Upcoming calendar upgrade: Yahoo! Groups calendars are being upgraded to a much improved version. You may not have access to the calendar (for up to 24 hours) when this group is upgraded. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.
Description
This Group is devoted to people who like to list and/or climb the mountains of Europe.
The Group is the definitive place to find lists of the hills and mountains of Europe, either published in the Files Section on this Group, or providing hyper links to other websites where they can be found. The normal language of this Group is English, although postings in other European languages are welcome.
Most of the hills and mountains on this Group are selected by their 'prominence' (also called 'drop') classification. This is a way of identifying separate hills and mountains. 'Prominence' or 'drop' can be defined as the difference between the height of a summit and the lowest point on the watershed connecting it with a higher summit.
Some of the lists also feature a height criterion. To learn more about 'prominence' visit http://www.peaklist.org.
Enough of the technicalities! Lists of hills and mountains are just a tool to get you out in the great outdoors to enjoy the challenges of hill-walking and mountaineering.
See also the website at http://sites.google.com/site/europeaklist/.
[The picture shown here is of the East Face of Mont Blanc, the most prominent mountain in Europe and highest in Western and Central Europe.)

Re: Cretan highpoint
Hi Petter For what it's worth, I read 2448m (horizontal accuracy 3m) on Pachnes and 2448m (horizontal accuracy 3m) on Psiloritis i.e. both exactly the same

Re: Cretan highpoint
Hi, 6 years ago, the elevations of the highest peaks in Crete was too close to call by GPS. Things may have changed, however, see my report at:
