Hi Gavin and all
Yes, I'm also enjoying the discussion but I can see that there are two different
points of view here - which are probably not going to change:
The doing and the researching
I personally value both highly and I think we need both to prorgres. In
researching I also value action research which is involved with what people are
**really doing. I think the profession might be young and we may know little but
let's make use of what we know and let's be critical so we don't keep jumping on
bandwagons (hope the expression is right here).
Sometimes things depend on peoples' personalities, too. I am, for example,
naturally critical and reflective. I can, therefore, not help stepping back and
reflecting. I don't think I'm alone in that area, however.
So while we are all dancing, flying and admiring Gavin's unicycle, some of us
will be reflecting and evaluating.
Hopefully, together - each in their preferred roles - we'll all help move the
field forward.
Smiles to all
Sophie

>So whilst people are researching and counting the number of utterances, or
the quailty of the utterances or whatever criteria are chosen, I'll be in
there interacting with people, sharing, learning, teaching and - just
occasionally - pulling out the chat scripts to do some 'efficient' language
work with them in another class ;-))
