Description

This Group is devoted to people who like to list and/or climb the mountains of Europe.

The Group is the definitive place to find lists of the hills and mountains of Europe, either published in the Files Section on this Group, or providing hyper links to other websites where they can be found. The normal language of this Group is English, although postings in other European languages are welcome.

Most of the hills and mountains on this Group are selected by their 'prominence' (also called 'drop') classification. This is a way of identifying separate hills and mountains. 'Prominence' or 'drop' can be defined as the difference between the height of a summit and the lowest point on the watershed connecting it with a higher summit.

Some of the lists also feature a height criterion. To learn more about 'prominence' visit http://www.peaklist.org.

Enough of the technicalities! Lists of hills and mountains are just a tool to get you out in the great outdoors to enjoy the challenges of hill-walking and mountaineering.

See also the website at http://sites.google.com/site/europeaklist/.

Re: Switzerland finished
Mark & Rob, I'm not sure what his plans are below 2000m. I suggest you contact him, as he's not a member of this Group. You have his e-mail address, I think?

Thanks Mark, I've uploaded a .xls version now. The Austrian online interface is pretty poor, the Spanish one excellent. Can I second Rob's question? May not
