Dear webheads, it was my personal open question i had no answer for the past
month: Which challanges are my job-future.
Usually i hate not being enabled to answer questions.

So yesterday I got the one call, you may all know in your own cv: "We made a
decision and selection and are willing to work with you, if you want :-)" So in
the near future my challenge will be to coordinate a project at the virtual
campus rhineland-palatinate. OK. It's a half time - and only a time contract -
but that's much for nowerdays. And it is related to teaching and learning over
web-based services - and therefore it's 4 me. ;-)

If you could see me, you would recognize, feeling very happy. Using this mesage
to thank you for your wonderful work inside this real community.
With best greetings from Coblence
Andreas

Yet another thing that makes Webheads special is how notices such as this
bring such an outpouring from list members. It shows how many people are
reading what goes on with this list even if many are silent on most of the
issues. It also shows us that what really matters to people is to a great
extent the professional interest shared by everyone on this list, that's why
we're here in the first place, but to an even GREATER extent the human
interest. People here are interested in one another first, and also in what
we all do, but our interest in one another really shows, which is highly
unusual in most lists we participate in, and what sets us apart and keeps us
together year after year.

On that note, I add my congratulations to Andreas, a very deserving

Vance

Dear Webheads,
I'm doing a research on English teachers' awareness of some specific writing
components and I have designed a survey questionnaire to see if English teachers
are aware of them or not. I'd be grateful if you could spare some time to take
the survey. It includes 14 questions and I'm sure it would not take much time. To
take the survey please do the following:1. go to my website:
http://www.amirimasoud.com2. log in as a guest user: the user name and password
is "guest"3. click on the "survey" on top menu and you will see the survey.
If you encounter any problems taking the survey please inform me off list.I do
appreciate your time and consideration.

Please check the summary at Editor's Pick (left column):
http://3d-immersive-learning-quality.grouply.com/

Kaizen (Japanese for "improvement" or "change for the better") refers to
philosophy or practices that focus upon continuous improvement of processes in
manufacturing, engineering, supporting business processes, and management. It
has been applied in healthcare, government, banking, and many other industries.
When used in the business sense and applied to the workplace, kaizen refers to
activities that continually improve all functions, and involves all employees
from the CEO to the assembly line workers. It also applies to processes, such as
purchasing and logistics, that cross organizational boundaries into the supply
chain. By improving standardized activities and processes, kaizen aims to
eliminate waste (see lean manufacturing).

Kaizen is a daily song, the purpose of which goes beyond simple productivity
improvement. It is also a process that, when done correctly, humanizes the
workplace, eliminates overly hard work ("muri"), and teaches people how to
perform experiments on their work using the scientific method and how to learn
to spot and eliminate waste in business processes. In all, the process suggests
a humanized approach to workers and to increasing productivity: "The idea is to
nurture the company's human resources as much as it is to praise and encourage
participation in kaizen activities."[4] Successful implementation requires "the
participation of workers in the improvement."[5] The word "Kaizen" actually is
from Chinese word "Gai改" and "zhen 正" rather then Japanese. People
at all levels of an organization participate in kaizen, from the CEO down to
janitorial staff, as well as external stakeholders when applicable. The format
for kaizen can be individual, suggestion system, small group, or large group.

I know that when I encountered 'problems' and 'challenges' earlier on , I
consulted Vance among the few people ready to hear me out, and I still
remember what advice he gave me
What I did afterwards was to have his advice printed on a piece of A 4
format and have it laminated and pinned up above my head in my room
It gives me a lot of strength whenever I look at it! :)

we're here in the first place, but to an even GREATER extent the human

Here's a short story about how informal mentoring can take place online- see how
access was provided and what this teacher went through just to talk to someone
whom she thought could help her.

I hope she'd continue on her TPD journey....with the webheads.

Vanya ... super ! génial ! thanks a lot
I tried it out (on XP Dennis) and yes .. the toolbar popped up and it recorded
the sound running on the computer.
I would never have found it because the name "stero mix" seems odd since I'm not
mixing anything - just recording
but once again... THANKS ...you guys are great :-)

Natasha, all,

I love Natasha's anecdote -- and laughed when I read it --
I did the same thing -- with other Webhead's advice / excerpts from posts --
I have a bulletin board full of these quips (from Webheads and other
sources) -- and they do give strength!
Smiles to all,

Fantastic achievement, Andreas! I´m sure in no time you´ll have a lot to
share with us because of your new professional challenges.

You deserve the best, and I´m sure the ones who hired you will never regret
the choice.

Parabéns (congrats in Portuguese)

This is to announce a new series of Sunday 13:00 Professional Development
sessions which will meet from noon GMT at http://tappedin.org and then move on
to the venue for the scheduled event.

I've posted some context for this here:
http://justcurious.posterous.com/21st-century-skills-for-professional-developm

This explains that for this month of September there will be several events
occurring simultaneously. This series is being cast also as a PD series for a
newly rejuvinated TESOL Arabia EdTechSIG where I've taken on the role of online
coordinator, for a TESOL PPOT course on Multiliteracies starting soon, for a
face-to-face course I've just proposed for my workplace, as well as an effort to
breathe more life into what we've been doing each Sunday from noon GMT at Tapped
In.

