background of
these annual events and why they are held.

Hi Derya,
Here's a great, free tool you might try for sharing large recordings and you
don't even have to zip them. :-) It's called GE.TT and you can find it here:

http://ge.tt/

You can sign up for a free account that provides you with 2GB of storage. You
just click on the link for "Select Files" to choose what you want to share. You
give it a title so it's easy to know what is on the link. It will open a popup
window for you to find and choose the recording you'd like to share. As soon as
you have selected it you will receive a link that you can share with anyone so
they can go to that page and download it. I love it because it doesn't go
through email and you don't have to worry about whether it is too big. Anyone
you send the link to can go to the site and immediately download it to their
computer. It's become my new favorite tool for sharing video/audio recordings.
You can even put many recordings on one link and it's like having a folder of
the files available for download. There's a short video/screencast on that home
page to explain exactly how it works.

Maybe that will work for your recording sharing with Ayat.

Thank you Peggy,

I first wanted to share this material with all the other webheads, to let you
know that there is this website (?) called Newsademic. I regularly get emails
from them such as this one, a reading material on global news along with
activities for ESL cLasses. Then, I wanted to send a personal email to Ayat
first. And I accidentally sent an email to webheadsaddressing it to Ayat :-)
Though I'm glad that I did so (as I feel I catch two birds with one stone here
:-) ), I apologize for this mistake..

Hope all the webheads around the world are having a nice Sunday!

Hugs,
Derya.

Vance, Peggy,

Thanks for the link to the recording. I'm listening to it right now, and
have already bookmarked the K12 Online Conference Schedule to keep track of
the links to all those videos for future perusal. BTW, you're helping me a
lot with ideas about how to listen to the recordings on my iphone. This is
very useful. Thanks!

Mary

Dear All
firstly, sincere apologies for cross-posting.

We are really pleased to invite you to join us for an Online Conversation
with Harry Kuchah, organised by IATEFL YLT SIG (Young Learners and
Teenagers Special Interest Group) this *Sunday 11**th** December at 3 pm
(London time)*.

http://yltsig.wordpress.com/

*Teaching very large classes in Cameroon. *

Harry is currently studying for a PhD in the Centre for Applied Linguistics
at the University of Warwick – UK where he also works as Senior Teaching
Fellow.

Previously, he worked for fourteen years as an English language teacher and
teacher trainer at both primary and secondary levels in Cameroon, his home
country. His teaching career has essentially been in classes as ‘small’ as
between *80* and *235* children and teenage learners from primary to
secondary schools in Cameroon.

Thanks to networking with other colleagues through the local teachers’
association, Harry has been able to find fun in the classroom through
pragmatic and transformative responses to his classroom realities.

Find out more about Harry, check all the links to the meeting and get your

Hi Webheads--
This is a CfP for a university group that might manage a project using laptops
for elementary students.
Eventually, if the project is funded, there will be a need for classroom
exchanges, but meantime, this is a big project for a university to undertake,
but might fit with your situation.
Please contact the website and Plan Ceibal, not me or Deborah, for further
details.

From: Deborah Healey <dhealey@...>
Subject: [CALL] Request for Proposals - Plan Ceibal
To: CALL@...
Date: Thursday, December 8, 2011, 11:57 AM

This is an RFP (LPI in Spanish) for a very interesting CALL-related
project in Uruguay. Plan Ceibal is a One Laptop Per Child
initiative. Students in elementary and secondary public schools have
already gotten XO laptops (running Linux Sugar), and there's been
some work on developing applications in Spanish and training for
secondary teachers. Now Claudia Brovetto has been put in charge of a
program to use the XOs for English language learning. The plan, in a
     nutshell, is to have

     a) Live videoconferencing once a week or every two weeks with a
native speaker English teacher (in classes with and without a
     trained English teacher)

     b) Material that the students can use with the teacher as
facilitator, but that does not require much English on the part of
     the teacher (with Spanish-language help)

     c) Material that the students can use on their own at home (with
     Spanish-language help)

     d) Inservice training for teachers - some onsite and some remote

A university partner is expected to be in charge of the project,
working closely with Plan Ceibal. Publishers are being asked to
respond about the materials part of this, but they would be under
the supervision of the university partner. Inservice trainers would
come for short visits and work mostly online. They'd need to speak
Spanish well. The idea is to start with 20 schools as part of a
pilot. If the pilot works well, it would expand to 1000 schools
     across Uruguay.

The response to the RFP can be in Spanish or English.

If you are at a university with interest in this project or work
with a publisher who may be interested, please check the website
below. I did some consulting with Plan Ceibal about this project and
am willing to respond to some basic questions, but the definitive
answers will come from Plan Ceibal people.

vocatorias-vigentes&Itemid=82
As an aside, I was amazed at
the buzz around the laptops. One way to effect educational
change from above is for the President's office to distribute
350,000 laptops to children, then expect the Ministry of
Education and teachers to deal with it.

collaborate with you with some ideas that might inspire others to give a
bit of a twist to their classrooms that are packed with natural digital
artists!

Dear All

Just a quick reminder for the online event organised by *Iatefl
YLTSIG*today, hoping you will be able to join us.

We are really pleased to invite you to join us for an Online Conversation
with Harry Kuchah, organised by IATEFL YLT SIG (Young Learners and
Teenagers Special Interest Group) this *Sunday 11**th** December at 3 pm
(London time)*.

*Teaching very large classes in Cameroon.*

Find out more about Harry, check all the links to the meeting and get your
time zone information here :

Looking forward to meeting you today.

The above will take you to some very, very slick, very fun, use of
technology. It will also admit ALL of you to the University of
Oregon, -- in God's country, in the Great Northwest of North America.

NOTE: If you go to
http://www.migratetouo.com

you can personalize -- you only need to fill in the first and last
name and pick any "location" - then click continue. I suggest reduce
the very long url using http://tinyurl.com

NOTE: Use the custom feature with Tinyurl.com with the name of the
person you "admit". For some reason, I "lose" the "custom" feature
after about five url's that lead to the same server. (Most of mine
end up: http://www.migratetouo.com/Vance

Enjoy

John