I'm in process of lining up events for this now. We have a volunteer for Sunday
Sept 5, and I'm scheduled to give a talk on Sept 19. If you'd like to give a
session, anything from 5 minutes to an hour, please let me know, on or offlist,
as you prefer.

Our volunteer for Sunday is Heike Philp who has just posted about her event on
the Multiliteracies Ning list: http://webheads.grouply.com/message/149

More about the relationship between that list and this one momentarily,
meanwhile, visit the grouply link above or view the details of her session
below. All are welcome ...

EduNation - a home for language educators
Date: Sun, Sep 5, 2010
Location: Webheads Headquaters
Time: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM GMT
SLURL Address:
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/EduNation%20III/79/50/22
Cost: free
Contact: Heike Philp aka Gwen Gwasi
Contact Email: heike.philp@...

May we invite the webheads to an in-world meeting,
on Sunday, 5 September 2010 at 1pm GMT (for intl.
times see http://tinyurl.com/37oexdp) to discuss the
upcoming changes at EduNation?

Meeting place: Webheads Headquater on EduNation III

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/EduNation%20III/79/50/22

Allow me to introduce the three new owners of EduNation I and III, who are
taking over from Gavin Dudeney on 1 October 2010 (EduNation III) and 1 November
2010 (EduNation I)...

1) Randall Sadler aka Randall Renoir, assistant professor of the
Illinois University and member of CALICO, Computer Assited Language
Instruction Consortium.

2) Paul East, CEO of Pyramid Group, http://www.thepyramidgroup.biz - provider of
specialist English training (ESP), translations and interpreting in 58
languages, online training, French Academy and commercial partner to TU Dresden
(EU projects).

3) Heike Philp aka Gwen Gwasi, CEO of LANCELOT School GmbH, an accredited
teacher training center for language teachers in the use of virtual classroom
technology and virtual worlds, co-initiator of two EU funded projects, LANCELOT
and AVALON.

Gavin will maintain EduNation II and this way the sandbox, the conference
facilities and other communal facilities will remain.

FYI, the webheads headquarters on EduNation will remain free of charge. This is
an unconditional (Second) life long lease!

Looking forward to meeting you on Sunday, 5 Sept and hoping that you can make
it.
I highly appreciate that this is rather short notice.

Rgds Randall Sadler aka Randall Renoir and Heike Philp aka Gwen Gwasi

Hi again,

I promised an explanation of the relationship between these two lists. They are
in fact distinct, not the same.

http://webheads.grouply.com/ is a migrated version of
http://webheadsinaction.ning.com. The latter site is slated to disappear soon.
If you visit it now it's still there and you can browse it. If I go there and
sign in it fades and invites me to either archive it or remove it from the Ning
network. While I have the chance I'll go ahead and archive it. I experimented
on another Ning of mine. I archived that one but the Ning still appears for
browsing. I think Ning is being generous in allowing ample opportunity (and the
software tools) for getting your data off its site, and no need to comment on
its decision to go over to a paid model and force all its happy Ning owners to
go to the trouble of migrating and archiving their data from what was once a
flourishing community.

Now you might ask, as long as I was migrating, why didn't I name our grouply
migration http://webheadsinaction.grouply.com/. Well, if you go there you can
see that we'd already set one of those up back in 2003 and never used it. As
that one's sitting on the prime URL, I just called the Ning migration
http://webheads.grouply.com/. I can see that this might become confusing one
day.

So, this list and the new grouply have nothing in common. I think if we had a
common one it would be called http://evonline2002_webheads.grouply.com/

Testing the theory, there is indeed a grouply by that name, it redirects to the
YahooGroup, and that's the one you need to post to if you want to post on this
YGroup list.

The Webheads NING, now http://webheads.grouply.com/, is where we organize our
WiAOC Online Convergences. We are due to have another one of those in 2011. If
the community makes it happen, of course. We need to get moving on it soon (I'm
pretty overwhelmed right now, would anyone else like to take charge?)

I hope you have learned as much as I have from this explanation,

Vance

Hi everyone,

Heike was kind enough in preparing for her SL session Sunday to compile what
must be THE definitive list of Webheads and their avatar names in Second Life
and send it to me (in two installments) in email.

With her permission I've made a wiki out of it. I thought the most appropriate
tool for this would be a Google Doc spreadsheet.

http://tinyurl.com/webheadsinsecondlife

I think anyone can write on it. To test it, visit the link and where it has
Your Name aka Avatar Name, cut the avatar name and put it in the second column.

If that succeeds then I've shared it properly. If you are in SL but not listed,
you can of course add your name and avatar name here.

Then THIS will be the definitive list of webheads in SL :-))

Thanks Heike and everyone for multiple collaborations,

Vance
